My house is at 15°C downstairs and 14 upstairs

Cooking raises that to 17/18C depending on whether the dishwasher is on also

NE facing so no solar gain and huge gaps in windows seals/frames and front door

Still holding out on putting the heating on for a few weeks more. Plenty of clothes to be putting on and hate the bedroom being any way warm but it'll be a long winter if we've no September warmth this year

Great night skies this time of year though, swings and roundabouts

136mm in Finner so far. Maybe theyl beat that target. Theyl be at 150mm plus after tonight so just normal rain in the rest and 200mm. Sligo will end at 160mm or 170mm

USA here. Autumn in the town I work in brings in mass amounts of tourists for the train rides, Lehigh Gorge fall foliage , and old world small town charm with an Irish heritage (‘ terrorists’ as we locals call them). No parking, mass crowds, garbage everywhere and rude city folk.

It seems next week might bring an end to the wet finally. So maybe the August monsoon came 4 weeks late this year and itl back to dryish pleasant stuff next week. Depends on a number of variables still though but tentative signs

Its pretty drookit in Oranmore at the moment, such shine from the wet.

sunny spells after a very wet night and feeling warmer than Monday/Tuesday which wouldn't be hard.

In this country you have people going around half naked in March if we get a few rays of sun. Could call them thickos too but that's a bit extreme. In a country where seasons aren't very clear and temps don't vary hugely, each to his own regarding dress I would say.

A respite from the deluges this morning in Tralee.

Yeah not a bad morning in Dublin, could we possibly get through the day without any rain? Would I be right in thinking that it has rained every day since the start of September?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 17,909 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

We may have had one dry day before I left on the 6th. I think it rained here at least once every day while I was away and rained Monday and yesterday since I got back. Today is technically not a fully dry day since it rained during the night and cleared this morning.

Don't know how much rain fell last night but it seemed like a good bit the garden is a bit squelchy this morning, good thing I got the grass cut yesterday as it could be a week or more before I get a chance to cut it again.

Quite windy on the Kerry coast, at least F6 touching F7 I'd say but nice sunshine.

Nice mid September day in Laois. Yesterday wasn't bad either. Lucky enough with the Ploughing so far.

Not a bad day out west. Dry and mild at least. Here's hoping for high pressure next week.

Dublin Airport finally hit 20º today. Relatively late in the month for it to be the first 20º of the month.

It would have been strange had 20º not been reached after such a mild summer.

When was the last time 20º wasn't reached in Dublin in September I wonder?

Thought a thread might be worthy at this stage given the big rainfall charts coming out especially over the last 24hrs. Still a lot of uncertainty on track and position of where will get the most rainfall but the charts have been showing yellow and orange level rainfall levels over Sat into Sun.

Including two posts from the up to 120hrs charts thread to kick it off, also a possibility of some windy conditions, might even be possible to get some strong winds in parts especially some coastal areas .

Even at this late stage huge uncertainty about the weather over the weekend especially Saturday. Models have been changing track by the run but they were mostly all showing potential for some significant falls of rain over a relatively short time and had been showing the chance of strong winds running down along the coasts from a Northerly direction.

Most notably ECM 12Z showing it to be much windier on the latest run in parts overland and very windy in parts along the coasts but nothing certain as yet to where will get the strong winds or most rainfall as all depends how the LP evolves in such a complex set up, sandwiched between two arms of the the Jet moving in opposite directions .

Just leading with the ECM as I think it might have a better handle on it but would expect a change in the look of the charts over the coming days one way or the other.

UKMO similar winds but rainfall mostly in the E.

GFS quite windy, more so in the Eastern half of the country and extremely wet in the East as the chart shows below.

ICON not as windy and very wet in the SE.

Still evolving , ICON big shift and taking on more of the look of the GFS for highest rainfall totals, windy in the NE for a time on this one. Could be seeing some big rainfall totals. Weather forecast after the news mentioned uncertainty but highlighted the E and S getting the highest rain perhaps. Far from resolved yet.

GFS 18Z just rolling out and showing some huge amount of rain in 24hrs and keeps the totals totting up into Sunday.

Windy also but again would expect some change to the charts but has the hallmarks of some very high rainfall totals.

Notable mid level temperature gradient. That is a lot of warm moisture laden air meeting colder airmass.

Interesting forecast here also. Hard to call the track of this yet but it does appear it could form up quite quickly?

From my purely amateur records in N Tipp the last time was 2015…it will probably hit 20 today to spite me 😁

    Also I noticed in 2018 I had a frost -0.2 on the 29th

Models all over the place but the SE features in most runs, ICON complete shift.

At least it did hit 20C, 2015 didn't even have a max above 17.3C.

2017 was the last one that failed with a max of 18.9C. 2022 was close though with one day of 20.1C.
