    Great recovery, should make par

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,552 ✭✭✭Trampas

Probably suits him coming from miles back as less pressure on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭coillcam

There's hot starts and then there's -5 through 4. Unbelievable. The approach on the 1st was unbelievable.

    Terrible putt

That putt is worse than the one on 18th a while back when in contention to win. Terrible 3 putt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,669 ✭✭✭Benicetomonty

First putt was the problem unfortunately. Tentative is an understatement, to leave it that far shot was really poor.

A f bomb after tee shot on 10

    another putt left short

Seems like it’s another Deja vu week. Gets top of leaderboard and game just doesn’t hold up

+1 for the last 12 holes is not going to get it done unfortunately. Still will pick up a decent paycheck

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,552 ✭✭✭Trampas

Played great for 8 holes but then his more than likely final round performance kicked in when at the pointy end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭dublin49

missed 2 4 footers ,and 6 footer on last, would definitely be in the mix here if he could putt even averagely.

He would be almost better hitting it where he doesnt think it will fall

Putting is the only thing letting Shane down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,407 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

He just can't find a way to win, but always finds a way to lose.

150 odd players lost this week. That's Golf. Only 1 winner and lots and lots of losers.

Im sure the $180k cheque will ease the pain. I'm also not sure if you can call anyone walking away with that much money a loser!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Golf is a game of losers for gods sake.

Tigers the best ever career-wise, and he's something like 22% wins.

So the best ever, statistically lost about 4/5 of the events he played

    Jack's rate was around 12%.

People need some perspective. Would you love him to have won more, of course, but it's considerably easier said than done

I wasn't calling Shane or anyone a loser. Just point out it is a lot harder to win a tournament than not.

another tournament where hes failed to move the dial significantly on "moving day".

Great start to the final day but just too far behind to contend on a day where -5 or -6 was being carded by many

I understand the frustration because you really want him to win. The fact he's in contention so often is impressive.

At the start of the year he was ranked 28 in the world, he's now on the verge of the top 10. A good US open and he'll be top10.

I think this week could be really good. He needs a good start and he'll have a chip on his shoulder because of what happened on this course the last the time the US open was played there.

I think it's a very simplistic way of looking at things. He's an unbelievable shotmaker and ball striker. As good as almost anyone on tour.

His putting is behind the rest of his game, and I think his mentality can be volatile. You need everything firing at a high level to get a win.

It's very hard to keep a putter firing for straight four rounds at a level significantly higher than your baseline. He doesn't take setbacks or frustrations well and compounds errors at times. Probably not that easy to find a fix.

Regardless of the lack of an individual win. He's challenging, featuring or finishing high in most events over the last two seasons. This year, even more so. He's one of the few active players on tour with a major. Far from a journeyman by any means, and making ridiculous money along the way. There are plenty of multi event winners who won't get a whiff of a major in their careers 15-20 years

He's got a few more peak years left to make hay. I think he has another bit of growth potential in his game (putting/mentality). Time will tell if he gets there.

his putting kills him, whether its a 5 footer to save par or a 8 or 9 footer to build momentum he misses more than most.To make matters worse he doesnt appear to have the personality to move on from misses and his head seems to drop and he goes into a flunk, that said ,I think there has been an improvement in his attitude this year but his putting not so much.

He's pretty much same as years back, will be streaky and dangerous when it all clicks, it's got him a Major and WGC so he accepts these flaws as being part of what makes Shane

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

100%,like many I want him to be a world beater but he is what he is and has been incredibly successful so far with hopefully more to come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,506 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

And what ever he's doing it's working. I don't think he was ever inside the top 15 in the world until this year.

Bogies on each of the par 5’s today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 41,506 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I think he's 139th on par 5s this season out of 176 listed.
