Did you ring them and tell them you've already taken time off work, booked the train and organised a lift to Baldonnell? That's not acceptable to change it on you and expect you to rearrange everything.

It probably doesn't matter to a lot of people, especially Dublin based. But once you explain to them that all the arrangements are already in place and cannot be changed I am sure they will understand.

I guarantee you, the reason it got changed in the first place is because someone else rang them looking for a specific slot. Why should you suffer because of this?

It’s not like I’m writing code while driving 😆. My hands are on the wheel when needed. Otherwise on motorway runs, I like to sit in the cruise lane hands on knees just touching the wheel. I spend almost all the driving time in autopilot.

Go all out and get the Tesla mattress and hop in the back for a snooze. Arrived home rested 😌

I live in an area with a ridiculous amount of power cuts. It's 3rd world stuff, probably about 10 cuts per year.

Its got me thinking, is it possible to use the car as an environmentally friendly diesel generator? I know i cant feed the power to the house because esb disallow this. They dont want power being fed to the grid when there is a cut because it puts the technicians at risk of electrocution.

But I'd love to somehow interface with a 3 pin extension lead and power a kettle and microwave. Anyone know if this is possible?

Edit: gpt says no. Not possible and strongly not recommended.

    Pity.

Tesla doesn't have V2L (vehicle to load) but many do. There is a third party thing that will trick the Tesla into doing it but I'd be more concerned about my car than my cuppa to risk it.

An alternative is to stick in solar batteries without the panels and a change over switch that lets you connect the house off grid to battery. Top the battery up on an EV rate at night and use it during the day.

I'm a similar power cut area. So I have solar to charge the battery and then run the house fully off grid if needed.

Maybe MYJ has a better steering torque sensor but my pre-facelift MY was a cnt for nagging despite firmly holding the steering wheel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭reaction238

MyJ seems ok to me. You can hold it lightly. The key is to always be ready. If you do that, it always seems to work. Its clever enough to know you're technically holding the wheel, but knows you're not attentive enough to be ready to take control.

Its a bit of a nuisance having to hold the wheel but not actually steer. I'm not 100% sure i like it yet and I might still fall back to adaptive cruise control only.

But there's no way I'd ve letting go of the wheel and sitting back and relaxing. Its probably the software engineers in me, I know what software looks like on the inside and its never pretty!

Teslaunch have a V2L device, but it's nearly €1500 and it's got the EU rather than UK sockets.

As mentioned above, with that many power cuts, I would be getting solar and batteries with a change over switch. A typical 5kWp install will be around €5k - €6k after the grant. A 15kWh battery will set you back another €1.5k - €2k, but over a period of about 5 years, this upfront cost will be recouped and you won't be stuck with power cuts.

I charge my batteries at night and run my house almost exclusively from them using a regular 5kW hybrid inverter.

That's what I was looking for. Seems a bit pricy though. I have solar and batteries but no switch over. I'd imagine it would be cheaper to get a switch over installed and more efficient.

The come with dual UK sockets also, can be got for under a grand if you look around. To use you have to enter the Service Menu to fool the car as it thinks it is charging so you need to manually stop battery heating

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

If you have an inverter, you probably have a socket for emergency battery power. Lets you connect an extension to keep your essentials going, like Wi-Fi, PC, fridge etc. Not for using the shower, or oven etc. I have one for my Solis, but have misplaced the connector, so haven't hooked it up yet.

Apart from squeaky suspension and tail lift, are there other things to look out for on the Model Y coming up to warranty ending?

One last call on this as I didnt see any responses (which is hopefully a good sign!)…. did anyone have any other issues with their Y's that might not be immediately obvious to the untrained eye?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Genuinely no. Other than the harsh suspension of on 20” wheels. It’s the same common issues as the 3. Lights condensation etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭reaction238

Oh interesting. This would do me for a powercut. I must have a look at the inverter and manual.

You can get them on Ali for less than €500

I havent seen the condensation issue so hopefully OK there.

The suspension on the other hand is like rolling around an old metal sprung mattress… the squeaking is horrendous…. hopefully the replacement parts are better quality than the originals(?) as I dont fancy replacing them at cost after another 40k+ km's

I have never experienced the squeaky issue myself luckily.

Interesting. I thought it was nearly all of then suffered it or maybe it requires crap rural roads to expose it!

I made it, despite a 20 min delay on the train, and a crash on the motorway with a cool 14 mins to spare !!. A

bout 3 of us had arrived at that time to collect, and as I was pulling out there was still people checking theirs over at 5.20. so it's not a hard 5 shut down.

It was only charged to 50% on pick up so I had to do my first super charge in Enfield. Got caught with two tolls :( as I'd to pay again coming from the charger back on the motor way because of it.

Grabbing some food now and then 170km to home. Should arrive home with 10% charge it says despite 340km range on the clock. There is one more super charger closer to Galway if I feel the need to dip in.

All good on the check? Did you use a particular check list?

I'll take some nice ones when I get home. I had a look at what I took and it's all just close ups of body work 🤣🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,340 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I'd watched a few videos. But it was raining so I just checked all the paint and body work. Checked everything opened and closed and that the inside was in decent shape. Some people got down to using torches to look under the car etc but that's a bit much for the long day that's in it.

    I’ve had a 2020 M3P up u til 4 years old with 50knon it, no squeaks. I’ve had a 2022 MY with 45k on it. No squeaks.

Home again, the epic 9 hour round trip with the kids was fun.

I plugged in at home and noticed the bottom two DC ports in the charging port don't have a cover on them. The type two is in the top section so that's fine but I'm assuming it's okay to leave it like that in the rain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,027 ✭✭✭JOL1

Of course…they dont come with covers so are made to cope!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Yes all good. And you can even wash these electric cars despite what some say 😂😂

First impressions are all good. Just need to get used to where things are. I'm not a big fan of everything in the screen (and there's so many settings). But I'm beginning to think I should just leave everything on auto and let it do it's thing.

The autopilot/ lane steering took a while to get used to. If I held the steering wheel with a strong grip I found it turned it off a lot. Where as if I barely touched the wheel it was actually fine.

It was weird to be cruising along and suddenly slow down out of nowhere. And having it turn off if you change lanes. My MG handled that really well.

I just need some time to sit into it on my own and figure everything out.

Kids got Netflix working in the back so they were happy.
