It's the equivalent of asking Mayo to come up to Derry for the game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭babybuilder

It's a fairly vindictive decision. McGuinness must have annoyed them with the no croke park talk. I know now how Mayo fans fans felt in the infamous decision to hold their all Ireland semi final reply in Limerick.

Shocking lack of respect for Donegal supporters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭babybuilder

It isn't the distance alone but the fact that mayo see it as a ground they know all to well. Hardly a neutral venue.

I would not be that happy with Hyde Park. Far as I know Mayo have a better championship record there than in McHale Park, but other than Croke Park I don`t know what options there were capacity wise. It seems that with Cavan playing the same time in Brewster, Breffini could not provide the stewards needed to hold the game there.

Mayo supporter here, the Hyde is definitely an advantage for us (more from a familiarity point of view but also a bit closer)

That said, I still think Donegal will win based on what I saw of ye in the league match in Castlebar and how poor we have throughout the championship up until last Saturday. Bookies have it 4/9 vs 9/4

One of the other drawbacks of playing in Roscommon is that some of our players won’t get home until one o’clock Monday morning. There is nothing about the venue that suits Donegal.

Clones would have got my vote, but they were never going to even consider it.

This year we have a better record in the championship in Clones than we have in Ballybofey.

Game starts at 4. With the clock being stopped nowadays and and a minimum of 15 minutes at half time the game will finish at 5.45 approximately. Some players will take a minimum of 30 to reach the dressing room from signing autographs and taking selfies with the future generations of players. Then there is time to shower and a debrief from Jim which brings you to well after 7 o’clock at the very earliest. Then they go to refuel where they will be waiting to be served etc. It is reasonable to expect that it will be approximately 9 o’clock before they are on the road home. It is then a four hour journey for those from Inishowen and the north west of the county. Then they have to get up for work the following morning. It’s far from ideal.

That isn't bad for a Donegal team, I remember a famous game v Dublin where it was Tuesday before they got home

Folks, I have a spare stand ticket for the Hyde on Sunday. If anyone is interested let me know

13yrs since we’ve beat these cnuts in league or championship, 21yrs since they’ve lost a championship match in the Hyde.

We’ve been bullied physically into defeat by this lot on far too many occasions in recent times. We’ll need a big performance from everyone to put these ghosts to bed.

The bookies overwhelmingly fancy us, and they’re not often wrong, but I’d be very uneasy about this one.

Forecast of rain for Sunday afternoon. Hope this changes. I'd be more confident with a dry ball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 720 ✭✭✭ghostfacekilla

Well, you’d think a day like that would suit a team that doesn’t kick the ball, but we seen how many unforced errors that we saw in the rain against Tyrone.

However, the Norwegian weather app which tends to be fairly accurate it is only giving a light drizzle at most.

Hopefully Mayo’s refusal all year to even attempt two pointers will continue on Sunday

Patton named to start, Mulreaney not available and Danny Rodgers back from oblivion to take a place on the bench. Jason named in the squad with McGonagle and NOD still not available.

Great to have Patton named to start. We have had a problem with Mayo`s physicality the last number of years so good to see McGee on the bench if needed. Pity about McGonagle as he would have given us the bit of bulk same.

Hopefully we will put someone on O`Shea to man mark him. Against Tyrone to me at least he did a lot of damage being left to do as he wished around their 45 looking to pick out players inside, (something we have had problems from both Tyrone and Down doing similar) and when nothing was on inside, using his physical strength to break the line and draw defenders. They will also most likely attempt to use O`Donoghue to draw out McCole so it will be interesting as to what McGuinness`s instructions will be if they do attempt to do that.

I would put mcmenamin on o'shea. He's looked in good shape when he's come on and marked him in the league.

Was worried that mcgee was gone for the year so good to have him back

During the two games where Mulreany replaced Patton, I was commenting to my fellow travellers that it would be great to have the services of Rogers. A lad sitting beside me informed me that Bonner had him in for a few years, but left due to not getting game time, and travel commitments with work. I was out of the country during the Bonner years, but don’t recall him being involved, but I may have missed that.

From watching him at club, he appears like a lad who could put us into the ‘two great keepers’ bracket alongside Armagh, if he is able to handle the pressure at the level that we can potentially progress to in the competition.

Put the manchild on him and get him on the back foot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,674 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

I would be worried about McMenamin going back to some of his old ways and conceding fouls close to goal. If it was up to me I would put McGee on him and see how he liked those onions.

Big result in Tullamore. Potentially good for us. If e did make qf via long way options are Meath and Monaghan/Down. We would have taken that. With the proviso that it looks like anyone can best anyone at this stage.

ps 1 adult and 2 kids tickets going for tomorrow. No charge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 386 ✭✭Alvin Holler

    Really important to win tomorrow.

Finish third and it's away to Dublin, Kerry or down/monaghan.

Finish and it's home against galway, cork or louth/ Clare.

Yeah draw could open up but really important to win tomorrow.

So win tomorrow and avid galway in the draw and we could be playing two division 2 teams to get to semi

Yes results yesterday worked in our favour I think. After the blow of losing in Ballybofey I think an opportunity has opened up again but we need to win today. I think losing 2 out of 3 group games and the odds of really challenging for an AI are slim. Win today and if we somehow avoided Galway I would imagine we would be fancied to reach the semis. Even if we got Galway next week in Ballybofey it would be tough but we would probably be slight favourites.
