Despite having no houses we'll ask as many to come as possible if it'll show up the Brits. We really are that immature as a country.

Firstly I didn’t mention my own values whatsoever, so I don’t know why you’re repeatedly referencing my personal values as if I had

Regardless, what is your point exactly?

Are you attempting to deny that as a society there are broadly accepted values amongst Irish people?
Or that there might be commonalities in those values with certain other cultures/societies and larger distinctions with others?

You don’t think societal values in Ireland might be more similar to Poland or Spain for example, than they might be in Somalia or Russia or anywhere else no?

HOLY Hannah!!!! Did you seriously just write that?
We have really smashed the overton window now

    You must be joking.

The clowns we have running this country aren't capable of planning anything.

We will become the dumping ground of Europe and the government will continue to tell us everything is grand.

    Some massive generalisations there .

"Unfortunately that is the Irish way."

    "staffed with unaccountable lifers "

    "their lazy apathetic attitudes"

Not surprised to see this . Posters have accused others of "hating the Irish " ( not specifically you two ) but these posts show a disrespect and dislike for ordinary Irish people working in the public service or public bodies, most of whom are decent hardworking people but are battling bureaucracy and unwieldy systems not of their making.

There is a definite connection between people posting about immigration and being " Irish and proud " in one breath and then in the next , ranting against NGOs ,and the next as above ranting about people working all their lives in a bureacratic systems set up to manage everyday boring bureaucracy for the Irish people.

Do you actually believe those really despicable comments about Irish workers ?

And another from the first poster there

"We really are that immature as a country." 🙄

    Shame on you .

    "Shame on you"…

Ya these kinds of pathetic shaming tactics from Progressives is wearing thin, I for one are sick of the sanctimonious types who are supporting the most far reaching policies any Government of this country has ever undertaken, given the damage that has been done to this very state. We are forcing deeply unpopular and very damaging policies on our population in a severe housing crisis, often using the Riot Police to do so…

I'm not so sure you are in a position to be shaming anyone. Especially, anyone who has chosen to ignore the results of these policies that we all see across Europe.

The poster is spot on, we are a highly dysfunctional state, with multiple crisis across all sections of our society. And we lack the collective intellectual capacity to have a discussion about it. Because, anyone who speaks up will be shamed out of it…we have seen it time and time again in recent years.

If you want to put it in perspective, we know we will see a surge in violence and crime. Only an idiot would try to argue that we won't see an increase in crime. We should be building more prison spaces. We fund an NGO whose job it is to ensure the Government doesn't build more prison spaces. In more ways than one, this Government is like a demented person you'd see hitting themselves in the head.

At least you aim the blame for dysfunction where it belongs… The government of the day and past .

The posters are not bang on . It is hypocritical as I outlined already.

I will ignore the rest of it because its just the usual ill directed anti leftie/ NGO tripe .

This is what gets me. Its as if lots of western countries have taken in no one the last 40 years. We have been overly generous as a nation and part of a continent thats been so too. Time to slow the flow dramatically

It seems some people think Irish health services are okay, Ireland is doing fine on defence and its civil service does not have a problem with accountability.

All of these would point to an immaturity in a young State. So does the failure to develop a sound policy around immigration and the difficulty with having a public debate on it.

In fact I’d say a comment like ‘shame on you’ for pointing out very obvious flaws reflects the weak thinking and shrill commentary that causes so many Irish problems.

This from someone who dismissed one of the countries foremost economists as ‘a bit of a prick’.

Unfortunately this is what you are dealing with.

Flicked on BBC 1 last night and caught about 20 minutes of a discussion around immigration and what the different parties are offering.

A few things were striking from an Irish perspective. Everyone there realises it must be lowered; jackasses gaslighting the public seem to have gone out of business in the UK. No one brings up racism, a handy slur to prevent debate doesn’t cut it there anymore.

They have moved onto debating how immigratuon can be reduced rather than if it should be. And when international obligations came up the discussion quickly moved to working with European leaders to change the expectations.

In Ireland that thinking is not fashionable. People cite international obligations and don’t seem to realise the Government is not a prisoner and can work with other countries for change.

Our own debate on immigration is often marked by immaturity and piety ‘doing the jobs the Irish don’t want’, ‘the Irish went everywhere’ etc.

The funny thing is so many Irish peope feel superior to countries where they genuinely debate immigration. It’s the same on defence, there’s a cohort in the Irish left who sneer at NATO even though our own defence relies on it, because we can’t be bothered defending ourselves.

The David McWilliams podcast this week is really interesting and very much on point with this thread I feel. Its looking at Germany 10 years after Angela Merkel opened up to 1.1 million asylum seekers. He speaks with historian Katja Hoyer, she's seriously sensible, one point that struck with me is the swimming pools, you've young teenagers in bikinis with men who come from a culture where is is unheard of yet if we went to their country our Government would guide on practice, culture and how to behave. Interesting from a social and political stance as a point of discussion.

Someone born and bred in this country is probably losing out on a college place to make space for these 52 Palestinians they are bringing over.

Yet all the rich Arab countries over there wont offer any help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭Cordell

Yes sir I just did exactly that. I know this is something everyone is terrified to speak of, but that doesn't make it any less true. London went from being 93% white 87% white British in 1971 to 54% white and 37% white British in 2021. If this trend continues, and there is nothing being done to stop it, next census will show it to be the first white minority European capital.

Helping out 52 Palestinians, with what is going on over there, is a funny thing to pick on.

Arab states could be doing more but Saudi Arabia for e.g. have donated billions to Palestine in the last 20 years or so. Qatar too have donated quite a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,134 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

Does that bother you? Why? Whole areas of London became practically Irish in the 20th century, now people come from further afield and look different. London is a fantastic city, lived there for years, it's a global mega city and is never going to be white like the 70s again. Get over it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,557 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

Have you ever even been here? What you've written here is clearly absurd. Can you back up this silly claim that everyone is terrified at all?

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

Well that's the thing, it bothers me because we white Europeans need to get over it. We are the only ones who have to do that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,134 ✭✭✭✭Thelonious Monk

Poor you! And even when Nigel is PM over there and even if he manages to stop the boats, London will still be minority white sooner or later. Make peace with it.

If it makes you feel any better countries like Qatar and Malaysia and Singapore have huge foreign populations too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭Cordell

No one will stop it, especially not that little prick. And it's not about me accepting it as a done deal, it's about using it as a cautionary tale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,557 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

My only gripe with the place is the cost of living here. Other than that, it's probably the best city in Europe. I can't think of anywhere else that has so much stuff for absolutely everyone.

Yep, I miss living there all the time. The fact that most of my neighbours in Camberwell were black never bothered me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,557 ✭✭✭✭ancapailldorcha

Mine in Wembley are Romanian and Pakistani. I've never understood the reason why some people get so easily triggered by diversity. Nobody is forced to live here.

Do you not think we need a Farage here? I would have thought a charismatic character running on an anti immigration ticket is what many Irish people would want to vote for.

No we don't need such a grifter, we just need FG/FF politicians to do what's right and what was originally intended with EU free travel principle: severely limit non EU migration.
