Sorry I’ve looked back on thread but can’t see it - does anyone have a link to BWG offer?

I’m electric only and currently with Bord Gáis so looking to take them up on their offer of free cancellation.

While I’m asking questions- what does BWG stand for?

Sorry, may be a stupid question but the end date of the BWG deal says 30/09/2026 so if signed up on in Sept 2025, you're guaranteed that price until 30/09/2026?

Also, with Energypal and Kilowatt different plans are showing but do these not include the price increases in October? Tricky time to be switching!

It's a fixed price offer so will not go up or down depending on changes to wholesale energy prices.

I have a family member who is thinking of switching to the BWG plan but they have a smart meter that isn't activated. Do Flogas insist on putting them on a smart plan in that situation?

Yuno! any reviews on them? They are coming up cheapest for me. They are not offering a discount though and with prices going up. That's not a good thing.

SSE are my 2nd. Customer service is so bad I could never use them again.

Which overall is the best technology wise in terms or visibility over usage and apps etc?

    Currently with Energia.

Still think it's best fixing, any reduction in the next 12 months if there is one, will be negible

the bwg staff deal is for standard or smart so it will be whichever plan then select on sign up, there should be no forced activation of a smart meter if they select standard plan

    so looking for options

    Option A Bord Gais

    Option B SSE

    whats your thoughts?

    gracias!

Thanks for that. Did they increase their prices recently?

I had a quick look at their website and I'm wondering if the prices shown are the figures including the increase?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,284 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

there was mention of a price increase but I didn’t pay much attention when it didn’t impact me

I am in the same boat. I am gonna wait until the 14 days cooling period to be over, then use the BG's generous clause to allow people to break out of contract for free due to the price increase (See the price increase email). Then I'll move to EI. You can do the same too.

My contract with Energia ends on 8th October - good timing I suppose. I think I'll go with the Flogas fixed price until Sept 26. Is there any indication this offer might close before I'm due to switch? Or am I safe to hold off for a few weeks? Last year's switch took 8 days to come into effect though - should I complete the online form a bit earlier?

the deal with flogas and bwg is for a certain quota of people rather than a timeframe, if you instigate a switch before your out if contract there’s a risk of paying €50 penalty, if it was me I would wait until the 9th of October

OK thanks for that info on the quota - I'd be worried the quota will be quickly filled with so many looking to switch now though. But don't want to be down €50 for the sake of a few days.

Interesting to note the fixed Flogas rate seems to be better than my Energia rate for the past year - I should have paid the break fee and switched to get the full 18 months if I'd known about it.

from my understanding the quota is huge and bwg are not even pushing it with their staff and it’s like a state secret trying to even get info about it from management

The BWG seems to be the best option for me. When switching over do Flogas activate your smart meter or leave it on 24 hr tarif

Well just for context, I am currently in contract with Energia, only renewed in July, I moved to EI on friday afternoon, and Ive already had the welcome email with EI and my €20 credit is showing in my account already, email came in last night. Im not sure if I am actually gone from Energia as of yet, but be careful if you start the process a few days early.

Yes, I will need to be careful to avoid the break fee. Last year I switched on 30th September and received immediate emails and an online account with a Tariff Letter. But the billing didn't actually switch until October 8th.

Anyway, out of interest I've uploaded my usage data file to that DCU analysis tool. I have used 2130kW in the past year, 1250 Day, 559 Night, and 321 Peak. This would work out at an annual bill if €812 with Flogas fixed.

The tool says the best rate for me is Energia Smart Data 31% Discount annual €726, but I don't know if that takes the upcoming increase into account and I'm very hesitant to activate the smart meter anyway. The second best plan listed is Electric Ireland Standard Meter Energy Saver 26% Discount at €731, but of course that may increase from Spring. It doesn't include welcome credit or cashback in calculations either.

Energypal.ie has updated its data to reflect the recent energia price increases. If you upload your ESBN data file to energypal you will get accurate prices. They have not yet updated BGE & Pinigery prices.

So as previously mentioned recently signed up with BGE Dualfuel on 22nd of August, I take it I can walk away from both sides of the contract for electricity and gas with that email stating "you have the right to terminate your contract within 30 days"

Juat not sure about the changing once every 20 days with the Electricity network and when that starts from although i did get a letter from them a few weeks ago about the switch so maybe from then .

so it seems I've been out of bwg contract since March April, paying over the odds since then, is there a way to get back in to the bwg or better off swapping out? Am now in arrears so that may change things. It was very tricky to log in and try and see what rate I was on .

You should be able to sign up to the BWG deal even if you're already with FloGas.

I think if you are >€200 in arrears or 60 days since the due date, a flag is added to your switch. Its up to the supplier you're switching to if they accept it. My understanding is that they just don't.

So after doing my sums on energypal I split my gas and electricity. EI for electricity and Flogas for gas. By my calculations, even if EI increase prices in the Spring it'll still be marginally the best option when the €100 sign up bonus is taken into account.

I ignored Yuno as their billing system is nonsense.

Is a rural standing charge of €422 on the bwg plan high?

Very , why i went with EI plan instead. For smart electricity rates similar to bwg standing charge 100 less.
