Amateur weather stations out near Valencia are all in the 40s of millimeters. Theres one truly unhinged one saying 72mm since midnight, and thats at midday!

The air is dead here in South Dublin. Not a lick of wind and Humidity at 87%, you'd know there is something extra-tropical coming.

All the models pointing towards the storm bottoming out at around 955 - 950 hpa which 10 hpa less than yesterday's model runs. That's an indicator of a more southerly track and will bring more widespread strong winds. I'm still interested to see what shape the center of the low will look like, a small core of intense winds at sea with a less strong outer band or a more elongated feature doing the opposite.

So a bit of rain today, already easing in the West and barely a gale tomorrow away from the far Northwest. Just about sums it up lol. Our grandparents would be roaring at us

They wouldn't be if they were in the locations that are going to be hammered tomorrow

Could we see warnings upgraded for Clare/Galway going on that?

You guys are more battle hardened than us in the east and have seen this type of event many times. It's probably that it's just more the time of year with trees in full leaf etc making travel more difficult. Keep up to date with Met eireann as warnings may change by this evening.

Well, they might be roaring, but we wouldn't be able to hear them above the noise of the wind!

Sheets of heavy rain in Galway now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,254 ✭✭✭adocholiday

The rain is just reaching South Wicklow now, it had been forecast to rain from around 9am so at least the morning stayed dry, got my lunchtime walk in too. Time to hibernate now until Saturday evening!

In CenterParcs until tomorrow. Rain was biblical this morning. Usually hang around the pool on the last day but trying to figure out the best travelling time for avoiding fallen trees etc.

It's still bone dry in Dublin City centre.

"Only" 7.6mm of rain here in my location in tipp so far,has been only raining for about 2 hours and there is another bit of a clearance at the moment. Certainly not bad here at all

ECM 06Z is stronger again bringing the high winds 90 to 110km/h far inland which is strong for the time of year. Models have been upgrading today, maybe more counties going into Orange warning level.

Models showing very close now to red warning level in the W, NW.

Firmly believe that the West should have had a orange warning its lashing in Galway since 6.30 am when we had thunder and lightning roads around the City are flooded with standing water right now the rain is torrential.

I would say borderline Red. It is non-stop cascading from above

The issue is that Cork is much too large to be treated as a single county for ME purposes. It could be flooded in Bantry/Skibbereen/Castletownbere and bone dry in Youghal and Middleton. ME really should consider defining West Cork and East Cork as two distinct areas for warnings. (When Midleton was badly flooded last year, we had virtually no rain at all in the Mizen/Beara area.)

Bone dry up to now in Arklow here on the east coast

    Breezy but not very

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,633 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

They have from memory used west cork before in their warnings as opposed to just Cork.

Torrential rain in Galway along with early morning thunder, lots of surface flooding and underground carparks having some water flow issues, surprised this just constitutes a yellow warning re rain.

Big upgrade from the UKMO Hi Res model, like the others showing far reaching very strong winds inland, going through relatively quickly in a few hours. Again showing upgrades possible in the warnings.

Can see this getting even stronger the way the models have been continously upgrading.

I seem to have dodged the rain so far (not a complaint 😀) just 4.4mm, nearest official Gurteen is around the same.

    …should I say the words…😁

Is there a possibility of a Red warning for the West tomorrow given that we have a Red Coast warning trying to figure out work tomorrow.

Cork should have a split to:

Cork City & Harbour Area, West Cork, East Cork and North & Inland Cork as colour coded alert areas.

Cork City is wet and blustery at the moment - nothing too dramatic, but it’s had the odd noticeable gust.
