The coffee subscription thread

On the hunt for a new subscription. I usually go for 6 month subs, so here's the current lay of the land for those:

Red Strand Coffee: €170 (great for the coffee lover with patience)

Stone Valley: €40 per month so €240

    Ground State: €210

Groundwork Celbridge: €210 (or just €35 delivered for 1kg of some of their beans without sub as recommended above)

    West Cork: €210

    Bell Lane: €202.50

Cloudpicker: don't seem to do a sub with variation for blends, only the same blend for x months.

Bear Market: don't seem to do a sub with variation for blends, only the same blend for x months.

I'm leaning towards Ground State and Groundworks. May order a kg of groundworks and see before deciding since now difference in price anyway.

Sorry but what does this mean exactly? Are they slow shipping?

Bear market do a rotating roasters choice with different bean each month (espresso &filter options) - 40 per month cancel anytime - 20 euro for the 500g option

Groundwork sub is 30 euro per month - so 180 for 6 months

Ah it's all above in the thread there - a few of us are just coming out of a subscription with them. Lovely coffee, but completely unpredictable delivery dates. Sometime a week late, other times a month late. I'd absolutely be signing up for another 6 months if they could sort their deliveries out so they arrived in the 1st week of the month even, but I probably spent more time wondering where it was and chasing for an update than anything.

Ah I couldn't see it, and still can't actually when I go back and check it now. They have a step by step subscription picker thing that only seems to give these 3 options:

Maybe I'm missing it somewhere? As a sidenote, I'm not gone on these step by step things to help you along. I know they're trying to be helpful, but I find them a bit annoying. Cloudpicker do one too I think.

Ah sorry Bawn - the rotating option is only available for filter, not espresso! My mistake as I only get filter single origins. I agree - hate those plan things without the info up front :(

Ya it's a shame - I'd have no interest in the same coffee every month unfortunately. You mentioned above Groundwork was 30 per month - are you seeing that somewhere? I can only see €35 per month on the site unless you can collect yourself maybe.

Still seeing 35 here (including shipping) - just want to make sure I'm not missing something if it's there for cheaper than I can see it 🙂

Hmm I have never been charged shipping for my sub - maybe it is new, sorry!

I just signed up for the Groundwork subscription - thanks for mentioning them in the thread, otherwise I don't think I'd have become aware of them.

We go through about a kilo a fortnight.

I've opted for two 1kg bags per month, and the subscription charge was €56, shipping included.

(Since it seems to be causing confusion above— no shipping cost was indicated, it was 0.00 when I checked out)

The price per kilo is lower than I expected, I was budgeting around €35 per kilo, shipping included, so I'm surprised at the saving here. Reminds me of Dreambeans in Louth's old pricing.

I liked the fact that it's brewers choice, each month, and also seems to be possible cancel rather than being locked in, so … Yeah, I'll give it a whirl.

That's actually great value for 2kg. We're on a 1kg subscription with them and always run out, then panic buy something to fill the gap. 1kg is 35 including shipping, so I might just bump it up to 2kg.

Both very happy with their beans then I presume? I must give them a try.

Tried Ground State a couple of months ago but was thoroughly unimpressed.

How did you get on with these? I'm considering giving them a go. Liking the description of their Costa Rican Los Santos but sometimes these can be way off.

First month was a really nice ethiopian. Came with a little note on the producer. Looking forward to seeing what August brings.

I have a groundwork sub. Coffee is decent. I would say nothing special or remarkable. I prefer West Coast Coffee and some others personally but it's more expensive.

I will say the delivery and service is top notch and comes like clockwork when it's meant to. If anyone else has experienced the red strand subscription timing (or lack thereof!) and delays you will also appreciate this!

I'd second that it's decent coffee, not great coffee. I don't think you will get a KG of WCC or 3fe for close to 40 euro though.

I ended my sub as they are impossible to contact and don't seem to respond to emails, that's just my experience though.

But this is the subscription thread and WCC 12 mnth 1kg sub is below 40e/kg at 395e.

TBF though you do have to pay up front for that rate which may not work for everyone - groundwork is monthly and cancel any time, even after one month if you don't like it

But yeah might go back to WCC soon - had one before but fancied a change

This years monthly picks have been excellent IMHO. They even have me liking brazilian beans now! Delivery date and roasting date are on point always.
