Did Leinster not offer him a development contract because his last year at the academy was riddled with injuries - and he said 'I'm alright, Jack' and went off to Scarlets?

He was released by Leinster and had to find a new club. Improved straight away when he joined Scarlets and then moved again to Munster and went to a different level again.

So are you claiming he never got a "genuine chance in one position" at Leinster or Scarlets, or both?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,989 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Oh I see you are getting pedantic now because I showed you a blatantly obvious player that moved clubs and improved massively.

Please just stop quoting my posts if you are going to be so childish.

Beirne was great with Scarlets and moved to Munster and went to a different level again. He moved clubs twice and markedly improved.

Anyway I really think it's worth the risk for a club to sign Frawley and give him a run as the starting out-half, I think there's a very good chance it works out well. I'd love if Connacht did it.

Would be interested to see Kilgallen and TOB start at 11 and 14 in the same backline for one of the summer games. Been a while since we’ve had wings with top end pace.

Some decent competition starting to emerge below Lowe and Hansen with Stockdale, Bolton, Nash, JOB and Baloucoune also around.

Don't hurt your back carrying those goal posts around.

Beirne did not leave Leinster because he didn't get a chance in one position.

Beirne did not leave Scarlets because he didn't get a chance in one position.

You remember, THAT was the argument you were trying to make but failed miserably.

You point to a player who won player of the championship by playing multiple positions over the two seasons he was with Scarlets.

So Beirne actually CONTRADICTS your argument. Well done, just another face palm moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,989 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Beirne left Leinster because he was deemed surplus to requirements, not good enough in their opinion and released.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,989 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

You point to a player who won player of the championship by playing multiple positions over the two seasons he was with Scarlets.

And then went to Munster and became the best lock in the world. You know, when he got a chance in one position.

How did you come to the conclusion that contradicted my argument?

So you're claiming Beirne at Scarlets "never got a genuine chance at one position"

    Your words, not mine.

    Strange conclusion all things considered.

Your argument is that frawley, at 27 years of age at this stage:

    1. Hasn't gotten a genuine chance at 10 for Leinster and

    2. Will flourish at 10 should he move away.

    1. Patently incorrect. Frawley was a 10 at the beginning of his career but showed pretty quickly that he struggled to organise a back line, chose incorrect passing decisions and ended up at far too many rucks for his position.

    2. Wishful thinking.

If hes not good enough at any of them hes not good enough to have been an international

Yes he is but he's also probably being paid a significantly higher wage than all of those who are largely squad fillers now with the exception of Murphy who looks pretty decent but young.

I mean hes not much of an international but matchday squad size and tournament squad size limitations will always favour versatility to some degree.

Ross Byrne is a better 10 than Frawley but you can't have him on a 6-2 bench realistically.

Do you even remember your own posts?

You point to a player who won player of the championship by playing multiple positions over the two seasons he was with Scarlet

    Then you say...

So you're claiming Beirne at Scarlets "never got a genuine chance at one position"

  • Subscribers, Paid Member Posts: 45,353 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    🤣

    Yeah.

I don't need to say anything to that.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 36,493 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

That Jordie Barrett fella never got a chance at one position. He's getting on a bit now, maybe he could nail down the 12 shirt in Taranaki.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,989 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

You are trying to be smart but don't know what you are talking about. He played full back since he was about 20 and then moved between there and centre for one season before switching full time to 12 about three or four years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭perverseostrich

True though its a sign if a guy you dont really want to play

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 36,493 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Don't make me point out that he played full back as recently as this season, because you're not in a position to argue that a player who plays in the 15 jersey is not a 15.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,989 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I'm not and don't need to argue anything. He's been playing 12 full time over the last couple of years for the Hurricanes and New Zealand.

I know that because I watch super rugby and every New Zealand international game.

He may have played a couple of games at 15 for Leinster, if it was because Keenan was out it makes sense because Barrett is one of the best in the world at the position and you've got two international centres.

How many times did he play there this year and how many times has he played for Leinster? Was it because Keenan was out?

Barrett is one of the best in the world at 12 and 15.

In the 21/22 season Barret was between 12 and 15, plenty of games at both. Before that he barely played 12 at all, if ever.

For 22/23 and 23/24 (so 2 seasons) he was pretty much exclusively 12.

For 24/25 he's been whatever Leinster have wasted him at, benching for key games, etc.

So is this the Jordie Barrett thread or Ireland team talk?

Wtf is with the Jordie/Leinster discussion? Kindly fck off somewhere else if that's your thing..

No I'm not backseat modding, just sick of reading this off topic dung.

The Ireland squad for the summer tests will be names at 2 this afternoon.

    Apparently Henderson is going.

Would much prefer to see Ahern and Baird start and Izuchukwu bench

"Captaincy is more likely to go to Craig Casey or Cian Prendergast."

They always send a few experienced lads on these tours. Henderson in the forwards and Henshaw in the backs, two lads who will gain nothing from this tour and are just there to pass on experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,367 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

    Bit of a guesswork article.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,545 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Reading it again, I'd have way more of an issue with Blade and Frawley than Henshaw/Henderson.

Those lads should be nowhere near it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,989 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Exactly, it's very good to have veterans who can mentor the younger, less experienced lads.

I see Furlong is injured again, surely Bealham will be called into the Lions squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,969 ✭✭✭ionadnapóca

None of them should be starting anyway. Its Georgia and Portugal!

I understand having a few experienced lads for touring purposes.

100% agree on Blade, but I think Frawley is there in part down to a lack of alternatives, but I also suspect he's unlikely to get much gametime / any at 10. (Or at all, even?)

I'd like to see Crowley and Prendergast share a start each, and both get 20-25 minutes off the bench each across the 2 games.
