That’s the way I see it, I see Witiz being deployed that bit further forward but still giving the freedom to drop deep or go wide. He was at times an old school No.10 at BL, but I don’t see that role available at Liverpool. The energy and legs of Szobalazi is still required. I think you need to have both on the pitch.

The team that Ottoman has laid out above, is how I think Liverpool will look eventually. Maybe not straightaway, but that will be the target. Jones will continue his back up role for MacAllister and Szoboszlai. Gravenberch will play much deeper, it will almost be a back 3 at times.

No harm in any of the midfielders (including Wirtz) sitting out games/being rotated as we saw from the end of last season the midfield, Gravenberch in particular was absolutely spent come the seasons end as we had no options to rotate.

Would a midfield diamond work best now that we have 2 energetic attacking fullbacks? Grav at 6, Dom and Mac the two 8s and Wirtz at the 10. Then Gakpo/Ekitaike + Salah upfront

Ekitike is going into a dressing room with players who have just won the league and have a hell of a lot more medals as well.

VVD won't take any of his s*** (if indeed there is any).

He's going into a much better team where hopefully he will shine.

    That bag though, ffs.

Let's be honest, he wasn't on anybodies radar until his name popped up this summer.

That is simply not true. I posted in early February that Liverpool had approached Frankfurt about signing him in the January transfer window. In all likelihood had Man City not signed Marmoush the same week, Nunez would have moved to Al Nassr and Liverpool signed Ekitike as his replacement.

If you had been paying attention there were a number of reports linking him with a summer move to Liverpool during the second half of the season.

That would work either, TBH, I think both Wirtz and Ekitike will swap roles throughout games. Ekitike is very good a coming deep and holding getting on the ball, its actually much more his strength than his finishing, which is only average. Whereas Wirtz is actually quite clinical when giving the chance, he just operates too far from goals at times for BL.

You would have to assume that with the nerds in charge that they have looked into the analytics and his character background and assessed him to be a right fit for us. I remember there was some preconceived opinions of players in the past that turned out to be false. Mane was a streaky player, Shaqiri would disrupt the dressing room, etc. You would expect Edwards and Hughes to have done the leg work where as Nunez was more of a Klopp signing.

To be honest next season as long as he scores most of the chances he should, he will be OK. With Salah, Wirtz, flyers on the wings, there should be lots of chances. If he has the personality to not let missed chances affect him, he should do well imo.

You are correct, I dont pay attention to speculation.

    I'll try harder.

What do you reckon on him as a player?

    Heck Ahhh Tech EEEEEEEEEE

Is how those on radio are saying his name. Is it correct, no idea.

    Rodrygo in Diaz out

Would Rodrygo be a Salah replacement in time

A lot can happen between now and the start of the season, but injuries aside, I think it's fairly easy to pick 9 of our starting XI. Not sure who'll get the start between Bradley and Frimpong, but I'm sure they will rotate plenty. Then the key one is whether Szobo starts (as part of a midfield 4) or Ekitike starts (keeping similar formation to last year, albeit Wirtz doing a different job to Dom). Gakpo is a nailed on starter for the first league game of the season imo.

Shame to lose Diaz, he always chipped in, always hovering around that middle line of being

    Poor—-Good—- Great—- World Class

Consistently useful every several games, same as Gakpo. If one is not at it, one is. Great sharing of roles.

Diaz reminds me of Coutinho , as in flashes of brilliance and then goes missing alot

wouldn't be sad if he goes , just hope it's for the right funds and we get a good replacement

Seeing as his name is a palindrome it should be pronounced the same backwards and forwards so I would say it's not correct.

A bit like pronouncing Ojo OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOjo.

One of the presenters on The Anfield Wrap was pronouncing it as Eckie Teckie to other day.

I honestly would have Gravenberch down as the first name on the team sheet. By far our best option as a holding midfielder.

September games being moved, including the home derby...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,630 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

That derby follows a CL game. Hopefully a home one on the Tuesday, for us!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,446 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Could even be a Thursday night CL game that week which would be weird! (And would certainly move the derby)

they are gonna try for Isak too. Madness

Ian Doyle is saying we see him as a versatile forward so maybe they see him as back up to Gakpo and CF while Diaz moves on?

    The tl,dr AI version

Here are five key bullet points summarizing the article:

    • Liverpool win race for Ekitike: Despite serious interest from Newcastle, Chelsea, and Manchester United, Hugo Ekitike chose Liverpool, signing a six-year deal from Eintracht Frankfurt that could reach £79m, pushing Liverpool’s summer spending near £300m.
    • Long-term interest and data-driven decision: Liverpool tracked Ekitike since his time at Reims, and formal pursuit began in January. Led by director of research Will Spearman, the club prioritized underlying metrics over raw stats, believing Ekitike’s potential rivals that of Mbappe and Haaland at a similar age.
    • Frankfurt's strategic sale: Frankfurt initially wanted to keep Ekitike another year for further development, but Liverpool's structured offer (initially rejected, then accepted with bonuses) met the club’s rigid €100m valuation, consistent with their successful high-value player sales strategy.
    • Newcastle and Manchester United missed out: Newcastle made the first formal bid and believed they were close, while Manchester United explored a late move. However, Ekitike’s clear preference for Liverpool and Arne Slot’s direct pitch sealed the deal.
    • Ekitike fills a critical need at Anfield: With Jota’s tragic passing and Nunez underperforming, Liverpool prioritized a new No 9. Ekitike joins an elite attack alongside Wirtz, Salah, Gakpo, and Diaz, viewed as a long-term solution who could become one of the world’s top strikers.

It probably took you longer to copy and paste the text into Chat GPT and repaste the reply here than it would have taken to just read the thing.

Few reports coming out now that Konate has been offered a new contract.

I still have a feeling he’ll sign eventually. The fact they’ve had a few back and forth’s at this stage is some indication he’s open to negotiation, and that the difference in terms is actually negotiable.

I know when it was mcgarrys it was a Liverpool supporters club. Worth a visit when a game is on. I also think a supporters branch meet in the clonsilla inn at times, but I've never been.
