The Isak situation may also play a part. Pool pushing for him but Newcastle apparently won't let him go unless they have a replacement so the whole love triangle might get things moving faster. Plus it's 3 weeks til kick off so no time for farting around Mbeumo style.

Geez the Geordies will bloody hate us if both Mbeumo & Sesko turn them down for us lol.

Feel a bit sorry for Hojlund to be honest. He came in as the main number 9, with no backup and such a young age, with the youth of Garna/Amad behind him. Bruno of course as well. He had a tall mountain to climb.

If Sésko comes in he'll have foar more experienced league lads behind him in Cuhna and Mbeumo so should do ok, he'll have a far better starting point than Hojlund had anyway.

Still a lot of money for a young lad, but theirs no feckin striker's out there.

They don't make that fox in the box type anymore do they.

    Has a hamstring injury.

For those of you staying up.....Enjoy the dullness 😅

Edit : Fatigue not hamstring according to Amorim.

Hojlund got the slightest of touches for the goal but hopefully that'll boost his confidence.

Dorgu is a menace but I think he's going to be frustrating as his touch on the ball is so hit and miss. He pretty much fucked up his own goal build up with his second touch but the goalkeeper was poor in the end. It's gonna be a roller coaster with him but at least he's very threatening!

Amad pounced on some ping-pong in the box for the 3rd.

Leon somehow fell over fresh air running with the ball for the 4th but got away with it with Williams picking up the run and finishing from the left

Defensively, it seems Heaton was a bit busy judging by the highlight reel. He made a great reaction save.

Not much De Ligt could do about the o.g., he had to go for the clearance IMO.

Highlights are on Reddit. United seem to have put the highlight videos behind a paywall on the website 🙄

Especially when you consider that both Sesko and Rasmus are the same age. Sesko moved to Leipzig the same summer Hojlund came here. The only difference being Sesko was used as a squad player his first season while United put all their eggs in one basket hoping Rasmus could lead the line.

10 minute highlights are on the United app. Full game available for subscribers but the highlights are free.

Good movement there in the box and a nice header from Hojlund - the slightest of touches one - hopefully he can get a bit of momentum, I'm pleasantly surprised with that result Bournemouth had looked good against Everton so thought they would trouble us more

Watched the game there. Just a few observations.

Shaw was very good. The defensive line was higher than last season.

Team looks in a good place physically and seem to have a clear understanding of how they are meant to play.

I really like Dorgu. He's got a huge engine and is a very powerful runner. Expect a good season from him.

Very hard to judge preseason games as you just don't know what kind of training load players were under prior to the game but the small things were encouraging at least.

Most importantly, we're probably going to be crowned the Premier League (summer series) Champions!

3pts clear with a plus 4 goal difference. This must be the title charge that fella on Comms refers to?

The boss commented that he's "really happy with Rasmus, but I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market".

So Sesko/Watkins may still arrive, Rasmus may still go. I think if Rasmus goes we still need to bring in someone else. Can't be dumping all the pressure on Sesko the same way we did with Hojlund.

You'd know we played well, it's very quiet in here 😀

Would be great to have both of them.

Attack sorted for years to come hopefully.

True....ish 😂 Probably because most of us were out cold at the time!

Watched the highlights and from what I saw Casemiro was awful 🙈

Dorgu hopefully keeps the form going into the league.

Hojlund took his goal well, made space for himself and got just enough on the ball to put it past the keeper.

Leon bodying Billing then falling over and creating an assist was hilarious!

the game was at like 2am, and it was a pre-season friendly. How many people do you think stayed up to watch it on a school night!

    Its not a conspiracy!

I've not commmented on the game cause I have no idea about it. I've seen the goals and that is it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,943 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Come on Mitch, you know as well as I do that if we'd lost 2-1 or God forbid 4-1 the place would have been flooded whether people had seen the game or not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭Quags

I seen the goals and the movement for Hojlund was really good for his goal. Twitter is saying we looked well and seem to be more stronger. Its still pre season so will take it for what it is, LVG had us running amok and well we know how that went

Just saw a piece on The Athletic saying Isak is training with Real Sociedad while trying to force his move from Newcastle. While I can understand wanting to move clubs I hate this childish "you can't stop me" attitude in some players. And it highlights IMO how important Amorim & INEOS teams insistence on attitude being right and not just pure talent. Isak is a great great player, but i can't say I'd take him in a heartbeat after his behaviour in the past 2 weeks.

    hate players going on strike.

You signed a contract. You had the chance to negotiate a RC. You had the chance to leverage some control. You didn't take it. Shut up and get on with the job you are paid very well to do.

But, tbf, if he was doing this to forec a move to United, I would criticise and also hope it works so he ges his move.

IMO release clauses should be 100% standard in all contracts, and not the 1billion pounds rubbish you see in Spanish deals. Every player should have a known price, a club shouln;t be able to just say nope. (and I accept in such a scenario there would need to be variables and nuance to the value of a RC based on their contract length, wages, transfer fee in to the club etc etc etc).

Big shout out to like Shaw who made a seriously good run back and challenge near the start of the game and didn't come off injured after it.

It's only pre season but there's a remarkable difference between the players from last year to the players in pre season. They look interested and keen to do well. The big challenge will be doing that when we go a goal down in the Premier league.

But as far as pre season can go it's promising. Need to keep it going now.
