I’d doubt he has another offer tbh. I am aware there were rumblings of one in the past but I think that ship has sailed and I also suspect it was likely a negotiation tactic.

How many times have we heard that of these superstars aren’t paid top dollar they’ll move to the BBC and NBC etc? We’ve had one big move (Pat Kenny) and it took him years to build up an audience on Newstalk. We’ve now had numerous examples of RTÉ superstars’ replacements garnering larger audiences than their more high-profile predecessors (O’Rourke grew Kenny’s old slot, Callan grew Tubridy’s etc) proving the name wasn’t the driving force behind the listenership (Tubridy’s since gone on to shrink the Q audience by 20% in a year - and from a low base too). I can imagine Bauer would be more prudent with their money now they’re the largest commercial group of stations in the country than when they were in a growth and acquisition phase - but I could of course be wrong.

I’d suspect it’s a combination of factors, but for the sake of his health I hope he retires. He does not look or sound well. He should enjoy his retirement. He’ll still take home more than most of us for the SFA “work” he’s done this year - you can be sure of that.
