Which broadband allows port forwarding?

Hi, I am looking for a broadband that allows. port forwarding for ipv4.

I have HUb 5 from VM which is ipv6 and doesn't allow me to enable modem mode. Is there are any broadband that is not under CGNAT around? Thanks

Everyone else basically. Are you on Virgin Media FTTP? An ONT is installed on the wall for every other network - SIRO, OpenEir, NBI and you can just connect your own router to it, leaving out the provided router altogether.

An ONT will even be installed if you switch to Vodafone or Sky over Virgin Media FTTP, if that’s the only network available to you.

You can use a WAS-110 to bypass the Hub 5x if you wanted to also -

Just to confirm: if I already have FTTP with the ONT installed on the wall, would it be possible to plug my GL.iNet Flint (GL-AX1800) router directly into the ONT and bypass the Hub 5 completely?

I’m planning to set it up as a WireGuard VPN server so I can connect to it remotely with a Slate or Beryl as client

Would that work without needing the Hub 5 at all?

The Flint looks like a lovely device.

I'm a big GL-iNet fan!

It should be possible, though you may need to spoof the MAC address from the Virgin router on the Flint.

I'll keep an eye on the thread as I should be getting a similar Virgin upgrade next week and want to use the existing router too.

Yes you can, VLAN ID 10 might be needed. Is it SIRO, NBI or Virgin Media FTTP that’s installed?

The MAC address cloning should only be needed if it’s the Virgin Media FTTP network.

An ONT will not be installed for you @niallb if you already have Virgin coax and are getting upgraded to FTTP. You would have to get modem mode by asking for IPv4 or replace the Hub 5x with a WAS-110 etc.

It’s a brand new apartment block and from what I can see, it looks like they’ve installed Virgin Media FTTP. It seems like there’s some sort of exclusivity or partnership between the building management and Virgin Media only Virgin is available at the moment in that unit. Will be trying to set up on Monday connecting the ethernet cable directly to the FTTP on the Flint and cloning Virgin MAC address on the admin session. Will see and will post an update here

Great, just to be aware that modem mode on those new hub devices from Virgin Media are usually not coming with it. Recommend to ask them before you take it if you are willing to port forwarding!

Virgin Media don't install ONTs for their own FTTP by default as the Hub 5x has an integrated ONT. They do install an ONT if you choose Sky, Vodafone or soon Digiweb through Virgin Media FTTP.
