Fair management team. Best of luck to them.

100% agree on club venues for the quarter finals. These games are lost in the Park but they're brilliant in club venues. I think Thomastown Ballyhale played at this stage in Callan last year and it was a cracker. Also, considering the state of the pitch the last few years, it's lunacy to think it can take the amount of games planned for it over the next 6 weeks.

Crazy having all the quarters in the Park, far better in club venues. Kilkenny Co Board covering themselves in glory yet again.

Credit where credit is due though, that's a serious U20 management team that's been appointed. Badly needed.

That is very impressive management team, very good minds and also Sean Kelly is top class coach and he will add something. Interesting to see what minor set up will be.

Why is the Minor replay between James Stephens and Erins Own in Dunmore and not Comer? Surely Erins Own are entitled to home advantage as the draw was in the Kells Road

Great to have this management in place, hopefully a stepping stone for years to come for Kilkenny to move forward with. Best of luck to all and i imagine everyone is happy with the management. Will reduce the negativity about underage management on this which is great also.

You'd have to imagine that the players would be buzzing to get on the panel and work with that backroom team, delighted the CB have finally shown a bit of ambition with the appointment and a lot to look forward to with this group over the next couple of years! From having a quick look at this years team there around 5 starters underage next year and 2/3 subs?

Someone here mentioned last week about Paul buggys shotstopping being a loss to tullaroan. Thought Holland was poor for the bridge second goal.

Not much sympathy for him, his behaviour im the aftermath of the ballycallan match was out of order and could have caused a mass brawl.

I think the gbc sub that won the penalty was roaring in his face first when the penalty was won maybe I might be wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 760 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

That could be true too. It just looked bad his reaction.

Presumably because of the lights. Given the evening that's in it, that was the right call!

2 red cards for Castlecomer tonight in a 13 point loss for them. One of them a straight red for a pretty awful foul. If they focused on just playing hurling they would have been closer to the Village.

Very good fair in the dump for 40 mins,,,,, not nice to see kids getting red cards but totally warranted,, previous week trying to get a chap sent off for village, simulating injury and management bawling at referee. I must say comer have some lovely young hurlers but having those Buggys involved and there unsportsmanlike behaviour leaves a sour taste. The language out of the Kia towards an official was disgusting, unwarranted,,and reflects poorly on comer.
village have some cracking hurlers and we will be up against it in next round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Comer missed their chance the 1st day.

It'll be a Village and Boro final again you'd think. OLG might put it up to Boro for a while but probably not good enough this year. Village should see off Danesfort fairly comfortably in the other semi.

Wonder was Henry at the game this evening. Be a good few U18's there that might feature next year for 20's.

Having 4/5 ex intercounty players as "waterboys" on the pitch more than some of the players and lads cramping up to slow the game down last week and two number 15's on the team sheet ain't great either BUT well done to the Village some fantastic players and scores tonight and the best of luck to them going forward 👏

Best of luck to Henry and the team. Very good appointment. Would be nice to see simialr appointment at minor.

Comer should have a strong u21 team this year with some of those County minors plus the likes of Michael and Bobby brennan. Not sure if they are A or B.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭Village87

Were they A or B last year u21. They seem to be good minor last 3/4 years

On the intermediate games for the weekend

James Stephens v Blacks and Whites

You can never saw never, but unfortunately for Blacks and Whites they’re probably in for a long day at the office. Injuries and weather may help their cause, but The Village should put up a big score here

    Dunnamaggin v Tullogher

I fancy Dunnamaggin here. I think they’ve been motoring well and have the players to take on Tullogher physically, where Tullogher usually dominate. If Wally was available I’d go with Tullogher. Dunnamaggin by 2.

    Young Irelands v St. Lachtains

Tough decision but I’m going to go with YI here. They’re not as impressive as last year without Sean Carey, but I think they have enough quality in their side with the Langtons, Careys and Farrell etc, to win. Still not entirely convinced by Freshford but if they bring the fire of last week they stand every chance. YI by 4

    Danesfort v Mooncoin

Again, another tough decision but I fancy Mooncoin. Danesfort are a quality team, but Mooncoin being so impressive last week has swayed this for me. Mooncoin have a more experienced team which I think is a factor. Mooncoin by a score

Interesting Intermediate Quarters with 2 games very hard to call. Village win easy to predict and I doubt Gowran will be caught by Freshford again. Other 2 games could go either way.

Dunnamaggin have Andy Hickey back at a great time and they have a serious chance but I think Tullogher might just have enough, especially with the weather forecast meaning their physicality and size will be an advantage.
Mooncoin and Danesfort the same, really hard to call. If Paul Henebry is back I'd just about say Mooncoin but 2 quality sides and a 50/50 game.

A mention for Junior where Windgap have been poor so far this year and lot of trouble in the camp apparently, so the Ballyragget lads might fancy themselves to cause a shock in that rearranged game.

OLG Juniors might be flying under the radar a bit with the main focus being in the Premier Junior side of things. They might be having one of those years where they fancy themselves to get a team back at intermediate. Them and Thomastown likely to contest the Section B Junior Final.

I feel gowran are a bit overrated. They have 2 outstanding hurlers, mikey Carey and paddy Langton, but a lot who are the one standard. They have about 20 lads with not much difference between them.

Danesfort forwards look underpowered without Richie hogan and Ben whitty ( not sure is he injured), although they have great backs. Mooncoin more balanced team though.

Dunnamaggin very impressive lately. Lot of good hurlers and few subs with impact. Loss of wally might come back to bite tullogher.

If there's trouble in the windgap camp it's hardly anything to do with the powers is it?!! 2 of them apparently sent off against conahy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Yeh I'm not saying Gowran are fantastic but Freshford have put in a couple of very poor performances and if both hurl to their ability you'd fancy Gowran there. Certainly not a foregone conclusion like the Village/B&W game though.

Yeh your guess there re the Windgap trouble is on the money. Lot of natives getting restless by all accounts. Few recent unsavoury incidents with refs involving a very closely related spectator as well, including pitch incursions both during and after games, one a Camogie match.

Yeah couldn't have much confidence in freshford after some heavy defeats and gowran will be set for them after the league defeat.

That doesn't sound good re windgap. Not great for morale when everyone not pulling in the one direction. A lot of the teams they were beating well other years seem to have caught up and maybe passed them out.

Do Windgap have former KK coach Mick Dempsey involved?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,210 ✭✭✭newhouse87

Is there anything in windgap? Passed through the other day and all i saw was tirlan. Is there a village a such?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 218 ✭✭Sir Chaz

I believe they did earlier on anyway, him and Mickey Walsh were there at the start of the year, and Walsh is named on the management team on programmes so still involved. Don't know if Dempsey is still there.

Todays intermediate games moved out of the Park because of the weather in case people haven't spotted it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

But disappointing to have both games at opposite ends of the county, but I understand the logic.

YI v SL in Comer and Dunnamaggin v Tullogher in Vegas now.

Games for tomorrow still fixed for the Park, wonder if that’ll change tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 78 ✭✭WibblyWobblyWonderman

Windgap probably missed their chance a couple of years with the unexpected loss to B&W’s. Couple of nearly years which can upset teams, especially with smaller numbers where chances are hard to come by. They still have some excellent young hurlers and are a contender for Junior, but they are not the standout team they have been. I think they’re chasing the pack this year rather than leading it

Bit of an upset seeing Callan getting beaten at u16 by Dicksboro, think Callan hadn't lost a game all year and had been playing well by all accounts so bit of a surprise.

    Boro vs Village final now
