State of that and the street. Stereotypical Irish.

Celebration of Kerry winning All Ireland. Not allowed to celebrate? Have you BEEN to America or England after a local team winning a match? To Spain, to Argentina, Italy, Germany? Have you been to those places after a local team LOSING a match?

Did they wreck a stadium? Did they riot? Did they loot? Did they beat up other team supporters?

I already said the Garda messed up, did you read that? He had no clue who the man was or how old he was, all he saw was a boozy crowd, bottles and cans everywhere, and a man roaring and shouting with his hands up in the air. The old guy didn’t stumble, he didn’t hit his head off the kerb, and he wasn’t killed. That’s all hyperbole you’re adding for effect.

Yeah, again, I said the Garda messed up. It was a fast moving fluid situation with a lot of alcohol, some illegality, people acting silly. It's not often you see men of that age acting like that.

the guard was 100% in the wrong, totally unnecessary what he did

That's more silly nonsense. A "fast moving fluid situation" 😂

A Garda was walking by Healy-Rae and inexplicably got a rush of blood to the head and pushed him. It was that simple. It was that stupid.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

He's obviously a very poor garda then if he is unable to estimate the age of someone right in front of him in broad daylight. I wouldn't want him to be giving witness evidence in court.

Where did I say he fell? Did you miss the part where I said 'if'?

There was a risk an old man that age could fall after a shove like that and that garda is either too stupid or doesn't care about that risk. Neither a good look for a Garda.

It was a fast moving fluid situation with a lot of alcohol

If a Garda is unable to tell the difference between a bunch of folk up in Dublin obviously there for a good time, and a potentially fast moving situation (fast moving into what? A riot?), then maybe he chose the wrong career.

Also, if it had been a fast moving situation, that he had called that correctly, what he did was at best totally ineffectual; and at worst could have proved his 'fast moving' judgment correct by provoking the trouble he's supposed to try to prevent.

the person in the video is DHR not MHR.

Pardon me please ! . Is it okay if I exclude myself from your raving generalisations. I have reached my 67th year on our little planet and thankfully I haven’t yet met or wanted to punch any “ power tripping Garda “

    Ahhh Ok. My mistake.

Hardly matters really, in terms of the discussion. They are both cute Kerry sleveeens. But my main point still stands… the Garda was well out of order.

Just FYI, Danny Healy Rae doesn't drink, he is a teetotaller and has been all his life.

Lower angle video angle on tick-tock and the guard definitely looking for trouble. Doesn’t seem to have any control of what’s going on .. you can nearly see him wanting DHR to go further.. different situation and different crowd that could have ended badly..

That’s great, and nice to see him enjoying the capital. I’m just saying, if the roles were reversed and it was a pack of Dubliners on the streets of Killorglin boozing, littering and carrying on, the Gardai would be applauded for coming down hard on them. We see it all the time, Irish people love heavy‑handed tactics when it’s the French Gendarmerie or some other police force doing it. They're just selective when it comes to home!

If you take out the fact that the man involved was DHR (which seems to be clouding some people's judgement), this is a Guard pushing an elderly man and then a woman, neither of whom appeared to be doing anything illegal, not to mention threatening. If this was some random grandad, I doubt anyone would be defending the Guard. Very poor behaviour, and definitely a sign this guy needs to be reminded what his role as a Garda is. If this is what he's willing to do in broad daylight in front of lots of people with camera phones, I wonder what his behaviour in a dark sidestreet or the back of a Garda van would be? I doubt it would improve.

All Ireland final day, people out enjoying the craic and atmosphere, everyone laughing and full of the joys, an older man (who had no drink on him!) encouraging the crowd to cheer? I don't see anything wrong with that. How does one man in his seventies equate to a pack of Dubliners on the streets of Killorglin causing havoc….. littering and "carrying on"? There is litter after any big event anywhere, I hate it but its a fact of life, people litter.

I live a few miles from Killorglin and in a few weeks we have the Puck Fair. There will be mighty craic, atmosphere, shouting, dancing and cheering. There will be drinking and litter too. A day later the litter will be cleaned. What is your problem with this?

Danny Healy Rae is not someone I vote for but he was doing absolutely nothing wrong and that Garda needs to be spoken to and his behaviour reprimanded!

I’ve said a few times now that the Garda was out of order, we’re all in agreement on that.
However, my point still stands: if the dynamic were reversed, as I mentioned before, the Garda would be applauded. That’s my belief, whether you like it or not.

On "heavy handed tactics" by the police, they can be pretty strong on that in the UK. The recent case relating to the serious assault of police officers at Manchester Airport, and resulting in convictions, hasn't absolved the officers from scrutiny for how they handled it.

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/31/armed-police-could-face-sack-over-manchester-airport-attack/

During the attack, Pc Cook discharged her Taser, and mobile phone footage appeared to show Pc Marsden kicking and stamping on Amaaz during the arrest.

The Crown Prosecution Service examined the officers’ actions and concluded they should face no further action, but because disciplinary offences are based on the civil test, they could still end up losing their jobs.

Though, whatever about the guy kicking and stamping (which did look pretty bad), discharging a Taser in that situation seems pretty reasonable.

It's not a belief. It's a very very silly point with no evidence or rationale whatsoever. Maybe when the All Ireland final is held in Kilorglin and Dublin win, you will prove us all wrong when we cheer a Garda pushing an old teetotal Dublin fan. In the meantime, stop digging and fix that chip on your shoulder. Yesterday you were calling it a "fast moving fluid situation" ffs 😂

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Get a grip of yourself, stop digging holes and admit you're in the wrong trying to justify that guard by making up some stupid whataboutery scene down in Killorglin and fast moving fluid scenarios.

Typical small man syndrome with a uniform. A great reason not to have an armed police force

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,021 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

I normally defend the Gardai and get they can have a tough job.

However when you see a situation like this it shows you how something could get out of hand.

Even tough I wouldn't be his biggest fan.

Danny dealt with the situation fairly well because some must have had a bit of a wobble.

Will the Garda apologise? He might not have been a Kerry fan 😄 from the video footage he was wrong (the Garda)

You're trying to imply that MHR was in some way in the wrong. The Garda intentionally went out of his way to escalate a situation, that's pretty stupid to say the least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,823 ✭✭✭✭John_Rambo

While I agree with you about the Garda being wrong, I've said it over and over again on the thread I don't agree with you regarding Michael Healy Rae being wrong. I never said that. Read my post again.

IF people were rioting in the street and he did that, then yes, we would applaud him for attempting to restore order. God knows everyone enjoyed the English hooligans getting controlled in 1995 in Landsdowne. They got everything they deserved.

IF aliens attacked. IF there was looting. IF there was an assault. IF there was danger to innocents. IF there was a call for such an action then it would be applauded. IF IF IF IF IF IF IF!!!!

But the fact of the matter is: It WASN'T an IF. It WASN'T 1990's English football hooligans. It WASN'T Martians. And the plain fact was, it wasn't called for and, in other circumstances, it COULD have been the trigger for something much uglier.

One can IF all they like but it was a non-violent, non-aggressive celebratory gathering. Maybe it was loud. So? It's a celebration. Maybe there was litter. So? Was there no litter before? Is that worthy of such a reaction upon a person not involved?

The crowd showed much more restraint than the cop
