Ugarte vs Everton was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen by a professional footballer.

I do fear Casemiro and Fernandes get overran. But playing Ugarte is just so negative. It’s a concession at the outset that we will not even attempt to play football. We’ll sit in, tackle, and hump it long.

Rice pressing Ugarte with his back to goal would be suicidal.

Hopefully a message to the board as well. Get me a CM.

Just so we're are clear, people are allowed to point out the problems before the game, but not allowed to mention it afterwards, right?

RA seems to have drunk all the kool-aid and is fully bought into the idea that somehow Bruno can play in a midfield 2.

This reminds me of the Ugarte/Eriksen pairing vs Newcastle, not confident at all now.

Dalot actually I now see he wants more physicality so not too bothered by that.

Reading all the posts today and seeing the lineup has my anxiety spiking.

My fingers are so crossed they're giving each other arthritis.

de ligt over maguire, casemiro over ugarte and Mount over sesko.

I just can't get behind amorin with dumb ass decisions like this. Throwing this game.

That's a crap starting 11. I'd actually fancy the subs bench to give them a game.

    Champions: City

    Runners up: Arsenal

    United finish: 4th

    United POTS: Mount

United Flop of the season: Bayindir

He was good the previous game and casemiro us also horrible under pressure. So we get all the bad parts of ugarte with out the legs to cover ground. Great.

De Ligt and Maguire have very little between them. Casemiro is far superior to Ugarte. Sesko was literally signed 8 days ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Maguire more proactive in attacking the ball, stepping up, and in his ball use.

There is a chasm between them.

Casemiro is rubbish in the pl. Cant run, poor under pressure, poor on the ball. It's pure bias against urgarte.

So what if sesko was signed 8 days ago. We've evidently no other striker!

So Cunha at 9 Mount at 10?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭DataDude

Fair enough on Maguire. I rate him more highly too. I don’t think there is much in it though. Both have their weaknesses.

Casemiro is just better than Ugarte. Even if he was in a wheelchair. It’s not close. Look at any statistical rating of last season and you’ll see a chasm between the two of them in PL.

Modern football is pretty tactically complex. Sesko won’t have had time to get up to speed. He also missed the last 3 pre-season friendlies so won’t be physically up to speed. Standard for him to come from the bench.

Statistically our best cm pairings included ugarte.

I'd argue for case AND ugarte. But Bruno and case is a terrible pl pairing. It was good in the EL cause of the physical superiority, which we don't have in the pl. Case and Bruno will be a disaster, all season.

There is no world in which Mount is a better striker than sesko, regardless of any tactics.

Played mount as 9 with cunha and mbuemo as 10's against fiorentina. Categorically did not work. Changed to mbuemo as 9 and mount as 10 as match progressed. Ineffective also.

Surprised how poor that selection was against fiorentina that he would go again but this time put mount up against physically stronger saliba and Gabriel 🤷‍♂️

Dalot over Amad is a terrible call as well. Amad was one of pur best players last season while Dalot was awful for most of it. On the one hand he's being super conservative picking Dalot and on the other he's throwing caution to the wind with a midfield that can't hold on to the ball.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Yeh it's a silly selection I won't be defending him after the game.

Awful line up, but sure listen, let’s see how the game goes. But if we lose and play sh*te, this one is on Amorim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Sesko must be a tactical imbecile then if it takes him so long to understand the role that Mount is considered a better striker option today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,776 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I'd gladly take a draw now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,049 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Also against Set Piece FC Dalot gives you more height. Whether it's affective or not is another thing. Now I still would have preferred Amad over Dalot. Think he offers more going forward and even defensively he's better at closing down players and winning the ball back to start counters. So fingers crossed Dalot proves me wrong and has a cracker.

I hope so. Maybe a 3-5-2 or call it a 5-3-2 but would hope that Mount is playing closer to midfield with Cunha and Mbeumo playing higher.

Can we wait and see what Amorim says when he’s inevitably asked about it. One would assume he wasn’t considered ready to start today and when he is, he will be playing most games.

Amorim on Sesko and Zirkzee on the bench:

"Of course [they can bring something coming off the bench]. Josh has had few training sessions with us, Sesko has changed his life in a week, so we try to pick the best team to start."

    Amorim on starting XI:

It's going to be like this during the season. We have more options, we have to choose the right players for each game.

"Sometimes we are thinking not just about the 11 guys that start the game. We need to imagine how we are going to finish the game and to win the game."

    Amorim on strong bench:

"It's really important. We don't know, we can't imagine how the game is going to be played, but in the end, we need to have options to change things during the game, and we have that players."

    Amorim on the game :

"Of course, [anything is possible] especially in front of our fans, a new season against a very, very good team. So we are prepared for that. It's going to be a very good game."

    Amorim on United fans:

"They are always important, but the most important thing is for us to perform, and to run, and to fight. And then, no matter what is the result, the fans will be with us."

Way too many over reactions to the selections but that's not unusual on here.

Playing a very good side today. Hopefully the bench can win it for us.

They did, but evidence suggests Bruno and Casemiro in the middle is a recipe for getting sacked.

Yup but it is the internet so you get the extremes.

Not the lineup I wanted but time to get behind the team.

Sky graphic showing Cunha at 9 and Mount 10.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,607 ✭✭✭kerplun k

We really don’t do ourselves any favours. We’ve dropped one striker who’ll run his socks off and at least put in a shift, and the brand new shiny one is sat on the bench for no reason at all.

If this goes badly, AM will be absolutely crucified, and rightly so. Honestly, the best we can hope for today is a boring, scrappy draw just to spare the manager from the firing squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,776 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

I hope I'm proven wrong about the result and as most of you know I'm more than happy to admit when I'm wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,437 ✭✭✭Quags

But it’s the literally the same argument from last season cause we haven’t signed a CM so you’re either getting Case or Ugarte.

Regarding after the game it’s the same doomers who sometimes I think want us to lose just so they can go told ye so.

Whatever happened to seeing how the team actually performs before slaughtering them?

Game 1 of the season. Let's get behind the team whoever is on the pitch.

The shiny one has had a handful of sessions for training I say and the other one is not a very good striker.
