I know I'm being pedantic here however men don't play camogie so there's no men's option to compare with.

First they came for the socialists...

And whether or not the Leinster final goes ahead this weekend is still not known ..

But they do wear something different, something more comfortable. Camogie players are simply asking to have the same comfortable option that men have, that ladies footballers have also. It shouldn't lead to cancellations of matches, fines etc it's beyond archaic and totally a joke that players cannot have that simple option.

I get they have trained hard and want to play but its not helping by giving the Camogie association an out in the statement by saying they will change if forced instead of forcing the association into a postponement and make them look pathetic like they did with the Munster final.

Thing is, the group stages of the All-Ireland Championships are due to begin the following weekend, so if this Kilkenny v Wexford Leinster Final doesn't go ahead as planned, it can't happen until both sides are out of the All-Ireland.

And since realistically, these provincial championships are really just stand-alone warm-up competitions before the "real" championship begins (much like the Walsh Cup was in Leinster hurling), it'd have even less interest or relevance if the All-Ireland championship was already over.

At least with Cork v Waterford in the Munster Final, they're in the same group in the All-Ireland Championship, so there's the option of possibly doubling up their group meeting as the rescheduled Munster Final as well. But Kilkenny and Wexford are in different groups, so the same option doesn't exist with this one.

Cork and Waterford sharing Munster title. Absolutely meaningless competition in Camogie anyway unfortunately.

A disappointing effort. They sbould have stood with Cork and Waterford and show a united front

Well, Special Congress takes place this evening….

Does anyone have the actual wording of the motion to go before the delegates?

And ideally, also the wording of the motions that were defeated last year, so we can see what exactly is different now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭davetherave

Last year there were two different motions, one to add shorts to the options of skirt and skirt, (Meath and GB) another to only have shorts.(Kerry and Tipp)

Thanks. But am guessing you don't have the wording of tonight's motion?

I can't find it online anywhere. I believe it's to allow for the choice of skorts or shorts, and therefore possibly even exactly the same as the Meath & GB motions from last year. It'll be interesting to see how it goes anyway….

Nothing would surprise me with camogie congress..

I think it's safe to assume that they were embarrassed into this and would absolutely prefer if skorts were still the only option.

You’ll probably find there’ll be people out there keeping stats on who’s wearing what.

A good end to the saga. Push forward now with a higher involvement of women in all sports.

Well, after all that kerfuffle, seems the Wexford players chose to wear skorts in their match against Clare last Saturday -

I know the fight was all about having the choice of what to wear, but makes you wonder about that GPA survey that was carried out….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭The White Feather

The Cork U23 team that beat Kilkenny played with skorts too whereas Kilkenny played with shorts. But this was because the Cork team had some issue with the supplier and they didn't have shorts ready in time. Maybe Wexford had the same issue!

The Wexford team all wore shorts when taking to the field against Kilkenny for their Leinster Final a week earlier, and only changed into skorts "under protest" when instructed to do so.

And Camogie Association President Brian Molloy said that because of possible supply issues, they'd give teams until 1st July to comply with the part of the rule that shorts must have the Camogie Association crest on them. So seems there'd have been nothing wrong with Wexford using the same shorts they wore for the warm-up for that earlier match:

Now, don't get me wrong. It's still great that players have the choice. My main point here is that not for the first time, there has to be some doubt cast over how the GPA portrays the findings of a player survey.

The Sunday Game had maybe 90 seconds of Cork hammering Limerick, shown near the end of the programme. But overall, yes, it's normal service has resumed….

2025 Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship quarter-finals:

Waterford vs Clare, 2:30pm, 5th July (followed by Cork vs Dublin in hurling at 5pm)

Tipperary vs Kilkenny, 1:30pm, 6th July (followed by Kilkenny vs Tipperary in hurling at 4pm)

Cork and Galway through to the semifinals

Waterford and Tipp handy wins in those 1/4 finals

Dublin prob feel hard done by with the Group draw.

Wexford, Clare, Limerick were a poor opposition for Cork and Tipp

Senior should only be 8 teams

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭Deiselurker

There is a big gap between the top 5 in camogie and the rest so 8 teams would make more sense instead of a lot of 1 sided games. Clare heavily beaten today but into the quarter final. Poor Derry had a terrible time at senior this year and Wexford and Limerick well off the pace too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,202 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

    Ya

    In reality it goes

    Cork by a mile

    Galway… Tipp/Waterford

    Kilkenny

    Dublin

The rest a mile off then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,407 ✭✭✭✭greenspurs

Terrible decision to rule out the Kk goal and give a peno !! Really bad ....

2 points up at the time , that woukd have made it 5 !! Different game thdn.

(Shocking peno too, should have scored and put them up by 5 too)....

Neither Waterford or Tipp will bother Cork or Galway...

I am a Kerryman living in Cork and I have been trying to bring my very-much-Cork 4yo daughter to a big championship match.

It hasn't been possible yet --- I very much had in mind a GAA match --- but the camogie AI is now possible (and maybe I can cheer on the Kerry camogie team in the second half).

Now... my question is... how does the day work for a Cork camogie fan. There are well-worn patterns for the Kerry GAA football fan but is there any such craic for camogie (or is it just "go to the stadium")?

We will be parking at a Dart station on the northside and driving up and down on the day.

Unfortunately, it's just a case of go to the stadium ...
