I've everything prepared for tomorrow's storm , I'm even more so since storm Eowyn as power around us went for 10 days, now that's the worst case scenario using Eowyn as an example, I've candles, power banks, batteries, camping stove , got gas canisters yesterday, even if I don't have to use any at least I'm Winter storm ready

I'm not surprised. Been keeping an eye on this location and time due to having a 7am flight. Yr showing crazy wind speeds and one of meteorites charts earlier today had purple there. Anyone know Ryanair/Dublin airports tendencies for flight cancellations etc during weather alerts n whatnot? Sorry to be one of those ppl, avid lurker on here the last number of years

If only that poster had followed my advice to self(never followed) to never tell strangers (or anyone really) what the weather is going to do.

Better to just listen and button the lip.

Similarly with giving road directions ,although in this case it is(should be) harder to say you just don't know.

I've been in Tralee all day today and rain was very light. Definitely not an orange level where I was.

Planes fly all the time in yellow warnings.

Airlines have their wind limits and thats their deciding factor

Knock airport TAF forecasting gusts up to 60 knots in the early afternoon. Check before travel if going from Knock. Belmullet ,Mace head etc should see some very high gusts tomorrow.

How are we not in an orange warning here in Roscommon. Surely warranted no?

It was miserable around midday here in cork city. Rain bouncing off car roofs.

Damp evening in Dublin that's all.

Leitrim only is because we have 2 miles of coastline, but yes I'm sure Roscommon will be added into orange possibly Cavan too

Having been in mayo Galway before 9 am and Dublin since before noon today . There is no comparison to the amount of rain that unfolded today in the west . It Should have been orange in the morning . Mayo Galway border bad . Galway very bad . Dublin , actually a nice day today . Only now it’s starting to rain a tad.

Big call from Met Eireann not to go red for some areas. I can think of 10 or 15 schools in extremities of Mayo and Donegal that will be sending kids home on busses in winds of 80km gusting to 130+. The peak of the winds coincide with commuting time for kids especially.

This is where their bizarre county-wide system fails - most people in Mayo will not see red conditions but a few thousand will and they'll be out in the height of it too.

Wind values have increased for all models on the last runs, windguru.cz is a useful way to check the numerical output.

Strange one. A kink in the isobars moving through? Or front?

I agree but also I’m puzzled as to why the marine red wasn’t highlighted on the Six One weather there, surely they need to highlight the dangers of the coast tomorrow. Those in coastal extremities should close their schools or even take a half day tomorrow based on the marine red, that would be a sensible approach. Children as young as five out in that weather?! Crazy. I can also think of a few that will duly show up at the prom and other coastal locations tomorrow and attempt to do a ‘storm swim’ putting emergency services at risk if there’s an issue thinking it’s ‘just’ an orange warning.
There was a bit of panic buying today in Galway in the supermarkets, think everyone has PTSD after Storm Ewoyn. The rain is biblical again out, serious issues will come with a further yellow rain warning tomorrow. No flood warnings given…

First time ever I find myself hoping this isn't a wild wind event. It's only 2 weeks since I finally found someone to fix my roof tiles after Eowyn and even after waiting that long I was still seriously ripped off.

Definitely not ready for more of what Ewoyn was packing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,256 ✭✭✭Storm 10

Very poor forecast from ME about not how serious this storm is definitely should be a red warning especially in the areas of the Marine red like the Aran Islands are in the Red zone and the Red extends right into Galway Bay to the City , I can never understand their logic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,899 ✭✭✭irishgeo

if they call Red you'll have idiots saying it's not windy in my back garden so not a red.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 muck.savage

Would using GAA parishes be a better system?? In no way perfect, but in mayo for example parishes on the coast could be red while inland parishes could be orange for major wind events..

Always think it's daft that Charlestown will be red with Achill and Belmullet

It is not windy in my back garden so?? XD Not yellow at all ;)

Am I glad I booked in the roofer to check over and replace some tiles and repair guttering at the end of August.
We’ve also been checking trees last week, cutting overhanging branches that were broken or damaged thinking we were getting prepared for winter storms to hit us later, certainly not expecting one this soon in October!

Worst now of course with trees in full leaf.
