Des had already done the draw in his head at half time last Sunday. He said that Armagh could only play Kerry, and gave the other possible pairings, without any mention of Louth. A bit presumptious with the scoreline such as it was. Just after 2:47:50, he copped himself on a little bit later.

It would be unlike Jim not to make at least one change to the named team before throw in. McColgan has carried a lot of ball in the last two games so I wouldn't be surprised to see him start instead of Daire again. We have penty of strong options on the bench if change is needed. If it wasn't for the short turnaround and number of games played I would be more confident but even one half to match the second half last week should be enough today.

I cannot see O Baoill starting before McColgan either unless it`s part of a McGuinness plan to see us having last weeks second half in this weeks first half.

Something that will probably be need after just a 5 day break and a month that will see us playing four games against a team that have only played four games in total in this championship and came through the softest qualifier group.

I thought with the energy needed to make up the half time deficit could take too much out of our legs, but Monaghan’s forced substitutions from injuries robbed them of subs going down the stretch and we went for the jugular, something we’ve struggled with, apart from the Cavan game. Incredible game from Shane O Donnell. What is it with McBrearty almost always turning it on in Croke Park.
    We go again.

Incredible second half, once again we came out and blew the opposition away in the second half. The bench played a big part and I know Shane O'Donnell got Mom but I thought Conor O'Donnell was superb today, his best game for us.

Hope Galway win their match and get drawn v Donegal. There's a score to settle too and I really think Galway are ideal fodder for Donegal. The way you guys played in the 2nd half today, especially the longer it went on, showed fitness of the highest level. That tigerish frontal assault with threats everywhere would demolish the Galway team.

Fair play Donegal. Gutted here in Monaghan. Phenomenal second half. Gwan and win it out now!

Great results today and great draw. Bring on the Royal county!

If we had been let pick who we played for the preliminary QF, the QF and now the Semi-Final then those would have been the three teams I would have gone for.

Who knows, with injuries clearing up, and on the evidence of the last two games everyone coming back to their best form, for once the Gods may be smiling on us.

    Good draw.

I have a feeling that has more to do with a dislike of Galway than a love for Donegal.😉

Meath will have no fear and feel they can beat anyone after beating Dublin Kerry and now Galway. On the other hand they still lost to Louth who we hammered so we will be big favourites. It’s the draw we would have picked. I’m there they will be prepared properly and it’s a serious opportunity to reach the All Ireland.

I’d have rather played Kerry in a semi than a final. They’ve just experienced more of them. However we’ll take what we’re drawn. I’d say the physical and psychological toll of Meath getting this far when I doubt anyone in their camp expected at the beginning of the year will be at a crescendo. They’ll fear no-one, and we’ll need to be on the ball from the get-go, and not expect that we’ll get out of jail every second half. I’d love a Donegal Tyrone final, but based on the performance against the dubs, can’t envision it. Their squad depth, regardless of what Malachy said post-match is an issue.

Personally I would like a Kerry final and I think Jim would want it bad with 2014 etched in his mind. I do wonder did the high of beating Dublin in the semi that year affect the final performance so thinking a semi we are probably expected to win and go on and perform on final day against whoever. But we must focus on Meath first.

No actually, it wasn't. I never really thought they were worthy of being where they are this year and Donegal would have totally stuffed them. Great that Meath turned them over before that happened. Very strange team that P Joyce put out, awfully slow to make changes and no plan B or anything else whatsoever. I'd imagine he'll be given the crooked finger, Galway need to do it. In any case a lot of that Galway team have done their time and find it difficult to be any sort of an impact team for quite a while

The scores being posted under these new rules show how much they are geared towards forwards and midfield. In Walsh, Comer, Finnerty, Tierney and one of the finds of the season, Thompson, they have some of the best in the game. Their middle third isn`t half bad either. The centre of their defense may be a bit light and they need to work on their kick-outs, but they are not a team I would see just fading away anytime soon.

If Joyce is gone as manager I doubt they will be short of candidates looking for the job.

Comer a great bulldozer of a footballer, but he's no longer able to do it so I'd imagine he's gone. Cillian McDaid has too many if's and but's as regards injuries and if he stays won't be the same footballer again, their midfield lynchpin Paul Conroy had had his day, although a wonderful footballer and person, but again, he's had his day. Joyce didn't really use Molloy poroperley either and he may feel he's not going to get any better and leave it at that too, same with Daly. Yesterday when Joyce played Jack Glynn at centrefield it showed Galway lacking in replacements for that position. Glynn is a bloody good corner back, nothing more than that though and he and Joyce were badly found out v Meath. The goalie situation is also an achilles heel for the team. Galway have been lucky, but luck caught up with them. Would Mayo have beaten that Meath team on Sunday last? Yes, I feel they would and have a few points to spare. Will Donegal beat them? I think they're very similar to Donegal and not a surprise packet anymore. Jim will do his due diligence and might have the upperhand in this one. Kerry will beat Tyrone on what we saw at the weekend. As for Joyce stepping down? There's many in the backroom who feel he's done what he can and it's hard to see what more he can do now. This year they've gone back and only got to where they did on good fortune. Plenty of canditates to step in is always the case, they don't have the same trumps though in the pack of cards they'll more than likely be handed. Mayo to me have a far more promising set of footballers going into 2026 and we may do very well indeed. Oh, that's only my opinion. Bring it on and the break will do everyone good. Great games coming up in a couple of weeks, enjoy. Donegal and Kerry for me and that's easy to predict, but who knows with the new rules. We've got a new game out there and it's becoming a great one.

why are you raving on about Galway and Mayo here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 Pat734

True, didn't realise I was on the Donegal forum. Sorry about that. Good luck v Meath, be a cracker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,767 ✭✭✭downthemiddle

Paul Falloon is in charge of the semi final. I'm not sure how they have arrived at that decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,798 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

They probably thought that seeing as he came so close to knocking us out against Mayo in Hyde Park he deserved a second chance.

Fixtures committee doubling down. Get ready for a bruising encounter. How on earth is an Ulster referee allowed in either of these games?
