What sort of acceleration are you looking for? All the facelift cars are fast, even the base RWD S 75. If you want significantly faster, you will have to get yourself a performance version

With respect, that wasn't what I asked.

Seems that (for example) S75Ds with build dates post-July 2017 have full fat motors, but 2016 and early 2017 75Ds had a firmware that throttled max power from the motors. I have been reading that this uncorking via firmware update was offered for free from Tesla service centres, but as these cars are now 8-9 years old I was wondering if it's something still offered?

I can't get a straight answer from Sandyford SC. The uncorking moves a 75D from 380hp to 518hp, seems worthwhile.

Unless you are the owner, Tesla will not answer that question

That's more or less what I'm finding, so wondering if there is experience here within the MS community - either directly as owners or indirectly knowing other owners etc.

I'd register for Telsa Motors Club in the UK and ask there where it would have been more prevalent

Apologies, you are right. That is not what you asked. I just thought you wanted a more generic answer about performance

You no longer have plans to sell it?

Personally I wouldn't know what to get next for a large practical family car that is not an SUV. A Lucid Air is cool, but they were never sold in RHD. Porsche Taycan? Great car, it's a Porsche, genuine step up in luxury and desirability and driving pleasure but the tech and interface are a decade behind and the cars are beyond problematic and unreliable.

I think I will keep my Model S for a long time. Just thinking now and at over 3.5 years (not even counting the 2 years I had the previous one) it is already the main car I have owned the longest ever. Normally I change every 2 years, or thereabouts

So your current car & your new car ? I take it the 142 is the one your buddy bought, but you have 2 yourself, currently ?

Hopefully not the Morgan Cars 90D.

    The 142 is my previous car, a 85P. My current car is a 171 75. My buddy's car is a 172 75 (that I organised buying from a boardsie)

My "new" car is a 161 90D on UK reg, that I brought in at the weekend, now getting some minor stuff fixed, like tyres and brakes, got service from Tesla yesterday, getting on Irish reg next week, then booking NCT and selling on. It got a brand new 90kWh battery from Tesla and should easily be the cheapest Model S for sale in Ireland (without any major issues). Anyone interested, PM me

Imagine having unkel as your neighbour. Be like listening to this guy in Father Ted saying "We run the gas off the electricity and the electricity off the gas and save 200 pounds a year". 😂

The cheapest model S in Ireland is down around the 13k mark, so it would need to be in that territory.

Read that ad. That car needs a new front motor which costs €4k, the quote from Tesla is included in one of the pics

Mine does not have any major issues, motors are fine, got brand new battery. But yes the plan is for it to be very competitively priced, I am planning to put it up for €12,995. To anyone in here: what are all your thoughts about that price?

For comparison, the cheapest Model S in the entire UK (on Autotrader), apart from a car that is crashed and badly repaired, is GBP10,500 (€12,200)

Sounds good Unkel. It would be even better if it went to someone who might actually use/cherish it, ideally over a long period, rather than look to make money on it.

Will you let me know when the ad goes up? I am shopping for a Model S for about a year now.

Yeah imagine having a neighbor that would go out of his way to help you buy a car.

    @User1998

Fair play. Always puts his money where his mouth is. That’s how you get good fair deals on cars. You just have to be ready to jump and buy.

That was insanely quick. As above, these are the cars that sell and no one sees on donedeal etc and wonders why the market seems stagnant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,794 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Cheers @Gumbo. And thanks @unkel for the deal.

You’re incredibly lucky. I was only talking to @unkel about it!

Now remember, turn up, wave the cash and get a longer warranty from him 😂😂

There are a few issues that he was fully upfront about. There are faults with the sunroof, air conditioning, and rear parking brake. But it drives perfectly fine. And I did get a decent discount to account for all of this anyway. So overall I think it was a pretty good deal. I had just sold my Model 3 a few weeks ago so it was good timing.

I’ve had 2 MS’s and a 3 and a Y so be interested in your thought on how this compares to your 3 in your opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,794 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Yeah, I’l make sure to post an update in due course👍🏻

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,794 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Well I can already say that I’m starting to like the Model S a lot. The suspension & steering are really nice and make it an absolute dream to drive. And the power it has is immense. It genuinely makes me sick when I accelerate too hard😂

I didn’t miss not having a speedometer in the Model 3 but its nice to have one again and the navigation is handy to have right in front of you.

The only thing I can really complain about is that the MCU1 software is quite slow & outdated, the reverse camera isn’t very crisp, and the lack of centre console is quite annoying.

I have ordered a set of rear pads and one caliper motor cheap from Ebay. I’m hoping that fixes the parking brake issue without having to do a full brake replacement

The frunk latch was not opening either but I managed to pry it open and fixed the issue with some silicone spray. And now that the frunk opens I can get it topped up with new AC gas after my holiday this week and see if that fixes the AC issue

I got the sunroof to tilt open as well but then it wouldn’t close so I’m going to leave that one alone😂

MCU2 update an option. That brings the Netflix etc

It’s all Mercedes switchgear so I wonder if a Mercedes specialist could look at the sunroof?
