I would expect more A320neo deliveries in the medium term for fleet renewal. The EI-DEx series of A320ceo’s are between 20 and 21 years old now. It would also be great to see some growth on the short-haul side to compliment the success of the transatlantic expansion. Of course, any growth of A320neo fleet will be on the premise that the Dublin Airport passenger cap and movement restrictions are satisfactorily resolved.

Vueling are transistioning to the B737MAX. I wonder will some of their used A320s find their way to Aer Lingus?

But as above, I cant see IAG diverting any A320neo's to expand the EI fleet while the cap is in place. Any business case from EI Mgmt will have that shadow over it.

IIRC the VLG Neos are P&W powered so wouldn't think so for those at least.

Wouldn't be too keen on the Vueling fleet anyway to be honest. One of the only positives from a passenger perspective of the NEO at Aer Lingus is the Airbus Airspace cabin, the newest Recaro seat is a little bit nicer and features eye level charging ports, a device holder on the tray table, bigger overhead bins (far superior to Boeing's) and nicer lighting.

I'd imagine a lot VY's are leased anyway and will simply return to lessor as the MAX begins to arrive. Plenty of opportunity for P&W powered A320s of that age still.

Wasnt aware of that (hadnt bothered to check) and the above mentioned leasing situation rules out an easy transfer.

In any case at least some of the Vueling Neos are due to go to Iberia (and two already have), which I think is why Vueling have been adding a lot of Ceos over recent months.

In relation to this the new seats are a massive step backwards on the new 320s, very obvious cheap ironing boards won out.

There's not a single new seat on the market that could match the old ones to be honest. Even the new BA are seats are a downgrade compared to the 2004 era design at Aer Lingus.

The biggest downgrade for me isn't how thin the seats are but the lack of headrests, this was always a nice feature of A320 fleet.

IIRC they're worse on NSA & NSB than subsequent deliveries due them being last minute, opportunistic acquisitions?

I agree wish they keep the old style seats was on ei nsd and the seats are very uncomfortable for a 4 flight to Turkey going to lanzarote in February and it looks like the neos be on the morning flight im dreading it never taught it would say im dreading to fly aerlingus

The first three or four deliveries are fitted with the IAG standard, NSA and NSB were reconfigured to match a year or so ago. It's the basic slim line seat from Recaro that IAG had purchased for its narrowbody fleets quite a few years ago. The same seat can be seen on Vueling, Iberia, Level and the majority of British Airways' A320 fleet.

Recaro very recently discontinued this seat and has moved to an updated version, it features a wider support, slightly resculpted structure and minor improvements to the seat back including eye level charging ports and a notch in the tray table to stand personal devices on. This is what features on Aer Lingus' more recently deliveries like EI-NSE onwards.

    ---------

Personally the seat doesn't bother me, maybe I'm used to flying on these slimline seats in Europe. Swiss & Lufthansa have had them for 15+ years in verious iterations. Aer Lingus had become a bit of a exception with their old school cabins to be honest and it looks like they'll be around for many more years anyway as they all received a refresh in the past 18 months.

Aer Lingus is already at a disadvantage with the majority of their short haul fleet, at 174 seats it's at the lower end and many rivals have long densified their cabins to remain competitive. By comparison, Ryanair will soon be flying 220+ seat 737-10s and the likes of Wizz and Easyjet already have substantial fleets of almost 240 seat A321neos, even so called flag carriers like TAP, Lufthansa, Swiss, KLM, IB and BA have denser cabins.

Once again I find myself wishing that there was an option to pay a little more for a slightly less uncomfortable short-haul product out of Ireland.

Over the last year or so I've made a concerted effort to shed most of my integrated seat cushioning – and as a result a two hour flight on EI-NSG recently left me with a numb backside.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

Me and the Missis flew to ACE on the NEO back around Feb 2024 for an extra €160 we got the biz class seats up front. It was well worth it as we only had about 1 hours sleep from the night before after being at the Depeche Mode concert.

Aer Lingus UK saw a 72% load factor in June, up from 65% versus last year. Summer school holidays don't begin until late July for much of the UK.
