Don’t want to dampen any expectations (pardon the pun) but nothing happening in either of those pics, as much as I’d love it

Scotland seems to have taken the thunderstorms this time

Never seen a day with such explosive looking convection that went nowhere.

My sister said thunder and lightening in Dundee and huge hailstones yesterday.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

This night 3 years ago was the best lightening display I have seen since 1986. Amazing storm in the North Meath/Cavan/Louth area. Very gusty winds, no rain or thunder Just constant lightening.

Remember that storm, I was on the first night of a holiday in Donegal and it passed over us, was at the end of a week or two of very very warm weather. We could actually see it slowly building the evening before. Proper intense storm.

Poor outcomes from the models with predicting thunderstorms lately . Certainly got the heavy convective rain but not enough energy to push the clouds that one step further apart from short lived activity .

Tomorrow some of the models, especially the ECM showing potential in the SW especially Kerry, hinting at it the last couple of runs but full on from the latest run especially Kerry in the afternoon. I would have more confidence if it is showing it as such on the next run. Borderline stuff to see how close or over the SW the occluded front comes. Plenty of heat and humidity overland and the topography would aid lift if some convection moved in overland. The ECM shows a lot of energy along the front but it is the kind of subtle set up that could change in the next run, will see.

    Edit: spelling.

This summer has been fairly poor for thunderstorms, especially in the east. Still a few weeks left but not much optimism. Perhaps September could deliver if the heat comes back (which it probably will). Bay of Biscay storms pushing up through the country would be great. Rare as hens teeth though.

ECM sticking to its guns showing the potential for Thunderstorms in the SW, mainly over Kerry and some severe storms possible showing up on the indices, got it wrong recently for up around Sligo but been on this now a few runs. AROME showing thunderstorm possibility later this evening. A lot of the activity may be over water and around the coast, but some overland also, will see the next run if it holds its prediction .

ECM 06Z still showing thunderstorm potential in the SW this afternoon and more so the evening centering in on Kerry and especially the Dingle Peninsula with potential for heavy big storms and flash flooding possible. It is throwing out very big charts, not much from the other models to back it up but from experience when it sticks with the same general outlook then it is not to be ignored. Will see what happens.

Pretty powerful thunderstorm passing overhead here on the Beara Peninsula atm. Rumbles of thunder every 30 seconds or so.

Can hear thunder rumbling to the west in the distance about an hour now, sounds like its courtmacsherry/clon direction but no strikes seen on radar.

Was indeed there for a while, can still hear distant thunder, but the storm passed over here fairly quickly, actually have noticed how quick the storms have been moving today. A lot of power outages ,can see the tracks of the different storms.

Cant actually see the cloud structures because of the veil if thin Altostratus, must be fairly high bases, Convection showing up well on Satellite

Lots of thunder in Cork the last 20 mins, torrential rain now. Really does feel like a proper continental summer we're having this year 😁 I suppose more akin to somewhere like Sweden rather than Spain.
