Cork 4th on the roll of honour in Football due to 7 wins and 16 times as runner up. Tipp have 4 wins and Mayo 3!

I cant really remember much about 1990 as was only 6 but I remember it being a very warm day.

I remember crying on way out of Croker in 1992 and my dad killing me for it ha.

I still fondly remember 1999 the most. 9 years back then was considered a famine. I was there in 2004 and 2005. I actually missed 2003 final as my leg was in a cast and missed 2006 as was starting a job abroad after I just finished college.

Wasn't there in 2013 or 21 defeats. Have been to 2010 and 2018 finals in Hurling.

I'm praying we finally get over line this Sunday. I'm nervous enough about it. Although that might not be bad thing cause I was more confident last year.

I am of a similar age to you. I can't remember 1990. I can remember 1992 losing to Kilkenny and 1993 losing to Derry in the Football. I remember 1999 very well and 2024 and 2005. I was in Dublin in 2005 and walking out of the game afterwards taking it for granted that these days would happen every few years. If you told me that day that Cork wouldnt win an All Ireland again for 20+ years in hurling I would have thought you were on something. Unbelievable to think that amount of time has passed and we have lost 4 All Irelands in the process. I'm nervous about Sunday too. I know Cork are good enough but they need to perform to their finest and not be off par. We have been off par in 2006 2013, 2021 and 2024. Hopefully they can get over the line this time around and end that long famine.

Agree with you about July all Ireland. Just so hard to get used to it. Even the 2 weeks build up is very short. Only really get going Tuesday or Wednesday after the football semi finals have been discussed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,817 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

I find the build up fascinating this year. Apart from the novelty of a Cork Tipp final the expectations appear to differ. I know some Tipp supporters who won't be there because they had their holidays booked for this time which shows how confident they were about this year. I'm not sure which is the best way to feel going into the match, hapy to have made it or feeling nothing but a win will do. While there will be disappointment for whichever side loses I feel Cork may feel it worse but having said that I see little between the sides and hope all players will be satisfied with their performance and may the best team win.

I’m not as much nervous about anything as just accepting that this is what supporting Cork is like! Ups and downs and stress. It’s never easy but at least we’re in the mix.

I still remember being on the hill in 2004 with my father. Game was neck and neck with 3/4’s of it gone and then Cork kicked on and you could actually relax with 5 mins to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭lukin

I don't think we will be home and hosed with 5 mins. to go this time. If we do win it it will be like the AI semi v Limerick last year. Hanging on to a one or two point lead for dear life while Tipp throw the kitchen sink at us.

I agree, if anything the most likely scanerio if we win is that we could be hanging on for dear life in the mins coming up to the end. That would be hell but would take a 1 point win if we are on the right side of the result. Tipp will give it their all and wont make it easy for us. We need to be on our game totally this time around. The weight of history is certainly going to play a factor as well whether people believe it or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

That would be a nice feeling it we were a good few up with mins to go but very unlikely that be the case.

We had draw last Friday night

    I didn't come out unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    All similar vintage

I remember Dad going to 1992 and 1993 finals

99 was my first hurling final

Delighted getting soaked up the hill with paper hat dye running

    2003 we should have won

Put things right after losing Munster in 2004

Always felt we would win 2005

2006 not prepared at all for long grass and swarm tackling

Should have stole 2013 first day out

    Replay bloody SOD

2018 still a sore one in my house with wife being Limerick

    2021 even worse

We really should have won last year

Tony Kelly always has one good game a year

    Unfortunately it's usually against us

Hopefully lads will have learnt from last year and esp the 2018 under 21 final loss

We had better hurlers but were outworked by a Liam Cahill team

Can't allow that to happen on Sunday

Just out of interest when was the last time Tipp beat Cork in championship match? I read on the proc forum that we have beaten them six times in a row, not sure if that is true. I don't know if it is a good or a bad thing we have such a good recent record against them. They are due a win against us although I know it doesn't work like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭thefa

@KrustyUCC There was that maybe 90 seconds in the 2013 final when it was ours and it hadn’t really looked like it for any of the 70 mins. Clare goalie getting chased over the sideline with our sideline well in their half. I don’t debate the additional 20-30 seconds, it was what it was but we should have won it from that situation. That corner back just peeling off into free space still hurts.

    2020 Tipp 2-18 Cork 1-17

    2021 no match

    2022 Cork 3-30 Tipp 1-24

    2023 Cork 4-19 Tipp 2-25

    2024 Cork 4-30 Tipp 1-21

    2025 Cork 4-27 Tipp 0-24

    2025 Final ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

I said we should have stole it and it would have been a steal

Bit more cuteness with line ball at end

    Play it into corner

    Foul the ball

    Waste time

Instead Moylan went for glory and put it wide

Still if we were good enough we would have won the puck out

    Yes still hurts

Even more so as I was going out with a Clare girl at the time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

That All Ireland still comes back to haunt us. A small bit of cuteness and we would have got over the line. That All Ireland and the 2024 one were hard takes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,100 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

    Yes that's it cuteness

I was at 2022 final and Limerick wasted about 2 mins with ball in corner after a line ball

I was watching a newstalk interview with Liam Cahill. He is confident his players can shut down our big players. I hope to god Pat Ryan is ready for anything they throw at us because they will go all out to upset the odds I feel.

I spoke about how we need our forwards to fire but the backs need to be on top of their game as well. We can't afford to concede any sloppy goals which i felt we did in last year's final.

I've spoken myself at times about the history of Cork hurling, but Tipperary have a storied history themselves although in the modern game history is not as big a factor as it once was imo. It's all about being good enough on the day. If this Cork team strikes form they'll be hard to beat. It's time for a new generation of Cork hurlers to write themselves into history this Sunday. Up Cork!🔴⚪

I felt like at least 2/3rds of the starting 15 last year was not near their best for the final.

From midfield up, big players like Fitzgibbon, Barrett, Dalton, Connolly & Hoggie were kept relatively quiet.

We know the backs can be a bit hit & miss and I agree a couple of those goals shouldn’t have been allowed get that far.

All well and good doing it against Dublin and a couple of Munster games. Hope it’s fuel to the fire for more big performances this time around.

I'm not into any of that premonition or psychic stuff but as we approach Sunday I'm getting that same strange feeling of confidence that I got when we were facing Kilkenny in 2010! Strange isn't it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 677 ✭✭✭Pablo Escobar

Personally I’m hoping it’s more like the feeling you got last week before our semi final with Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

Good nice to be confident going into the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,094 ✭✭✭golfball37

All the downplay talk here lads . This match whilst a great on paper rivalry for the neutral will be over after five minutes . The same if Kilkenny reached the final instead of Tipperary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,246 ✭✭✭Seadin

Finals rearly follow the script. Nobody in Cork especially the proper supporters are taking Tipp for granted. We know what they can do. We are very cautious of them to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,501 ✭✭✭Straight Talker

Well i'm feeling the same about Cork actually. I felt the same in 2004 as well. I guess Sunday will tell which one of us is right! I just think Cork like in 2004 have been a team on a mission all year. I expect a tough game and Cork to prevail by a couple of points in the end.

In a way there's just as much pressure on Tipp as there is Cork to an extent. This is the one Cork and Tipp game that none of us wants to lose!
