    Bring your brolly.

    Bring your waterproofs

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are looking very poor.

Sunday is teetering on "ok" to "dreadful" - currently really dreadful conditions for Leinster, but could easily move north.

Best advice is to keep a close eye on the weather and leave the sunscreen at home. You won't need it.

Certainly will make it a hell of a challenge for both players and spectators.

The policy appears to be not to list the exact location of the car parks. This is probably to prevent people putting the wrong location into their navigation gadgets and getting lost. Or that they will head direct to a P&R car park and find it full so I would say just follow the signs. Which will direct you to a P&R which has free capacity.

    This is the official advice.....

Fans are advised to turn off satellite navigation systems and follow the appropriate signage to ensure the smoothest journey to and from The Open.

    Getting there

can you park in park and ride overnight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Mobile32

Just checking if anyone has 2 or even 1 kids go free ticket for Thursday that they are not using.

I know people have put adult tickets up on resale platform for people who can't go but they don't let people put up the kids go free tickets if they are not using them but they are allowed to be transferred to somebody else if not being used.

Looking at bringing my 8 and 11 year old, thanks.

No. See the info at the section 'By Road' at the link in my post (#63) above.

Please note overnight parking is not permitted at The Open Park & Ride facilities.

Darren Clarke was first off the tee on day one in 2019, Padraig H. will have the honour in 2025.

Full tee times will be posted at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Are Shane and Rory practicing tomorrow...app shows nothing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 716 ✭✭✭davegilly

Was there today and the app had Rory out at 9.30am but he was out on the course at 6.30am and finished by 10.45am. Noticed a huge crowd on the 16th green when I arrived about 10ish, wandered up and there was the bould Rory!!

The times are very hit and miss on the app, a lot of players had multiple tee times - best job today was hang around the 16 green/17 tee from 10.30 onwards and you'll see a good few coming through. Or go down to the driving range.

Its obvious enough as well from 16/17 area where the big names are. That area is up high and you will see the crowds following them on the course.

Weather was great today apart from about an hour or so at 1pm when all play was suspended due to a thunderstorm. Absolutely lashed but the sun was shining for the rest of the day.

I was in Troon last year. I wouldn't take the times on app as gospel. A lot seemed to change.

I'm starting to get quite excited about this now. I'm going on Thursday with a few mates. We're heading from Galway on Wednesday, staying the night in Omagh in an Airbnb, driving to the Park & Ride on Thursday morning, dinner booked in Portrush that evening, then head back to Omagh late.

I've only ever been to one golf tournament previously, and that was the Houston Open in 2009 (I was living there at the time). It was on just before The Masters, and if I remember correctly, everyone in the World's top-20 was playing that week except Tiger.

Was going to say, seeing one restaurant get battered for taking advantage/the piss with prices.

Weather changed up a lot again, Saturday looks like one of the better days so hopefully this one sticks

is it madness to bring our 10 month old to this on the Thursday or Friday? we'd be driving up and staying in Enniskillen or somewhere

Yeah I'd say it would be absolutely nuts to bring them. Think of the hassle of trying to feed them and change them. And it'll probably be pissing rain. And what if they start crying when someone is about to take a shot! 😳🤣

A 10 month old at a golf tournament would be tough going. Unless you can keep the asleep as the stewards will always be making sure there’s zero noise close to the players, it’s tough to tell a 10 month old to stay quiet!

You could split up and take turns of looking at the tournament, while the other entertains the child away from the action.

Behind 7 tee is good. You can watch them playing 6 (par 3) and they all hit driver off 7. Also back of the stand at 15 is good, short irons in there so lots hitting it close and you can also see the 8th hole behind.

A friend of mine has a spare adult ticket + u16 free attached for Sunday. If anyone is interested please PM me and I can put you in contact with him.

    Thanks

We actually have a table booked in another restaurant which is owned by that group mentioned in the article!! 🫣

Given that it'll be a long day for us and how hungry/tired I will be, as long as the food is nice I probably won't care about the price 🤣

Hi looking for an U16 ticket for Thursday if anyone has one, thanks.

    Thursday and Friday tee times

    Thursday:

    06:35 Harrington & McKibben
    07:52 Darren Clarke
    10:09 Lowry
    15:10 Rory

At the moment weather looks more favourable for Rorys side

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,840 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

The UK Met Office says there is a high probability of rain in Portrush all day Thursday, see table below. It's 48 hours away but it currently looks like there will be no advantage to teeing off early or late on Thursday.

    07:00 80%
    10:00 70%
    13:00 90%
    16:00 90%
    19:00 70%

Weather looks poor for most of the Open. Friday looking like best day.

    Bring your waterproofs.

Yes I remember the Hoylake practice day and Lowry with his "we've got 4 fu**ing claret jugs" quip. Granted it was at the expense of Olesen, but an indicator how the entitled will just suit themselves.

We spent a fair bit of time at the back of the 6th green last time. Might try back of 7th tee as you suggest this year. I remember from back of 6th you had fairly easy access to 9th tee. And players coming through the tunnel to the tee - some would interact with fans(some not). Remember seeing Tiger emerge from there 😍 and then hit a stinger 2 iron down the 9th.

    Any other good vantage points?

Anyone unable to book the park and ride? When I try it goes to the pay screen and then goes back to the home page when I hit pay without charging for the Park and Ride ticket.
