Probably too late now but one thing I'd suggest trying would be the Chargemap app. It seems to work with a lot of the chargers in France and it's what I've used before

Another trick is to try holding the plug in while it's starting the charger. The plugs are so heavy they can cause the communication pins near the top to disconnect during the handshake

Once the charger has started you can let go

Its also worth checking your charger port and the plug for any stones or debris that might cause it to not be fully connected. I had a charge fail in the Leaf years ago because there was a stone stuck in the Chademo plug

You beat me too it 😉

Expected to be announced late 2026 with deliveries from 2027

Seems it'll still be MEB based so don't expect a massive leap in technology. Might squeeze some extra capacity into the battery and some extra power or charging speed

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the styling, will it be more conventional VW like a Tiguan

I wonder if there's any possibility of a version on the longer wheelbase of the ID.7 with 7 seats. Might be a good electric counterpart to the Tiguan All-space (although I think that got discontinued)

Is there anyway to get the car to default to ECO mode ? Mind always goes to comfort, 251 reg.

They all default to comfort in the VW group cars. So you'll need to change each time. Could be solved by a software update at some stage if VW so wished.

Most people want to know how to default it to sport!

Some other brands will go back to last used mode each time turned on

Would make more sense to default to previous mode used to be honest.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the motor in the newer model. It feels like a much smoother driving experience. It also seems a bit more refined when slowing if the normal brakes kick in from the drum ones. I'd often notice the change previously but haven't noticed it in the new one yet.

Got a Pro Plus yesterday in Frank Keane.
Pleasant surprise as i thought Ayvens had a Pro coming.
The power tailgate works well and the blindspot is new for me.
Liking it so far. It's definitely a change from a 3.0 diesel but in fairness VW have made it all very self explanatory.

Any way to turn off the screen altogether while still listening to music?

I like the interface but it's very busy for driving all the time. Best i can do is put it to media and leave at that.
Always been a fan of turning off the screen on previous cars for long drives

    Yes, pretty much

I think the ID.6 has some different components but the basic idea is the same

Just got the notification for the 3.8 update

Not much in it, preparation for the 2G network shutdown is the headline item

Days it'll take 2 hours and the car can't be used. I'm very reluctant to go ahead after the disaster of the last one, but I'm also concerned about the car losing connectivity

Maybe I'll just park it at the VW garage before applying the update

Just wondering has anyone replaced the front shocks on their ID.4 yet and if yes what mileage did they need to be replaced at?

Just noticed some oil leaking from my front left shock at 154k and I'm wondering is this mileage about right for replacing front shocks.

Went through fine for my ID.4 1st. Had to re-download some of the apps (shop/charging) after it installed which took a few minutes, but otherwise all good.

Thanks, I'll give it a go on mine but not today, I need the car for the weekend

The 4G signal is only 2 bars in my area so I might hunt around for a better spot

I've also order a 12v battery monitor as I want to ensure the battery is topped up before the update. Last time the update got stuck and drained the whole battery

I’m a regular contributor on here and on my second ID4 but just had to say I’m on my hols at the moment and have a BYD Seal as a rental car, my goodness all, before you buy your next ID4 give it a bit of consideration, it’s an absolute beauty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,434 ✭✭✭sk8board

if you’re just comparing EV’s, then yes definitely - but their usage and price will be a different matter.

The ID4 is a do’er of all and master of none, which is its biggest selling point :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,368 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

They are pretty polarised vehicle segments. Unlikely to be anyone cross shopping between a Seal and an ID4 in reality, well other than a buyer who just wants "something" or "anything" - which in fairness is a lot of modern EV buyers I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,434 ✭✭✭sk8board

totally. We’re a bit OT, but a second hand Seal is about the same price as e.g an i4, late €30’s - id probably cross-shop both of those alright.

Ran it yesterday evening. Failed. Warning on the display saying to visit the workshop. Consistency as always VW. Nice one.

The spotify app seems to crash a lot for me, I tap the icon and just see the dots and logo and that never ends - only exiting the car for 15min+ resets the system, is there any other way ?

There seem to be a change in the VW app ( for android anyway that I have ). I can see the charging info again ! – it disappeared after the 2 year subscription expired

Hi all. I was of those who bought on PCP in 2023 shortly before the €10k was slashed off the prices so have been very concerned about where I stand. Do you think there is merit in changing early?, I have 8 months left until the end of the term. I was told by 2 separate dealerships on Friday that VW have measures in place to try and stop customers like myself from leaving them with sweeteners to renew instead of handing the keys in. I thought I would be left with no choice but to hand the car back as the balloon payment is very high, I also thought that renewing PCP as I’m basically in negative equity would be next to impossible as I there would be zero deposit against my car (assumed I’d have to find about €13k. However I’ve been given an option now to add €5k to keep the repayments almost the same to change now to a pro plus. The PCP rate is down to 0.9% for July only. Also without adding the €5k monthly payments would go up by €180 which I’m not keen on. The spec on the new car is much better than my pro life, balloon payment on the new deal down to €20k which would be more attractive in 3 years than the current €26k. Should I go now or wait and see what’s on the table at the end of the term. Apologies for the length of this!! Confused.com!

In was in your position a couple of months ago… with the added bonus of that I had 70,000k on my 2.5 year old GTX so I got hit with that as well. Trade in was crap and I ended up paying €150 extra a month….they did give me some help (I think it was €2000) to help reduce payments. I got shafted but I didn't take it personal as I think we were the victims at the time of crazy inflation and then a price war with Tesla.

How I justified it was you wont get cheaper motoring than driving an EV…imaging paying €100 a week for diesel on top of car payments for that car. I went with the added payments as I didn't have the cash and the PCP rate is practically cash anyway

What I will say the newer Id4 is MILES better than the first one…. and its down primarily the Infotainment system, you can actually use it without taring your hair out..it just feels nicer. Also the Pro Plus has 290 bhp so has plenty of get up and go. Feels almost like the GTX, but without the 4 wheel drive. Range is crazy good also in the newer ones, maybe I driving it more efficiently though.

Feedback on the move must have been atrocious. Also you could get around the change by just deleting your profile on the car and re-registering with a new email address which gives you another two-year free subscription …
