Agreed. Food in Copper Grove is outstanding.

Definitely worth a visit. Always busy too which says a lot.

The new indian where Burnt used to be in town is supposed to be lovely - Mantra

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 774 ✭✭✭Debub

yeah - its like Indian fine dining, same team as behind Ritu in Carrigaline

Isn't Ritu's sister restaurant Corriander in Douglas, Ballincollig? So is Mantra similar?

Not keen on their food (Corriander), never tried Ritu.

Anyone been to Brennan's wine bar recently ? Thinking of it's a good option tomorrow, Saturday evening

Went a couple of months ago and we all liked it. Got quite a few dishes

Think you got more on a sharing plate than we did when we went to l'attidtude 51 a couple of weeks ago

Went to the little cafe at the entrance to the Chinese supermarket down Dalton's Avenue, Cornmarket Street.

Lots of various pan Asian snacks and good coffee. Very tasty and reasonable.

Had a family gathering in Man Friday's last night. To be honest, my expectations were low. I expected it to be old fashioned (in a bad way), tired and overpriced. It was really good. It's still an easy, not very challenging menu but it has some really nice flairs and they, obviously have a very good chef. Staff were extremely professional and nice. Gin cured salmon starter with orange a fennel salad was simple and spectacular. I also had perfectly cooked rump of lamb. Wine was really good quality for the price, I thought. A mid priced albarino and a Portuguese red were crowd pleasers. There's still lots of familiar things for people - scampi, steaks, black sole, meringue dessert, deep fried brie etc but the menu isn't stuck in 1989 as I think it was for some time.

I really couldn't fault it and the price seemed very fair for the quality we got. A really pleasant surprise.

We were down in cork for a few days with two very young kids so with a buggy in tow we were kinda limited as to where we dined. Won’t go through all the stops but in Cobh we went for lunch in Ellen’s Kitchen, basic enough food , I had eggs Benny and herself has chorizo and chickpea hash. Food was lovely and decent quantity.

We were staying in Rochestown Park so we ate there the first night. Less said about the food the better. Massive portions but plain and flavourless. Neither of us finished ours which is rare. I had seafood tagliatelle and Mrs B had red Thai curry. That was in Suttons bar and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel either. Dated rooms and uninterested staff.

The next day we went out to inchydoney beach where the kids had a great day. Ate in the hotel. She had monkfish and prawn scampi and I had a chicken bacon and cheese ciabatta with sweet potato fries. Food really good here and would visit again for beach and lunch.

That night, we went to the Elm Tree, been here many times before and keep going back. We shared a plate of wings for starters and for main I had fillet of salmon and Mrs B had chicken supreme. I may not be familiar with fine dining but this was some of the best food I’ve had. Everything cooked to perfection and decent quantity, couldn’t manage dessert. Service was v slow even at 5:30 but it was worth the wait. Will always come back when visiting cork. Salmon photo was taken after I’d started eating so presentation was a lot better than it looks

Boxt is great coffee place and dog friendly. Seating is limited though

looking for something more substantial food than a coffee place

    Where is Boxt btw ?

so ended up at Sano Pizza - dog allowed indoors, server got him a bowl of water straight away - super and the pizza’s were pretty good too

This was a first for us that the dog was allowed inside - we have a smallie so is quite invisible and is no shed and slept mostly through the meal so don’t think anyone even noticed him - but even for a pizza without a dog - Sano is definitely one a good place

If you are ever in Cobh again, Seasalt is a lovely cafe/deli worth checking out.

You probably know, but in the city centre, on Douglas Street is Fionnbarra, a busy bar, but very dog friendly and fairly good pizza. 👍️

Is good for the soul dog friendly? Always looking for somewhere where I can bring the dog.

Lemon leaf in Kinsale is about the only restaurant for breakfast/lunches to accept dogs inside, rather than being outside on a patio.

anyone tried La Cantina in the marina market? have tried the venezuelan food truck in dublin (pacheco) and loved it so would be interested if anyone has an opinion on this one?

We went to Chestnut in Ballydehob at the weekend. Had the tasting menu. It was very nice. Did feel that the focus on local meant that there was a "local" taste and the flavours were slightly muted. Service was excellent and the quality was extremely good.

The wee cone with the caviar was amazing and the effort into cutting and dressing the blueberries was incredible.

Had a hamburger (medium) last week. It's as good as ever. Prices have gone up but a hamburger is still <€10. I wish they had some sort of chilli sauce on the tables, though.

Their simplicity puts people off - it's what I love about Bunsen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭what the hell!

It’s the simplicity that I love about it. You can actually taste the burger. If you go to Son of A Bun all you’re getting is a load of toppings.

Different strokes. I'm firmly in the simplicity camp but some people find that boring and they love the wild and sloppy toppings. My wild side likes pickled chillies or chilli sauce added 🤘🏻😜
