Coaches do six weeks blocks twice a year I think in my lads school. Doesn't always turn up and won't let them tackle each other incase someone gets hurt…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,384 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

There’s also a coach goes into the schools and if anyone messes, says the kids don’t want to learn and leaves. They’re kids for gods sake!

A lot of the clubs used to get their own coaches and pay them to go into the local national school. Gowna had either Cian or Tiarnan Madden doing it on a Friday as they’d no college at the time on Fridays.

It’s proving impossible to get lads to do that now though with the country at full employment. Better pay elsewhere.

Ah come on, that's a cod. If you're involved in coaching kids, you have to accept that a good number of them are hard to handle. It goes with the territory. For certain age groups, it is more crowd control than coaching but you stick with it.

A friend of mine is just back from South America. I picked him up at the airport in Belfast He was off grid working with indigenous people in the Andes since after Christmas. Teaching English. I told him Cavan are in a preliminary AI QF in Kerry. I told him how the league went. He's going down to Killarney on the beer to celebrate. He reckons that's a great year for Ray because he was sure we were heading for division 3.

Keep him under observation. The incubation period for malaria is 7 to 30 days.

I was thinking isolation until Sunday🤣

So anyway, despite all the depression I am thinking about going to Kerry. I have never been to Fitzgerald Stadium, its one of the 2/3 county grounds I haven't been at before. Anyone else going to go?

Much like yourse;f Myles I am a glutton for punishment and had resolved to one more outing for 2025, but the timing completely rules me out (won't even get to see it on GAA+) as I have a family gathering

Maybe the lads will surprise me and I will get a run at it the weekend after next :)

I think the players want the year to be over. I don't blame them, the hurt and embarrassment of the last 2 games will have taken its toll. I'd be very surprised if that isn't reflected in the performance this week. And I won't travel because of this.

Liam Brady appointed Academy Manager? Surprised there hasn't been more chat about this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,384 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I don’t know Liam, he’s the best club keeper in the county IMO, but this would worry me because two years ago on the night of the odd vs evens age gradings debate the county board rolled him out to back their proposal to stay at odds.

He said his bit and they then couldn’t even get one delegate in the room to back their proposition it was so unthinkable, yet he had just spoken at length in favour of it.

Have we another yes man in a position? God forbid they appoint someone might challenge the status quo.

I was there that night and I thought it was more Michael Geoghegan who now current Ulster GAA president that was brought down with the skewed stats to push it to keep it at odds. Liam obviously had his opinion on it and tbf I think that may have been coming from the fact that county level minor has stayed odds whilst all other underage has reverted to evens and he has been involved with county minor setup for a number of years.

Either way he has a background in underage GAA development, he has been coaching officer in Ramor which has some of the largest underage numbers in the county and I believe has been involved with some clubs outside Cavan in helping developing coaching structures. A cynic in me wasn't going to be surprised if some randomer with no previous experience but ties to the county board would of got it!

Focusing on the positives, he seems to be a very high achiever and for a young man has been extraordinarily committed to Cavan football. Playing second string to Galligan all those years and being a coach with the minors for the last 4 years.

If he approaches this role as he seems to have approached his other pursuits in life, it could prove to be an excellent aappointment. Hopefully the WAC lads will get him on and we can hear from him directly

Good on you. Might as well tick Killarney off your stadium bucket list.

    Team to face Kerry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,384 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Is that not the exact same team named as last week? You’d have to hope they’ll make a few changes and throw caution to the wind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 359 ✭✭Nobbies

They haven't even mentioned " cavan " on the kerry thread. Talking about who's in and out and " armagh " .

Oh well. I suppose the truth only hurts the once.

I hope the defenders tackle today. Parted like the Red sea in the last two games.

Turnovers absolutely killing us. Just giving the ball away. This is going to be embarassing.

Ffs even the basics are missing today. Terrible stuff. Losing nearly every kick out now. This could be Galligan's last match as manager.

It seems Galligan has learnt nothing from the previous games. If this style of play hasn't worked against Tyrone, Meath, Monaghan, or Donegal, how the **** will it work against Kerry.

Kerry are showing us how these new rules should be played. Move the ball quickly and with the foot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,384 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

It really is a simple game. Kerry kick the ball so their forwards have space when they get it. Cavan run or handpass it so Kerry have time to setup. I don’t know how the Cavan management team haven’t seen transition is the problem all year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭benjy1000

    Ridiculous stuff. Worst ever.

Galligan will still be there on the tit, county board will do nothing.

Hape of the veterans will quit now, and we will be toying with division 3& 4 & making the odd tailteann semi final, that’s the future

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Custard_Cream

Anyone who knows the game can see it's a system and management issue... Galligan will send us back years..

He seems to have the WAC lads backing him which Is just baffling... Two hours of a podcast during the week and little to no critique of management... They would probably blame Mattie McGleenan for this before Galligan.

    That's that's so.

Anyways Paddy Lynch in that kind of form heading into a club championship is scary.
