who knows - but if this is the attitude of a manager in the restaurant kitchen, you can imagine what goes on in there.. staff picking at dishes being prepared for customers - i dread to think…

I studied and worked in the food indo for years before my current profession - and such ethics in a restaurant kitchen are totally unacceptable - a properly run establishment would not tolerate that

I don't think anyone here would argue that servers should be eating while on duty. That's not what I or anyone else was querying. No one is defending the establishment.

Still, we're none the wiser as to what he was actually eating and why it was "nauseating". 🤷 I genuinely don't understand how someone eating some food could spark such a visceral reaction. It's up there with the poster who was equally horrified by a diner wearing flip flops in a restaurant!

Somehow this is reminding me of the manufactured panic over campervans down by the Marina. It was all unsubstantiated stories concocted by outsiders.

If I was involved with the Wilton Bar I'd be angry about this form of allegation. It doesn't provide any detail but the inference is there.

Of course it's no Ballymaloe as far as the OP is concerned - Ballymaloe is a fine place with fine people and no hint of a taint

What was his attitude? You are not making the issue clear at all.

Anyone been? Place was never on my radar for some reason.

Sad to see. It was there maybe 10 years?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,307 ✭✭✭✭sammyjo90

Average for me, only went the once. I didnt like the "world" tapas menu they had. Too many different things for everything to be great if you know what I mean.

Still, sad to see another place go

ORSO last night - delicious - lovely flavours really fresh ingredients/ atmosphere and great service

    Flatbreads were amazing
    My seabass was delicious

Monkfish dish and lamb shank dishes were enjoyed
The tiramisu was a disappointment dry and not much flavour

but I would recommend this restaurant

Flavours were amazing apart from the desert

The seabass looks terrible. I occasionally cook it and when it turns out like that (despite basting in butter and all that) I feel like I've done a terrible job.

The congealed gravy on the chicken looks gross.

Expected a bit more from Orso.

    i adored my sea bass

there is no chicken dish - you mean the lamb shank I guess.. yeah I didn't think it looks great but buddy loved the meat.. and he is fussy - v tender and great flavour

    wine was v €€ - i didn't have any but buddies did

€11.5 glass of cote du rhone

    €10.50 glass of albarino

ffs, of course its completely unacceptable to have people eating in a restaurant……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,307 ✭✭✭✭sammyjo90

Ok just let it go lol

I went to Probys this morning for brekkie.

Had halloumi and courgette rosti cakes(?) They are essentially potato cakes but they were lovely. The chili maple syrup was a nice addition.

Pancakes looked nice as I was stalking the plates of others.

I'm off to Specsavers - they might have a chart where I've to correctly identify lamb shank and not embarrass myself ;)

    ORSO!

Haven't been there in a couple of years now; but had some great food there, although it was hit and miss.

Good to see the flatbreads have improved, the last time they were not good at all, but great spicing in the food. The crispy kale with coriander was OTT good! 😋

    Good call! 🌞 Four Liars

I haven't been in years, but the recent reviews look great.

    food in wabisabi today
odd to me - not a patch on Dashi

Tempura was ok - a bit heavy

The fish swam over it / lots of rice

Seaweed on inside - v odd

and the staff were very annoying
kept coming over asking if ok and wanted green tea etc.. if i looked up they came over 🙈
    I wouldn’t recommend

Route Fourteen out in Togher/Lehenaghmore is to close.

Final day of trading is Sunday 24th.

Some loss of top class food from there.

Got a good offer I'm told.

Some property developer bought it, allegedly, of course.

So, talk at the moment that it's going to be levelled.

It will never be a bar/restaurant again.

It's one place I never went into. Often tempted but it was never an inviting looking place. Always looked half closed down and I never saw people outside, plenty of cars but no life.

Got Haveli from Douglas the other night. It has always been a favourite but each time I go since covid, standards are slipping. Unfortunately the 4 meals that were got have changed. Tasted like they've substituted rich creams with more salt based additives and really watery. Way less meat and in general, very poor. Very disappointed as it's hard to get a decent Indian meal anywhere in the city now.

New food offering started this week at the Rendezvous pub on Model Farm Road. Called Casa at the Rendezvous. Not been in yet but looks decent enough from their pics on Instagram. Serving Wed to Sun I think. Would really like this to be good and succeed after the many issues with serving decent food there. Bishosptown area needs somewhere for good grub!

Route Fourteen was a hard operation.

Closed Monday and Tuesday, only for sometimes it did open the 7 days a week, but the advertising for it was extremely poor. They opened some bank holiday Mondays, and didn't open for others.

Sometimes you'd pass on a Monday when it was supposed to be closed, only to see lights on, cars in the car park, etc.. You'd approach the door then, only to find out it's a private function.

Worst part over the last few months was when they stopped serving food around 8.00pm, staff had it in their minds then to get everyone out as soon as they could do they could finish up, and close the doors to go home.

Shame really. The food was outstanding.

Went to Bella Napoli for a pizza. I've heard rave reviews about the best pizza in the universe. They don't do pizzas. Menu seemed to be just pasta and steaks etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,010 ✭✭✭Markcheese

Dunno where you heard "best pizza in the universe" , it was good pizza , but not wow -

They've changed up the menu though - so more restaurant than pizzeria-

Only ate there twice. would say it was ok but not a patch on their original The Copper Grove in Bandon. Really recommend there. Best day time dining I know of.
