Annette Egan produced. At the rate Sarah covers different topics the LiveLine staff will be taking WRC cases for over work.

So we’ve had KT, PUBH, Colm and now Sarah. Was there another applicant? I can’t remember or is Sarah the last?

If RTE got the summer out of him, it would have gone a decent long way towards paying off the taxpayer's few bob.

Didn't hear all of it today, but was interested to see how Sarah McN would do. I thought it was a bit of an odd fit at times, she was caught on the hop when people kept talking sometimes and the like.

I'll say this though she's nowhere near as boring as Colm or KH. So she's immediately far better than either of those - I'll just stop listening to LL altogether if one of them gets the gig.

I don't think PBH is awful, he's far, far better than the other two, but I think he's better suited to something like what Claire Bryne does. Which is to say he's better than CB at it. So is Colm for that matter.

I see the fifth presenter will be Cormac O’Headhra. I haven’t listened to the event show himself and Sarah do but from the ads he sounds like the comedy while she’s the serious journalist. Maybe I have it wrong. It’ll be interesting to see how he does. I presume he’ll take over grin Sarah Monday fortnight.

I had a listen to the top of the show yesterday. Sarah tried a bit of call generation on a specific topic (Marriage breakdown with no money for people to move out of the family home etc.) It's a good idea in principle - LBC do it mostly every hour.

The problem with it is you've really got to stick to the topic for the hour or whatever to generate a flow of callers with different ideas. They (LBC) mostly start the hour with an expert for a bit of context and then over to the callers.

Unfortunately after setting it up she went to some former drug addict on something else. That's where I lost interest and turned it off.

I'm guessing such an approach will be a bit of a culture shock to the production people after years of Duffy jumping hither and yon on pet interests.

All that said, she sounded to me like the outstanding candidate for the gig, so far.

Unfortunately LL is a show where no experts are brought in. It could be something Sarah could do to make her mark on the show if she gets it. It sure beats an OAP who did nap evening course in a subject then calling in as the resident expert which is what we got in Joe’s day. I think she got a poor selection of items if yesterday’s show was what the team came up with. She did really well given a book promo by a recovered junkie, a know it all road knob and, bar the seagull I forget after that because the subjects were all so boring. That’s not her fault. If anything she has shown that the production team need a serious refresh along with the front of house.

a few very relevant points there,

Regardless of the presenter it’s the topics and callers who make the show, proper public interest relevant topics, with callers are effected by them. The producers also have a responsibility to put on a good show

Minister for Health was on earlier this year! https://www.rte.ie/radio/radio1/clips/22505702/ and don't forget on-call expert John in Cark

Ministers will only go on the TV/Radio if their spin doctors have already vetted and prepared answers to the questions. They could not risk being blind sided by the great unwashed.

Witness Simon Harris and that lady in the supermarket while he was out electioneering. 😁

That was very nearly career ending

You can be damn sure Jennifer Carroll-McNeill will be the last minister to go on Liveline if Sarah gets the chair.

Will any of the 60k pensioners who got a Class 1 Compliance Intervention letter from the Tax Man be on air?

It was covered on the Wireless this morning. The Revenue have written out to 60 thousand OAPs who in 2022 received both the State and private pensions and do not have their tax affairs in order.
