The fulhma goal was poor but i think there was a bit of a system issue for both burnley goals. Himself and Shaw both messed up switching back into their position on a defensive transition - which left them miles off where they should be but its also possibly they should not have swapped at all on this scenarios and wated to a better moment. Still on them, but I think an error in re-organization rather than just stepping off too far.

I think it was De Ligt and Shaw who had gotten their positioning wrong for the cross (and rather than just doing the sensible thing and defending the cross out of position rather than scrambling to fix their positioning). But Dalot was completely at sea and was nowhere near putting any sort of pressure on the crosser. Overall point with Dalot is that he's far too prone to lapses to be a top player imo.

Edit: Just watched it back, it was De Ligt that was caught badly out of position more so than Shaw. Dalot pretty much asleep to the cross though.

I do like Dalot, he's just a furstrating player to watch at times because he can go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Wouldn't be rushing him out the door but I'd snap your hand off for 60m!

With it being International week I tend to watch old highlights of cup runs, players etc.

Watched one of Fellaini and honestly the man was the OG "meme" player for us even though he was played out of position and always gave it everything.

Have a soft spot for him especially his Mourinho days.

What player do you guys have soft spots for?

There was a phase where Fellaini was played in the forward left channel by LVG and long diagonal balls were sent his way. He was unbelievably effective and caused chaos. Remember him single handedly dismantling Liverpool at Anfield

Still the best player I’ve seen in the air other than Van Dijk.

The fact he was signed to play in a deep lying midfield role is hilarious now though. Maybe in the 1980s where swinging an elbow was an effective way of tackling.

As mad as it sounds, I swear at least 50% of all fouls called against Fellaini were because he had big hair.

Was shaw not up the top of the pitch in the middle, which left deligt having to cover out wide and dalot having his man in the middle, deligt was in a rush then to try get back in when he should have stayed Shaw was then back in the centre at that stage.

Probably not something that will ever happen again but without watching it back id have to wonder what Shaw was at in the first place I'd give dalot the least amount of blame

Watched highlights of the 4-2 win in Highbury in 2005 at the weekend. It’s just not the same nowadays.

Random player I have a soft spot for is Gabriel Heinze. Obviously trying to force a move to Liverpool and even being on the arsenal coaching ticket doesn’t help but he was a warrior for united and good all round full back.

Full 90 minutes again for Sesko tonight. Unfortunately on the receiving end of a 3-0 thumping from the Swiss.

Hojlund scored for the Danes. Dorgu came off the bench for them and it was his shot rebounding off the woodwork that left Hojlund a tap in.

Hargreaves was one for me, thought he was absolutely class, proper workhorse with great technique, shame injuries derailed his career.

In recent memory Cavani for me. Always wanted him way earlier than we got him, was an unbelievable player.

That moment when he busted a gut to get the ball coming from the right side all the way to the left by line and getting it back, while the res5lt had given it up. Quick short below.

Regards Fellani, I always had praise for him on here when he was with us. He was very effective and got badly done by at times. Think because of the transfer window when, Kronos, Bale etc were promised and Fellani was got last minute iirc.

Mata also should of been played in position way more often than out of it.

Think Irwin needs more appreciation from outside the club in coversation in regards to best lb. Doesnt get the recognition on how good he was. Beast defending and going forward. Had a pinger of a fk as well. One of my all time favourite Irish players.

It was El Tigre for me. He was one of my favourite strikers and I couldn't believe we signed him. Unfortunately, he never really recovered from the knee injury he picked up and was only available in patches for us but what a player he was. Its a shame we didn't get him at his peak. Cavani is another that I wish we signed a few years earlier as well.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Denis irwin's positional sense, first touch and passing intelligence was incredible for a full-back. He rarely had to make sensational, last-ditch tackles; everything was calmly and efficiently taken care of, time after time. He makes my 'United Best 11' every time.

Henrik Larsson. He had a brief cameo in 2007. Would've broke the bank for him a decade earlier.

Yep, also had a lovely free-kick technique too.

thinking about a best 11, for my time its crazy how many played together!

    VDS
    Neville,Rio,Vidic,Evra
    Beckham, Keane, Scholes,Giggs
    Rooney, Ronaldo.

Thats a viable 'best 11' imo, and did they all play togehter at some point? 2004/5? (though Keane wouldn't have been at his best)

Copying Mitchs best 11 in my time I'd go with

    Schmeichel

    G.Neville Stam Vidic Irwin

    Beckham Keane Scholes Giggs

    Rooney RVN/Ronaldo

I'm genuinely torn on who I'd pick to play beside Rooney. RVN might be the best penalty box striker I've ever seen but Ronaldo in his final 18 months at the club was almost unplayable and it feels weird him not being an automatic inclusion but the best years of his career where at Real not with us.

I always thought his stint as a united player was overrated!

got to go with Berbatov, such a classy player, seemed like he was putting no effort in at all, looks of a 1930s movie star.

One of my favourite short-term purchases of all time was Laurent Blanc. A player who I believe was under-rated who I had a huge amount of time for was Brian McClair.

    RVN was unbelievable.

Very good player but he was never a fit for Man Utd at that time imo.

Tevez was far superior for Utd - pace, power, high pressing and creativity. But the signing of Berbatov messed him about and unsettled his position in the team, which contributed to him leaving.

Ferguson was never convinced by Berbatov. Left him out of the team for CL final in '09 and out of the squad in '11. He rarely performed for us v top 4 teams in League games and was mainly used as a flat track bully v weaker teams. Usually left out of the really important games. His style was aesthetically pleasing but he wasn't what that team needed up front.

Ronny Johnsen was a solid underrated pro for United.

Best 11 for my time watching United (several positions are a toss of a coin really):

    Schmeichel

    Irwin Ferdinand Stam Evra

    Ronaldo Keane Scholes Giggs

    Rooney Cantona

Beckham didn't play with Ronaldo, or Vidic/Evra….I always remember this stuff in terms of shirts, Ronaldo took no.7 and Beckham also never wore the second nike shirt with the white collar, whereas Vidic/Evra never wore the first nike shirt!!

Johnny Ronsen, an absolutely brilliant player at CH or as cover as a DM. Cool, calm and collected personified.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,519 ✭✭✭BenK

Fair, but I wanted to get Evra in too! On a side note, disgraceful Irwin didn't get more caps for Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,941 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Yup, damn close though. And just look at home many of that selection were prime/near prime in 08. mad.

For me he was outstanding and he later admitted he should have taken United’s offer to stay on.

    Superb player

I'm always surprised that the Bruce/Pallister partnership rarely gets a mention.
