People who seem to feel they can't go to a free card only till unless they hear the magic words from the attendant "anyone paying by card" . Was recently in a queue when the magic words were spoken and a woman at the back of the queue went forward and said " I am" before anyone else had a chance.

At a busy self service area in Tesco recently a woman wanders up, planks her basket down and immediately strikes up a conversation with another woman oblivious to the growing queue until the attendant had to suggest it was time to scan.

Latest ZSA - people, with their own particular axe to grind, deciding to takeover a specific thread to have a moan, rant and back and over discourse, instead of letting us all enjoy actual ZSAs, different to this one.

Many of the issues discussed here regarding space, lack of common sense, inefficiency are directed at women being guilty of this.

That trend continues when it comes to driving a car, especially when edging up towards a roundabout and being ready to go when there's a gap, most often women cannot judge this time correctly, they start from too far back, when there's a gap, instead of joining the roundabout, they nudge up to where they should of been in the first place.

When it comes to overtaking, driving in the fast lane, parking, reversing, anything to do with space, more often than not it's women with really poor judgement and execution. It's like when they are in a vehicle they don't give a fcuk about anyone else other than themselves.

Well I just don't agree with you and has nothing to do with my ego. Are you saying it doesn't happen? Denying reality and saying it is our ego doesn't cut it as a argument.

I had always assumed people with a dog should keep to the outside, where there is more space for the dog

Dog goes on grass verge if there is one otherwise on the inside for me.

This happened to me last week. Huge trolley of shopping and I had one item.

I was amazed to discover 30 minutes later when getting home that this person was in fact my new neighbor across the street.

    Enemy for life 😁

You should try to keep your dog on the inside so it is less likely to go out in the road if it suddenly sees something. It is one f the most basic suggestion for dog safety

Speaking of neighbours, my wife was once trudging home in the pissing rain carrying the shopping. Her next door neighbour drove past - on the way home and gave her a big cheery wave.

I don't find this happens in Dunnes, because of the vouchers.

Yes definitely experienced this in Supervalu. Dunnes stores too. In fairness Lidl & Aldi are usually the most efficient at getting through and out the door.

I'm probably coming off as a frightful grump … and that I am .. 😠😫. but when you just want to get your few essentials and get out and theres no self service checkouts its a pain in hole. Just have your bloody money ready (hold on a second .. I have to pay for this??… 🤔..) like everyone else and try not to get engrossed in a lengthy conversation with the cashier about the recent terrible terrible trouble over in that place with all the trouble.

Its good to chat but maybe not when theres 10 quietly enraged people behind you patiently waiting pretending not to think dark thoughts.

as we say, your entitled to your opinion, but that doesnt mean you re right, nor me for that matter!

again, you re sprouting pretty standard misogynistic view points, i.e. attempting to continually undermine, degrade, shame, ridicule female sentiments and viewpoints, and continually trying to inflate the male ego in the process, i..e you actually feel threatened by females, by any chance did you have a difficult childhood with a female primary care giver, i.e. your mother?

and by whos rules dont my opinions cut it, yours?

Judging by this thread, 8 out of the 10 are just waiting their turn to have a chat.

I don't agree with you that is it. If you are female or pro-female views doesn't make a difference. By a standard metric I stated , as other have, experience and observation and nothing more. You on the other hand spouted theory of why certain things happen but neither confirmed or denied my experience happened to you. Now you can go back and read what I said and actually say what was actually misogynistic because you haven't stated it yet and just made a thinly veiled insult.

By no rules did I say your opinion didn't matter I said your argument doesn't cut it they same as this comment isn't an argument or proving a point just name calling with no foundational argument.

If I said "women tend to wear high heels and not men" is that misogynistic? Do you think it would be appropriate for me to suggest you have daddy issues because you are obviously anti men?

Overall you have shown poor debating skills and seem to be showing predetermined views without sufficient details.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭89897

Some men wear high heels and some men waste time at check outs etc but to you its only women who are the problem, thats the misogynistic part.

Your experience is based on your own bias.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,351 ✭✭✭Ray Palmer

I never said only women are the problem. I didn't say men don't wear high heels either

You don't know what I experienced or if it is a bias memory.

I on the other hand have pointed out where you have misunderstood or misrepresented what I said.

What you really should have done is apologised for getting what I said wrong when I pointed it out rather than double down on your unfounded claims and insults. Of course you are probably going to say I am mansplaining but to be clear I am stating my opinion/experience and clarifying because you keep getting what I say wrong.

    Ah here.

It is not misogynistic at all to say that, in one's own experience, the majority of people who do X are male/female. Not even slightly. Trying to turn this into a Trans issue is completely delusional.

I'll tell you what is misogynistic, though. Belittling women. Trying to remove the sovereignty* of half the population by explaining away the selfish behaviour of a minority through assumptions that a larger portion of them are mentally unwell. Like you did…………………….."oh yeah, well maybe women are like that because they have mental issues because they need to deal with X, Y and Z………"

*this is the wrong word, I'm struggling to think of the correct one as it's far too late in the day to be bothering with such unimportant stuff. It's bugging me now though, so a gold star to whoever reminds me what the correct one is.

Edit: it came to me - 'Agency'

    Funny you should say this...

Was in Dunnes in Rathmines earlier and an older woman (early 60's) was in front of me. She waited until the girl had scanned her first 8 or 10 items and then says "I'd like a bag". After more items came through she then says "actually I'll take another bag".

When the girl had finished scanning she was still packing (that's cool as she had a good few items). Then when she finished she asked the amount again. Then the rooting inside the handbag for the phone. Then the inevitable "I can't find the app". Eventually she located the app and scanned her dunnes card. Puts the phone down to look for her purse then says "actually I have a voucher". Back to the phone to find the voucher.

Girls then says "card or cash"?

"Ehmm...card please". Back to the phone where she couldn't find her apple wallet on it.

The queue beside me was on the 4th person when I eventually got served. No concern or concept of holding others up.

    None.

Mfceiling sounds like my Tesco lady, she must have switched to Dunnes this week!

In fairness, all the fuss with these vouchers means that the time spent at the till takes longer and has become more involved than say a counter transaction at say a post office or bank.

It's often lengthened by someone realising the total is €48.50 and they then say, give me a sec while they go to grab a low value item to get them to €50. Or indeed the lesser-spotted reverse, where it comes to over €50 and they survey what they can put back to get closer to €50.

    I blame Dunnes.

Some of the worst people with no situational awareness are couples in supermarkets that look like this. They keep blocking the aisles and standing right in front of the item you want to take from the shelf. No matter where you turn or what section of the supermarket you go to, there they are, blocking you once again.

TBF, now everything is on the phone, it does take a lot longer. I am very organised and would have always had vouchers ready, clubcard etc ready and payment ready for when my groceries were packed. Now however, I'm (mostly) forced into self service tills, where I can't pack until I'm finished everything else, also I have to look up vouchers on phone, then get the card app/barcode from app on phone and use it. It actually takes up more time and is less convenient, imo.

Hold on……. where have I made this a trans issue or even once mentioned trans people??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 441 ✭✭89897

You dont have to be a genius to see what you're actually saying whatever way you try skirt around it. Case in point, you're ending this by jumping to assumptions about what i might say.
