Just wondering if anyone noticed a lack of the big bottles of cold coffee?.

Cherries are at a reasonable price today.

I don’t recommend their Self Raising flour. Not enough rise compared to Odlums. Just baked two Victoria sponges, came out relatively flatter and noticeably harder.

Is it just me or has Lidl gotten considerably more expensive (I imagine Aldi have followed suit too)?

I was in Lidl yesterday and bought a carrier basket of bits, nothing major, bit of fruit, cereal, some ready meals, some snacks and an 8 pack of stout... €96 😲.

I realise now after reviewing the receipt that the drink and the ready meals are the killer. The drink (when you add in the scandalous return deposit) was the best part of €20 (used to be €13-14) ready meals are now €4 or €5 each (used be €2-3), but stuff like prepared wraps and milk have gone up a lot in price too.

Anybody else notice that the German discounters are about on a par now with Dunnes/Tesco?

Lidl, Tesco and Dunnes all charge EUR2.45 for 2L full-fat milk.

EUR96 is a lot! I would rarely go over 20.

My LIDL don't have carrier baskets any more as such, but those small blue wheelie trollies which also have a carry handle (TA the ALDI ones don't). You could fit a lot in them. And my local LIDL have very few of the small 'proper' trollies.

Yes we are constantly saying here that the prices are going up at Lidl. If I had the energy I would start shopping at another supermarket to see how it compares pricewise.

I think prices everywhere have gone through the roof. I shop around all the supermarkets and everything seems much more expensive now. I was looking at buying fish in Lidl at the weekend, but it seemed so dear for what was in the pack. I honestly think my wages have so little value anymore. Meat has also gotten very dear in Lidl. 4 little lamb cutlets for 10 euro. I left them there.

Lads grocery inflation is through the roof and has been for some time, I'm not really sure how that's coming as a surprise to anyone - the Pricewatch "standard" basket of 25 common grocery items was up 33% in April compared to the same basket of items in 2022. Kantar's most recent inflation figure was a 4.96% increase on the same 12-week period in 2024.

This is subscriber-only but it makes for a very interesting (and depressing) read if you have a login - Ireland’s grocery prices are still soaring. How can that be? – The Irish Times

Fwiw, I find that while Lidl and Aldi are definitely more expensive than they were - how could they not be??? - they're still significantly cheaper than Dunnes/Tesco/SV on non "price matched" items, which let's face it, is the vast majority of their stock.

Choco BonBons from Lidl are bloody delicious. Just as nice as the kinder ones

Went in for the cheap pizza stone to replace the KJ deflector plate that I've broken, again. None in store, but I bought these. My warm weather treat. £1.99.

Could pass for homemade. Haven't tried the caramel. Strawberry and lemon are both top class.

Can't agree, I thought they were awful when I tried them in the past.

The choc filled pancakes/crepes from the French range, on the other hand.... yummmmmm!!

I guess I like a very plain, not too sweet jam tart.

Have a look at the ingredients in the Lidl coconut milk and Aldi one.

    1000024363.jpg

The Lidl light coconut milk has more coconut in it (60%) than the Aldi normal one!

    Price isn't everything!

I always buy the Lidl one it's great but my local Ludl haven't had it in stock for the last few weeks. They've had the Amoy stuff instead, nowhere near as good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭BestWestern

Same with me. It's hardly ever in stock and the amoy one is twice the price.

Picked up some sazon feijão, I see it's made by Ajinomoto, the company that makes MSG.

Haven't used it yet, but should be good for black beans. 🤗

An anti-recommendation: the Batts Dijon mustard.

There's something about it that I don't like. I'll go back to the Maille or Lakeshore, both are great.

Do get the dried olives in the Greek range (I added oil).

It's 18C and I can have olives for breakfast. 🌞

    Skip that "protein" hummous. 👎️

Polish section(German?). Would definitely buy again.

These are lovely and so handy to have in the freezer, nicest ready meals out there imo, ignore the protein gimmick they have the exact same protein as a regular meal.

Perfect out of the microwave aswell just a bit on the small side so make some naan or garlic bread while you're waiting:

These definitely are, i was really surprised. The BBQ burrito one is my favorite but they are all good. I also like the fact they are not huge portions, just right for me.

Couple of excellent ribeyes from Lidl yesterday. As good as they get really.

Anyone seen this wine in any Dublin stores?
