Sorry to hear that mate. I taught once you made the interview stage that was more or less it. As seemly there's an 87% fail rate on the tests.

The instructor did say to me on the last test that if you fail the last test ie computer one and you apply next year you dont hav to do phase 1 as you already passed it and they will be recruiting for the next few years. I presume it be the same if u passed phase 2 as well.

yeah, that’s definitely not how it works. Some people don’t make it past the first interview. Others won’t make it past the second one and some will then fail the medical exam. The tests only ensure you meet the basic standard required to drive a train (not including medical). You still have to convince Irish rail you’re the right fit for the position and be medically well.

Fair enough. The last examiner said to me when I was asking him questions at the end. That if you pass all the exams your more or less in as that's the hard part. Bit I take nothing for granted in life. I didn't even know there was 2 interviews. Just taught it was 1 and medica.

    What's involved in 2nd interview?

I don't know why you were told that your more or less in if you pass the exams as people fail the interviews or medical. The second interview is a panel interview with a HR representative, service delivery manager and a traction executive.

And do they go over the same stuff as in the first interview? The questions you answered. I was told to look up star interview method if I make it to the second one.

Yeah it's pretty much the same. They ask you to explain your answers more in depth. If you get the invite the email will contain the necessary points of information you need to study.

they will also ask you questions about the company itself, to see if you’ve done any research on Irish rail so be prepared for that!

looks like there will be 3 more classes in 2025, two in October and 1 in November.
1 of those is definitely a dart class, and apparently another diesel class for Dublin. Potentially regional class or mixed Dublin/regional.

Just Wondering, if I were to get in to the classroom is it guaranteed to get into a job or is it on condition of passing exams that the job is given?

If you get into the classroom, the chances of you not making it as a driver are pretty slim. If you can’t pass the exams, then you clearly shouldn’t be driving trains.
If you can’t pass out, you’ll probably be able to get some other lower position in the company.

Having literally just finished the exams last week... You absolutely should not be in a position to fail, for reference I (and 6 of the 7 others) got over 98% average over the four exams

I got invited to the second interview, hopefully it goes well.

What is the classroom stuff you're talking about? Is that after you get the job or is it the assessments in phases 1 and 2?

After you get the job, 3 months of classroom

What are the shifts like for driving the DART when you do pass out??

How did you get on in second interviews? I have mine in 2 weeks.

Any advice for researching the company, like what sort of stuff I would need to look at specifically? You could read bit and pieces about Irish Rail all day but I want to focus on the kind of stuff they're looking for if possible.

They're looking for you to know the types of services they offer, what kind of fleet and where you'd service from certain depots

I had my 16pf interview this week.

Just want to say fair play to all who have gone though the stages, to me I think its phase 6 but to IE its phase 2 I think.

I am awaiting my update on the 16pf interview.

Honestly I havnt had much interview experience recently but the 16pf was extremely slow and awkward and just did not flow and maybe that was me but it felt disjointed due to the fact the interviewer needed to catch up with notes all the time, it seems like a step that could be removed.

In comparison I had an interview with a semi state last week and I came out thinking wow, they were interested in all I said and were not just wanting to hear the tag words.

I used the same competencies in both interviews.

Anyway. Good luck to all still in the pot.

I had 2nd interview yesterday. I have to say found it very tough. It's meant to be only an hour and mine was an hour & 50 mins. I have to say though I found every stage tough..

@Midnight_EG how are you finding it?

The one question they asked me that i didn't get was what other services do irish rail do apart from passenger? I said freight and they said yeah anything else. I was thinking food/ catering online booking, WiFi on trains etc but my mate who works on the tracks said (before interview obviously cas I knew this question wud come up) nah passenger & freight is what there looking for.. obviously he was wrong. Any ideas?

Sounds like they just wanted to see if you knew they ran Rosslare Europort.

I wouldn't have thought they'd want to discuss stuff like RPSI and heritage specials. A lot of management seem to have no time for that side of things.
