Well freight goes from Roselare harbour doesn't it. I actually think the were looking for food/drink WiFi as they are services provided online booking too maybe I'm wrong.

No definitely just what trains they operate

You're wrong. They don't give a fùck if you know about food trolleys and wifi. They want people with an aptitude for driving trains.

So I got asked the question about which services they offer in my interview last year. I said Dart, Commuter, Intercity, Cork to Dublin, Enterprise and freight. They then asked for some commuter and Intercity routes. My 2nd interview also lasted about 1 hour. Got a email then about 2 weeks later for a medical then got the job.

They definitely wanted you to know that they operate Rosslare Harbour, not any of that stuff you mentioned about WiFi & catering services.

In general with interviews, if they run to time, it means they've been able to make a decision about you - be it good or bad. When interviews run over time, it generally means that they're undecided & they're giving you an opportunity to talk yourself into or out of the job.

They had already asked me to name the main stations and routes which I answered. This question was said other than passenger what other services do iarnoid eireann provide. I said freight and said yeah anything else? I couldn't think of any and he said that's ok & moved on. A mate who works on the tracks said that's a good sign that they went over. Because there doing loads of interviews so if they didn't want you they would of ended it way sooner. Who knows 🤷‍♂️

Yeah that seems to be the answer but I had already talked about these when I was calling out the routes apart from freight.

I had my 2nd interview yesterday. Was similar to the 16pf one but not as in depth went over everything they sent out in the email and asked me what the main stations in dublin were and what the end stations were and what rail services they operate. they mentioned if successful medical is next step. does anyone know do they offer panel places before the medical or after? Just said there will be a panel of successful candidates and it may not start immediately depending on where u place on the panel. interview lasted about 50/55 mins or so. they told me id hear back in two weeks or so.

also any info on whats in the medical

On the medical there's an bmi test, eyesight test, drug test, hearing test, heart monitor and then a meeting with the medical officer to discuss previous medical history etc. Not sure if I left anything else out.

you’ll be fine. Mine was 34 at my medical back in March. They didn’t even blink. I spoke to them about how I was on a fitness journey and had a weight lifting coach and all that and she just said yeah amazing, keep it up. As long as things like cholesterol etc are also in the normal parameters with a slightly higher bmi, you’ll be grand.

It's quite a physical job, so good to hear you are getting fit for it. They take a full history, so are open to hearing about steps you are taking to get in better health.

I have my first interview coming up . It says it’s on my personality questionnaire I did . Does anyone have any information on what to expect ? Anything helps . Cheers .

had mine a few weeks back its with someone from HR. they just go over everything you wrote on the form and question you in detail over it and how it made u feel and so on took about a hr or so to cover everything then it gets sent to the uk for a psychologist to look at and they have the final say if you pass to 2nd interview. well thats my understanding of what happens the way they explained it to me at the first interview.

thanks for that 👍 the form we did up at the centre ? Did they touch much on the personality form ? Cheers and good luck with it

Yeah they tell you what you answered and ask why too you select that etc. So you just have to elaborate.. They also ask what emotion you felt.

TThe 16pf interview that I had, the interviewer mentioned my example for each competency and then asked for another example, once that was done I was asked to expand on my original.

I ended the interview feeling awkward. Just got the email saying they have dumped me.

What is the starting pay does anybody know? On the driver recruitment it stated salary of €68,000. But reading online i think that might be the top end of pay scale. Plus there's a years training & i think that's alot lower while training? Just wondering what the pay scale is?

There's a ten year pay scale, which you start on roughly after your first year or so of training.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 mich788

Sorry to hear that . It wasn’t an easy process so you did well . Did mine yesterday and had same feeling as yerself after it !

It will be closer to €69500 from January. That's the last pay increase due until the next pay talks.

haha, it can be a long wait alright. No news is good news though so hopefully it will come your way!I have heard Galway will be taking on more drivers in the next class/year but I don't know how true that is but at least its a positive

Was anybody called up from Cork to Dublin for an assessment centre for a driver position recently at all? I passed the online tests in October 2024 and heard nothing since. I emailed HR a few days ago with no reply. I know it is by location basis of when drivers are needed but it is 10 months now so I am not sure if there was a mistake on their end and they forgot about me or not.

Got email this morning. Didn't pass the second interview. So going over by 50 mins was obviously a bad thing 😂 my mate who works on the rail road even can't believe it. As I'm perfect candidate. He told me before applying passing exams is hardest part.. obviously not. I'm a bit devastated to be honest all that for nothing. Talking to lads at the training centre while doing the exams some 4th & 5th time applying & they never got through the exam phase!

Really dont know what they want.. but i won't be applying again. I'm not far off the money been offered and I dont work Bank holidays or weekends. For me it was all about job satisfaction and small bit of career change as im in my place over 20 years.

But look not meant to be.. best of luck to all who are successful and thanks to everyone that gave advice 🍻
