I got this sorted by emailing the open. Was some issue with thursday park and ride on their platform.

Do you book park and ride on the Open app or somewhere else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 799 ✭✭✭mistermatthew

I booked them on the website: https://www.theopen.com/ticketbuilder/buy-parking-2025?checkoutConfig=22E51267-6B01-49DF-B8AD-C29A552BFDF3#/select-days

It then added the park and ride ticke to my app with my day ticket.

Is there any option to get dropped off close to the course or is it just park/ride?

It's not a stupid question. They could legitimately charge per person since they have to lay on buses to transport drivers and passengers to the event. But it's a flat charge on Thu-Sun of £17 per car.

I wonder did they mess up by only laying on enough buses to shuttle drivers i.e. one bus seat per booked car? Saw photos of big queues for transport at some of the car parks.

    No it's a pretty stupid.

If you charged per person then you would be penalizing car sharing.…"Let's split the cost of parking between the 4 of us and sure we will take your car....ah no point as they charge per person so might as well take 4 separate cars since that could be more convenient for us anyways as some might want to leave before others etc etc.

Anyone follow the McIlroy or Lowry groups today? Any tips? I imagine following them from the 1st hole would be tough in terms of getting to see many of there shots.

I was thinking of a flat charge for car+driver and a small supplement for each passenger. The organisers would then have a good idea how many people would need to be shuttled from each P+R. More passengers means they need more shuttle buses. Which cost money.

As things stand, they have no clue how many passengers will need to be transported to the event.

How does that help? Cars will be arriving at unpredictable times. Are the buses going to be synced with them?

Anyone know of any buses going from Dublin area?
Heading tomorrow and plan to drive but bus isn’t a bad ideas considering the week I’ve had!

Any junior tickets going for tomorrow. I'm heading but my sports mad son is looking to come too!

I'd be interested in this as well. Are there lots of spaces in the park and ride and is there a big wait for a bus when you get there? Also is there a big wait for a bus to go back to the park and ride once the golf is finished?

I was there Wednesday & Thursday and used the park and ride from Rugby Avenue playing fields in Coleraine. Buses ran every 5-10 mins so there was no hanging around. Journey to Portrush another 15 mins max. We stayed in Randalstown and travelled up through Belfast to get there. I'd imagine it would be your best route. Turn your sat nav off once you hit Ballymena/Ballymoney and follow the signs. I have to say it's very well organised.

I was there yesterday (Thursday). We arrived into Coleraine from the west (Derry/Limavady direction) and the signs directed us to the P&R at the University of Ulster campus (this was around 9.30am).

Overall it was very smooth. Loads of marshalls to direct us to the car park. No queuing for the bus. It was filled very quickly and departed very quickly. Maybe a 10 minute journey to Portrush. Then maybe a five minute walk to the course entrance.

We got the bus back at around 9.30pm. We had to queue for about 10 minutes for an empty bus to arrive and to get on it. Another empty bus had arrived when we were getting on ours. 10 minutes then back to the P&R. Easy to get out of the car park and back on the road.

I had read reports online that a different P&R was a bit of a mess on the practice days, but our experience was fantastic
