Question about filling FCA1 form for private sell

I am currently in the process of a private firearm purchase. The form includes a field for the firearm's previous certificate number. However, the current owner is unable to locate this number because the certificate expired years ago, and the firearm has been stored at a club since then. My question is: Can this field be left blank, or is it a mandatory requirement for the transaction to proceed?

In that case you are buying it from the person but the firearms source is the club, so you should fill out the rfd section instead with the club's pulse id.

The form only cares that it is going from one licenced source to another licenced destination, in this case the club pulse id to you.

I would agree with the above, also on a separate page i would just summarise the story. Just explain firearm was owner by XXX at address XX and phone number XXX. It is no been stored by Club XXX and pulse ID XXX.

There is no need to explain the "backstory" or mention the previous owner. It's just another hurdle with no relevance.

The gun is in the club so it's bought from them, essentially.

You will need a letter from the club saying that they have the firearm in storage and have sold or agreed you your purchase!

thanks all the reply guys, here is bit update on my side.

So this end up with a letter from club/shop and the source ended up with shop instead of private - I think I can also go with private with the letter and without previous cert number, but switch to shop seems going to save a lot of hassle.

No, you cannot go with a private source without them being currently licenced on it.

The difference is the person may own the gun but not be allowed to possess it(ie with a firearms certificate).

The source is to capture the licenced source of the firearm, hence the form specifying source of firearm, not owner of firearm.

The present owner is immaterial to the licencing process essentially.
