Donnybrook electrification from the ESB is not available at the moment, so no EWs will be arriving next year, according to Facebook. Does anyone approve this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45 Gold7

I know there has been major road works on Anglsea Road recently, could that be the reason for the delay with Donnybrook getting Chargers installed ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 259 ✭✭BusGuy

They can't do it within the next year based on the amount of AXs and EVs they have, but at the same time more buses and drivers = more faster the phases come…

But, I think they'll use them on the E1, Xs, 11B, 11. All other routes operated by Donnybrook for likes of the 4, 7A, 7, 44, will not have the EWs anytime soon since most of these routes go up hills, and, based on the incident on the EAs…

With all due respect, you’re overstating both the intent and the consequences of what you posted. It’s absolutely fair to share early insights or partial updates as long as they’re clearly framed — and that list was not final or complete. The public deserves to engage with the changes in real time, not just be handed a finished plan months later.

The idea that the 16 "cannot change" until the A-Spine due to capacity reasons is your interpretation, not a confirmed operational law. Things have changed before mid-phase when warranted, and flexibility is built into BusConnects planning for a reason.

And while your route list is helpful, it's still speculative unless backed by official NTA releases — so suggesting that others should stop posting unless they provide a “full phase-by-phase breakdown” isn’t reasonable. The discussion only moves forward when people contribute what they know or observe — not when they’re silenced for not having the full PDF.

Let’s aim to inform, not gatekeep.

Why is this rubbish still being posted in here?

Is that a rhetorical question ?

Anyway I firmly firmly believe the NTA is incapable of communicating coherently .

Ref electric buses it seems obvious to just move the buses to garages with charging infra in exchange for diesel buses in the other direction, poof problem solved they are all the NTA's buses anyway, so who cares but no doubt there is shenanigans that prevent simple answers.

In fairness to LXFlyer, in this ever moving, extremely slow painful game of chess, they have been a close as possible with the phases and the changes taking place.

For me, it is very clearly laid out and gives a clearer picture of how things are shaping up.

Basically all the depots are already full. It requires significant space in the depots for the construction crews to install chargers, ducting, substations, etc. They have to dig up the surface in the depot etc. That work basically can't be done when the depot is already full of buses, at least a significant proportion of the buses need to be moved out of the depot for a period of time to do the works in the depot. But all the other depots are full too, so where do you put them?

The solution to this problem is that the NTA are currently building a new "temporary" depot in Jamestown. The idea being when they come to upgrade each old depot, they move the buses out to the new Jamestown one, so there is space to do the works. Once complete they can move them back in to the old depot and swap the oldest buses out for the the new electric buses.

BTW The same is happening down in Cork, they have started building a new "temporary" bus depot in Tivoli Docks, to house the buses while they do the upgrade works in the old Capwell depot.

BBTW I say "temporary", I won't be surprised if at least the Jamestown one becomes permanent.

Just to correct you on one point - Jamestown Road has been up and running for a number of months now. Mainly just does peak-time & extra workings (for example the short E1 workings to Parnell Square), with a number of buses stored there but still maintained and refuelled in Phibsboro. I would imagine Harristown has migrated some buses there as well given they're currently working through installing their chargers.

That is brilliant news, thanks for the update. Hopefully the charger installation can proceed quickly so.

According to the Liffey Valley to City Centre Scheme website, the corridor has been marked as 'under contruction.

I've not seen any actual work on the ground - but I take it works are to begin fairly shortly?

For anyone using the L26 in Glenamuck; The Glenamuck District Distributor Road officially opened to traffic on the 19th of June.

There is a new turning circle built for the L26 route along the Glenamuck Road as per the link below.

Bus users also have to use the bus stop 3478 on Enniskerry Road. Is that stop being used for the L26 & 118?

On the topic of the turning arrangement for the L14 in Cherrywood, Dublinbusstuff.ie posted an update with a good overview of the changes.

The L14 is a bit of a magical mystery tour - it still goes into the estate in little Bray in both directions, on top of it's awkward routing around the seafront. Anyone planning to go from the Southern Cross to get the Luas might be better off walking.

Bit of an extreme example but if you previously got the 84 from Greystones Harbour to Cherrywood, that journey is now L3→L1→L14 with the latter being an odyssey.

I think you do need to accept that with a completely revised network, that things won’t stay the same.

The L14 is a local community bus route - serving the local areas is what it is there to do. Most people using it won’t be going end to end, but will be using for part of the journey.

Let’s not go OTT - the loop of Palermo takes only 5 mins. The increase in frequency alone will make it a better option than the random 84 connection.

And yes, I do think that your journey example is a tad extreme - you could be talking about single digit users all day long for that specific trip. Could they not walk up to the Church Road for the L1/L2 rather than taking three buses?

At peak times, which is when the majority will be making that connection, the direct X2 is still there between the LUAS and Greystones.

I think on balance that they have got it right now. The L14 offers a service to parts of Bray that would not otherwise have a bus service, links with the E Spine and LUAS, and provides a much needed bus for the new homes in Cherrywood every 30 mins all day long.

I docthink there should be a direct linkup between the L14 and any bus to Blackrock. Do the L14 and 7 share any

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 185 ✭✭DUBLINBUSGUY

Get off the L14 at Stop 5046 and cross the road Stop 5047 for the 7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭p_haugh

The L14 doesn't serve stop 5046 as it needs to then turn right at the junction. Instead it serves stop 8226 just after the junction on Valley Drive, with a 2 minute walk to stop 5047

Would be better off connecting from the E1 to the L26 at Cornelscourt if travelling from Bray/Shankill to Blackrock

Notice that the new bus stops installed in Cherrywood are the old style. Thought that design had been retired at this stage.

Yes I meant they are under construction, with the construction to be finished in July / August, in preparation for a 2025 launch of F-Spine.

So I assume that GAI will start to receive EWs when the new depot opens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭p_haugh

As far as I'm aware the new depot had no mention of EV chargers as part of the planning application? Certainly not on the drawings anyways. Their depot in ballymount did however have provisions for EV chargers included as part of their planning permission for depot expansion that was granted a few years ago. They've subsequently done upgrade works on the depot but not sure if any EV infrastructure has been installed yet
