I have no dog in this fight but I've seen the reasons Goldbridge has given for a few things said about him. Could be true, could be false. I'm not overly fussed either way.

There are however pictures of him as a kid in Utd kits that he has shared online - now this could be for any number of reasons but they are there.

He also did say before that he went to Forrest games as a kid because his Step Dad brought him. It was where he lived at the time I believe. That's not an unreasonable explanation.

What I will say though is he is nothing more than a small part of the online presence that has appeared over the last 15 years or so. They offer fans engagement that they don't get elsewhere. There's a place for it 100%.

If Goldbridge didn't exist or faded away tomorrow he would just be replaced by someone else because if we like it or not there is appetite out there for more content around football and the clubs than the clubs themselves could ever generate.

This forum is a form of that.

Red Cafe is a form of that.

Talk Sport is a form of that.

R/RedDevils is a form of that.

There's probably loads of other places I'm not aware of.

Fair points. He is only young lad, and everyone makes mistakes, and all the time, no matter how young or mature.

Still though this is a business where he was getting thousands a week and few million or so a year.

Make a mistake fine, make 5 or 6, right slap on wrist.. but he kept going. Trust me I wanted him stay and change his ways.

But they were only getting worse. At end of day he got lot chances and still kept baiting away.

I don't wish him bad luck but I am 100% happy United did right thing and left him go.

21 is still young even at 24-25 you're still young really and I do feel sorry for footballers at times with media coverage they get.

I go back to normal job. A good employer will give you chances but if you don't take them you can't expect them to hang on.

Remember it was United paying his wages every week. If you're not happy move on and give it to somebody who will be dam happy get it and work hard to get better.

Heard a stat this morning that in the last 7 games Mazraoui has been selected at right wing back we've won 5 beating Chelsea, Villa and Athletic Club (twice) and Leicester. Make of that what you will the next time hes selected at RWB

He played very well on Saturday for someone coming back from injury. He also crossed both balls into the box from which the goals came.

Its almost like he adds some balance to the team and his selection at RWB isn't an utter disaster that should see the manager sacked

The amount of attacks that break down because he isn't offering a wide threat out there is huge. Good in slow build up, terrible in quick transitional play.

He plays well as an attacking fullback. He is not a good wingback imo. Too defensively set. Isn't quick enough to get into the final third and stretch the opposition or create overloads.

I like Mazraoui's work-rate and attitude. But he's not a natural fit at WB imo.

He had a good game Saturday - but worth remembering with Neto being withdrawn so early, and the opposition down to 10, that gave him much more freedom on his flank.

I did like his crossing the last day. I think he could give Dorgu some lessons, because the quality of crosses from the left side is just abysmal!

Imagine we played 4 at the back like a normal team. Maz and dorgu would do a good job in their more natural positions and we'd have plenty of options at cb. And then Bruno playing midfield wouldn't be such a **** show and the rest of the team might actually click. Ah well 😟

Seen some reports that Balebas drop in performances is down to his head been turned by the Interest from utd! If true, not a good sign for his capability to handle the pressure of playing for utd! Hopefully the 'football people' in the club have really done their work on him if they're gonna go for him in January, which has also been mentioned!

We were quite often in a back 4 shape v Chelsea with Maz occupying a traditional rb role, and Shaw more toward a lb role with Dorgu high on the press almost in a lw role.

Shame people don't actually watch games anymore you know.

Ah you cant be expecting people to use their eyes. The rage merchants and Paul Merson said 3 at the back doesn't work and these foreign guys have no clue what they are at

Yeah really? So what's your point? I watched the game like I've watched all the other games. I don't give 2 shites if you think that they played 4 at the back for a few minutes against Chelsea because it was a back 3 with 2 wing backs that were on the pitch and they were playing the managers clearly stated on numerous occasions preferred formation. My post was in relation to playing a traditional back 4 as our preferred formation as that is what maz and dorgu would be best suited to. But you know all that

3 at the back doesn't work and that's why nobody uses it

conte used it and it took him about 3 days to implement. went on to win the league with it.

Also Bayer Leverkusen went a full BL season unbeaten and won multiple trophies playing 3 at the back 2 seasons ago.

Inter have won Serie A and 2 CL finals playing it.

    Brazil 2002.

Juve 2014 broke 100 points playing it.

Tuchel won the CL at Chelsea with it.

It CAN absolutely work. If you have the right players.

There are too many things that have to go right for it to be practical. You only have to look at our huge squad since amorin took over and how few are suited to it. Most formations allow plenty of flexibility with players moving around without causing too much hassle. It's just giving the rest of the teams an advantage before the ball is even kicked.

IT gives you extra players in the middle, but I always thought that system hinged on having quality wingbacks.

Only Dorgu is a natural wingback and he’s pretty raw. We opted not to sign any others in the summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Caustic

But if you ignore all the teams that use it and all the times it has worked, it isn't used and doesn't work

When it comes to condescending, obnoxious, spoofing tossers, there are few more unlikeable than Dermot Gallagher on ref-watch.

But we don't have the right players?

The lads can talk about misery porn all they want, United still just don't have the players for it.

What are they short, 2 WBs, 2 midfielders, a CB, then the goalkeeper and striker still unproven? 7 players short?

Why not stabilise and build towards it, instead of trying to force it regardless of fit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,779 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

It does for Palace but I absolutely hate it unless for defensive purposes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,342 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

The statement wasn't if it's the right formation for Utd.

It was that nobody uses it because it doesn't work. So I just have examples that I could think of from the top of my head where it did work.

It being right for Utd right now is a whole other story

    Here's what I know

I know that you have a bit of an emotional response reaction thing going by your post and I know you either don't actually watch the games, or you don't have the comprehension to know what your watching when you do watch games. Either way 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pep played 541 v Arsenal at the weekend. Xabi Alonso broke the German league with 3 at the back, Tuchel, Conte, all managers have an idea of how the game should be played. Base formation obsession is a little dated tbh.

A lot (most?) top teams, build in a 325 shape in possession. Must be mind boggling

Conte had players very comfortable in the WB role like Alonso and Azpilicueta. He also had a powerhouse central midfield in Kante plus Matic (when he was still very good). Lots of attacking on the flanks and loads of physicality and energy in the CM.

It was a good fit for that squad.

And the front 3 including Hazard at his world class best and Diego Costa weren't half bad either. United could only dream of having that attack.

There's just no comparison to the player profile at Utd imo.

Similar with Tuchel, he inherited a Chelsea with lots of legs and energy in CM. And an abundance of players very good at WB like Reece James, Alonso, Chilwell.

I know the Italian teams like 3 centre backs but it's a different league, played at a different pace. In the PL, you need the players to fit….we basically have Dorgu as the only real WB in the squad and he really struggles to even cross the ball

It's the exact same thing that happened over at Liverpool. The longer their barren spell went on, the more irrational the fans became and faster they became to hate their own players and at times, managers.

Just look at the idiotic opinions on Bruno we see weekly if not daily. Same happened with Gerrard. The best player on the team by far is the problem. You can't get more irrational than that.

Amad and Garnacho are still obviously friends, and anyone who has a problem with that is obviously emotionally unstable.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...
