Well done to Kerry, delighted to see football win. What a performance. Jack O'Connor will have to go down as one of the greatest managers of all time now. Enjoy the celebrations!

I hear Sharlene Mawdsley was knocking around Tralee this morning looking for challengers!

Great result, hard to believe we won with what was a 4th and 5th choice midfielders admittedly with JOC giving a hand. Both .ark O Shea and Sean O Brien will give depth to our midfield. Going into next year we will have 5 experienced. Midfielders, DoC, JoC, BDoS, SoB and MoS.

Even with ToS back we probably need to bring through another option at corner back. As well we pronged another option for sub goalie.

Will we see a few retirements, Tadgh Morley ?, Paul Geany ? Pauly Murphy? and or Shane Murphy.

With the new rules we could win 2-3 titles between now and 2030. However other teams will start to adapt to the new rules fairly fast.

    We've a strong panel now.

Great for AvB games in training.

I think they'll be very motivated to go for the 40th and back to back.

They're a mature panel so won't go nuts with the celebrations.

I wouldn't be surprised if nobody retires. Paul Geaneys the oldest but was flying this year.

I'd imagine Paul Murphy won't be starting next year. I like him a lot but he could be stickier.

Apparently Evan Looney was marking Clifford in training and doing well, which is why he moved up the pecking order.

Likewise Tomás Kennedy did well on Gavin White so that's why we saw him off the bench.

Lots of young talent to introduce also from the U20s.

We could probably field a pretty decent B team.

Apparently Ben Murphy has signed an AFL contract but not confirmed.

Paul spend over half the championship injured, similar with Morley. Paul Murphy could be the same next year. When you reach your 30's football is unforgiving. Yes the new rules helps the front and back three but if we want to win 4-5 over the next ten year we need to keep rebuilding around David Clifford for the next 7-8 years.

You often have to throw young players in at the deep end like Sean O Brien and Mark O Shea this year.

It was not the celebration that caught us in 2023 ya we had a poor league but inability to make decisions on the sideline that handed Dublin that match. Dublin were the better team on the day but we allowed them to be in the last 15-20 and first half.

The same can happen again maybe not next year but then again maybe it will.

Paul Geaney was very emotional in a video today so maybe he's stepping away.

Personally I like them all to stay but it's their decision.

I like having a mix of ages but at the same time not blocking a young players path.

Can anyone here advise me whether the club championship will be in full swing mid-October? I have a week off work and hoping to watch Clifford in the flesh

I don't think the Club Championship will still be going by then, Fossa play John Mitchels this Saturday in round one.

The County Championship should be in full swing by then though and you might get to see him playing for East Kerry.

In news that will surprise absolutely nobody, Jack and the full backroom team are staying on.

A massive opportunity to win 1 or 2 more over the next 5 or 6 years.

2 year term for the lads this time.

Not to be greedy but we could win more than that in next few years.

The current panel should be good for 5 or 6 years with a few new players to keep things fresh. Lots of talent in the recent under 20 teams.

I feel like the 40th will be a big one and if we achieve that next year, I could see a few players taking a year out though but who knows.

It's so difficult to win the AI, I think 1 or 2 over 5 or 6 years with a team in their prime is fair. 3 would be fantastic, anything else is unreal bonus territory.

Full weight of expectations on this team now.

No super strong teams at the moment but they're probably coming eg Tyrone.

I guess it only takes one bad performance and you're out.

Still though, I'd hope David Clifford and Seanie O'Shea end up with 4 or 5 AIs minimum.

Absolutely. Kerry have established a great team unit at the moment and the potential to win more All Irelands but in saying that all it takes is just an injury to a key player or a ref decision or a malfunction on a given day and a team could be out of championship. All teams will see Kerry now as the benchmark and it's fine when you are hunting like Kerry were this year but when you are the hunted as Kerry will be next year they be extra pressure on. But Kerry are Kerry and will always be up for a challenge and be hard to beat regardless.

Correct. Kerry lost to Meath and drew with Cork — thankfully, both results came at stages where there was still time to recover. But it just goes to show that Kerry, like every other team, are prone to the occasional lapse and are very much beatable.

This is where the six-in-a-row Dublin team were in a different league. There were no slip-ups, no lapses — just ruthless consistency, game after game, year after year.

The fact that the great Kerry side of the 2000s could only manage one back-to-back All-Ireland (Tyrone never managed it) highlights just how incredibly difficult it is to achieve that kind of dominance, and really underlines the genius of that Dublin team.

I would be surprised if we see Paudie at all. He's carrying an injury.

And rumblings around the place is that David will be given a break.

So don't go planning your time around an East Kerry game if you're in Kerry when they're playing

I like an OSe involved in Kerry football, I thought they might get donaghy involved at some level

    imo pretty underwhelming.

What exactly has Marc done to get this job? Get Listry to a Junior final that they lost? From what i've been told his involvement with Listowel and The Green is pretty low other than being seen. While i hope i'm wrong i can see this going the same way as when Darragh was the U21 manager.

Would also question what Tomas has done in three season to get another go at it. Outside of Munster he's only won one game. Granted the other two were to the eventual champions.

In the last 15/20 years the CB have had a poor record of giving lads underage jobs based on their name and the return speaks for itself.

1.45pm throw in on Sunday for Stacks v Dingle.

Nice that we will have the county champions represent us in Munster and not the club champions.

Hopefully Joe O Connor continues his form in a possible match up with Mark O Connor which I don't think should be allowed. Bit of a nonsense bringing a pro athlete back for a handful of games.

Intriguing game in store after their respective results

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,652 ✭✭✭kerryjack

great to see Mark O Connor back playing for his club and hopefully will come back and give his county a year or 2, might not be a bad plan to send all our promising footballers off to Australia for a few years and bring them back in peak physical condition at the age of 26 or 27 .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,253 ✭✭✭50HX

Wouldn't agree with Mark o connor being g jettisoned in like that.

    Smack of Kennelly in 09

If they are in peak physical condition tney will stay in Aus imo

A year ago I might have agreed but now we have a lot of MF options. DOC will be back next year, Joe will be challenging him to be the main man ne,tvyear, we have Mrak O Shea, Sean OBrien and Barry Dan as well.

I be giving Joe a rest instead early part of the league, let the rest fight it out to see who partners him.

I'm sure the news about Donaghy joining won't surprise anyone but do we think its like an "apprenticeship" for the top job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,407 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

That's how it should be done really.

Learning off Jack and Cian is the perfect training.
