It won't show up in the app

Have you been told your car needs a new module, or just that it might be part of a recall?

I was told the latter when I was booking it in for a service a while ago

The annoying part is that if they do need to change a module they'll keep the car until its done. Apparently they can't store battery modules onsite because of fire risk so they keep the car until the new module arrives and then install it straight away

I'm pretty sure they said it needs a module, and they'll need to keep it a couple of days, and they'll sort a replacement car .

    Hi All

Sister looking at getting a 2nd hand iD4. What should she be looking out for? i.e. at a certain software? What's the warranty on the battery? Other elements such as drive train? What are the battery sizes?

I have a model 3 but have done now reading on the iD4. Any hints or gotchas appreciated from various models over the years.

    Thanks

If she can, I’d spring for a 241 or onwards model. The larger screen, bigger battery and more efficient motor are all worth the extra cost.

Pro Plus is the sweet spot in respect of price to niceties ratio - at least for me.

If she can’t and needs to buy an earlier ID.4, battery sizes are 52kWh and 77kWh. 1st Edition is well specced, Life & Life DX are sparse. At one point, the Life version didn’t even have a reverse camera. General warranty is 3 years or 90K Km’s and battery warranty is 8 years or 160K Km’s. Software isn’t a big deal as it can be updated. Door handles can be problematic with many replaced under warranty. An Enyaq also worth considering as an alternative.

So… this VW deposit contribution of €4k for ID4 - does anyone know how this works? I was told by a VW sales rep that it is only available to current PCP customers and therefore we are not eligible - is that correct? There's no mention of that on the website!

sounds like dodgy salesman, there is nothing like that in the small bit of t&cs in the website. Real limiter is it has to be in stock and registers by end of October. Otherwise it says it’s available on pcp, hp or cash deals and is used only as part of the deposit.

Presumably it comes out of salesmen’s pockets also on commission on overall deal so they try to avoid it.

The VW website is a sh!t show. Spelling mistakes (Desposit (sic) Contribution in at least two places) for weeks now. The prices they quote bear no relation to what the dealers will quote you. Some dealers were taking the "contribution" off the headline price. Others were taking it off the deposit. It feels like they've sold off the 2025 stock and are off somewhere counting the money before they decide what to do for 2026 or they've put some bogus offers up they have no intention of honouring.

Well I dunno about dodgy salesmen but VW is definitely eager to shift product given they've had to shut down Zwickau and Emden for several weeks due to slow demand

The site has always been a disaster and this is a feature not a bug. It's what happens when you buy a car through an intermediary and not direct sales

Anyway, I wouldn't be slow to challenge the sales staff on anything you think they got wrong. Often they seem to get the news slower than the customers so are probably clueless on how the discount is implemented

    https://www.electrive.com/2025/10/06/vw-dealers-get-lower-margins-on-electric-cars/

Almost on cue, looks like VW is ditching the agency model in Germany

It was supposed to be implemented here from next year I think, presumably that won't be happening now

Also, dealers will get a higher margin on ICE cars ensuring they have absolutely no reason to sell another EV. Top marks VW 🙄

They had a deal to sell off remaining stock of ID.4s in Ireland by the end of September, which was successful. They were all sold before the end of the month. They then extended the "deal" to the end of October but with no stock to sell 😀

That's, uh, quite an interesting deal and I'm sure won't annoy potential customers who find them car they want is 4k more expensive than they expected.

We've a 221 ID4 and when I saw this I was thinking it might be time to move to a newer model but not much point if all the stock is sold.

It’s a load of rubbish. The trade in value I was quoted a few weeks back is now 4k lower on an ID4 and 2K lower on an ID3.

Just a sales hook to make you feel better - the price is still the price when trading in anyway.

There's plenty of pre-reg ID4s still on carzone, so someone maybe able to get a good deal before the end of the year.

Looks like the website has been updated since this afternoon. All references to the deposit contribution are gone.

wow, that’s impressive, a big offer that was supposed to run until end of the month disappears as if it never existed (Which it may not have) It was a finance as well as a simple sales offer, so that should be regulated.

has anyone had any suspension work done on their ID4?

Had it in for a drop link (small job) but mechanic noticed leaks from front shocks and perished wishbone bushings.

Quote for parts is north of €1.1k, is it just something i have to suck up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,378 ✭✭✭KCross

The drop links is common enough in the ID range. Havent heard alot about shocks and bushings failing though.

If its not under warranty and you trust the mechanic then I'd say you have to suck it up. €1k does seem a bit steep though… back to the trust bit?

On the new Pro Plus, about 30 seconds after engaging the seat belt it tightens up, is there anyway to stop this?!, I lean forward a little when driving so it feels like someone has their arms around me dragging me back. Any passengers I have do not like this either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭hold my beer

Not sure, but I know you get use to it after a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,319 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Is it just locking after the spring returns the excess belt, or actively pulling tight? I've noticed the lock mechanism can be a bit sensitive and tricky to disengage

If its pulling tight then it sounds like the pre tensioner is engaging, it should only happen if the car is about to crash into something I would have thought

Well out of warranty and I have over 180k km put on it so i suppose its something that needs doing.

Its a safety feature. It pulls the belt tight once you start driving. It just does it once. My old ID.3 didnt do it but the new one does. I think other cars outside VW do it too.

I dont believe it can be disabled, its a safety feature. Not sure exactly why its needed though as it should pre-tension in a crash anyway… maybe its a "to be sure to be sure" type thing.

Thanks for the comprehensive responses folks! Yep, he said it was only for existing PCP customers, but the explanation that makes the most sense was it is only on existing stock, which indeed is all gone. Must admit, I did not see this clause on the website - those who got the September clear out cars got a good deal indeed. But I must admit it all felt a bit 'dodgy', definitely felt like a ruse to get you in door and then trot out the most 'applicable' excuse used to deny it…

Anyway, interesting it's removed from the website. PCP finance is 0.9%, HP 0%. Will be joining the iD4 club in the new year…

I managed to get the deal but they were adamant it was only on existing stock and the dealership I was dealing with only had two. I was effectively a new customer as well as I handed my previous ID4 back to VWFS as I was in negative equity on the PCP. They took it back off me with no penalties. I have started a new PCP contract at 0.9% with the 4k reduction so I am very happy with the deal.
