seems that way. a snippet from the atletic article below. at least approx 6m saved in wages.

Trabzonspor will cover the goalkeeper’s Manchester United salary in full, with Onana set to earn extra due to bonuses. Sources close to the player say he will earn almost double at Trabzonspor.

I'd throw in Dalot tbf - I'm prepared to get roasted for this lol. Versatility, always available, committed.

I also liked Daley Blind (maybe mis-used like mata) and we almost broke even on him with resale I think

I'd agree on Dalot - he was signed for roughly 22m Euro and has played just over 200 times for the club. He is not a superstar, but he was signed relatively cheaply and I presume is on a lowish wage. He has been professional, not a troublemaker.

In better times he would just be a versatile squad player covering left and right back. It's not his fault recruitment has been so poor that there has often been no one better than him to select for the first team.

If he was signed for 50 or 75 million and was on a world class wage, it would be a different conversation.

Memphis Depay is the all-time Dutch leading goal scorer. That seems a bit mad considering all the quality players they've had over the years but fair play to him.

At the start of the summer, Onana, Sancho, Rashford, Raz and Garnacho were all individually singled out as being problematic for one reason or another. All of them have now left the club and those on loan will never play for us again.

We have added 2 absolute crackers in Cunha and Mbeumo.

Ineos have gotten a fair bit wrong but all things being equal, its been a good summer for us. Player power is well and truly dead.

Let's just hope he was able to catch the flight

    Apparently...

"Real Betis renegotiated the terms of Manchester United's sell-on clause for Brazil winger Antony, 25, so they will only have to pay 50% of any profit should they sell him. Previously, United would have received 50% of any sell-on fee. (Express)"

Takes a little bit of positivity from his exit IF it can be believed.

Yeah that's fairly accurate, which is really depressing. Millions wasted on absolute duds.

If they've renegotiated it means they've paid to change the clause.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,316 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

How do a club renegotiate a deal after a deal is done. Or how do we accept lesser terms after a deal is done and dusted.

I was very surprised to hear it was 50% of any future fee in the first place. Was that just a bit of spin from our side to make the hit we've taken seem a little bit better?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

yeah, that is how I would read it. We wouldn't just give them potentially millions for nothing. Wonder what we have got for it.

Could also simply be the Express reporting crap - as they is a lot of differing reports about that 50% int he first palce.

Wouldn't quite say player power is dead, but definitely diminished.

The stubbornness of those players still cost us a bomb. We'd have got £20m for Sancho from either Juve or Roma if he hadn't kept rejecting everyone. We'd have got £10-20m more for Garnacho if he hadn't been such a stroppy sod last season and insisted on Chelsea only. We'd have got £10m more for Antony if he hadn't complied with the Betis lowball tactics.

But yes, at least they've been pushed out the door and well replaced.

it was presumably the change that got the deal over the line as it was in danger of falling through for a while. Whilst it could potentially be worth millions, it's a big if, it's not guaranteed money either way, you can't put it in the accounts I guess.

When he's played at right FB in a 4 he's great, and was one of ETH's top performers in his first management year. He's been asked to play out of position since then but never moans and always gives 100%. The squad is far healthier with him in it - a player of his ability now would cost you over 60m in today's market.

I'm hoping in future there is less of a desire to just get rid of oplayers, and we are in a situation where there are players we would move on, if we get the right deal, but will keep/use if there isn't. the reason the garnacho and antony stuff worked is because it was clear we didn't want them and if we didn't sell (for something) we would end up having to loan them out to Turkey, if we could even get a deal.

Next summer, will we be willing to sell Ugarte? Yes,I would guess so - but only if we get an offer that is worth our time. Otherwise we will be happy to have him as a squad player. Zirkzee might be the same. Dalot. Basically anyone who is seen as a squad player.

Players won't be able to say (as easily) club x or no move, when we are happy enough with them not moving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,227 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

True, our issues weren't just player power this year, that would be a better description of the Isak or Wissa situations. Players forcing their way out against the club's wishes.

With us there was such a huge buildup of absolute crap needing shifted we just didn't hold many cards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,519 ✭✭✭BenK

Dalot's not a terrible footballer by any means but I think you're overselling him there. He has a good attitude it seems and can play in a few positions but I don't think United would get anywhere near 60m for him. He's prone to lapses in concentration and poor decision making at times (see Fulham goal this season).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,227 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Behold 4 minutes of the absolute dud that was Andrei Onana.

Watch that and then bask in the glory of the knowledge that he's gone. And even though it's only a loan for now with no option or obligation, I don't think for a second that he'll ever be back.

Surprised it's only a 4 minute clip to be honest... Those Galatasaray goals really annoyed me at the time...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭scottser

Yeah, but then he goes and lays off a tasty assist for Mbuemo's goal v Burnley. I have to admit a bit of a fondness for Dalot; the good definitely outweighs the bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭scottser

That was a depressing watch. When you send a player on loan you'd expect them to show improvement by playing in a slower or less physical league but somehow, I doubt it with Onana. He's just a **** keeper. Weak hands, poor positioning, no communication, won't come for crosses. His distribution, which he was initially bought for, is non-existent now. I'm delighted he's going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,227 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

29 mistakes in 72 games for United.

And that clip was being kind. Lots more where he parried shots directly into danger leaving a tap in.

But even at the 29 that's a stupid goal conceded every 2.5 games. Unreal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,606 ✭✭✭randd1

The rumour at the time we bought him was Inter laughed when they heard United wanted him for 50m because they didn't think United were serious, and laughed again when they sold him to United for 50m because they couldn't believe their luck.

Probably just another internet nothing, but considering his time in a United jersey, you'd well believe it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,316 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

That first goal in the clip, when he was chipped against Lens in preseason, seemed to have a bigger effect than it should have been on his confidence and/or his manager's confidence in him.

Iirc he had made his debut in a preseason friendly vs Madrid before that game and we had seen the ball playing keeper we thought we had signed. A big part of signing him was so we could apparently try to play a high line with him sweeping.

No real point to this post I suppose other than I think he, and ETH, were effected by that on his OT debut and the one thing that he could should have brought to the team was gone before it started.

That assist/goal was great to see on so many levels... Mbeumo's first goal, us actually scoring by getting to the end line and pulling the ball back... But he showed his weakness in the Burnley game as well as the Fulham one, he was a million miles away from where he should have been for the Brunley cross for their first goal.

Dalot being one of the better pros / leaders in the squad over recent years is more a reflection on how low we've gone. He clearly cares but it's a bad state of affairs that he stood out for that.

Would gladly have him as a squad player.
