I cannot see Hamas being any kind of stumbling block at all.

Of course, Israel would have the world believe that if Hamas is not utterly crushed, within a few days they'd regroup, have a well equipped fighting force of tens of thousands, with air support, heavy tank support, artillery, ballistic missiles, war ships, an aircraft carrier and nuclear weapons.

Hamas has been a busted flush for at least a year.

But the Hasbara would have you believe they have a lot more than a few Toyota hi luxes and pipe bombs made of water pipes.

not sure why you think that post needs to be reported tbh.

Someone just relating a conversation they'd probably not have to hear whilst enjoying a night out with their partner.

What is anti Jewish about it?

And that the conversation was clearly about current events, this would surely be an appropriate forum to be posted in.

How come you can't report posts anyhow?

    Ever the optimist.

I'm not surprised at your response either, or many others. Israel I know and freely admit have proven to be liars and anything else you care to call them. But to think Hamas is trustworthy or a bit more trustworthy even is ridiculous int the extreme. You're rhetoric is the epitome of a Hamas supporter no matter what your view really is.

It could i guess be classed as an anecdote so is against the rules. But to be honest I would have a hard time if I was trapped at a dinner party with some of the pro Israel posters here so with that I can sympathise.

Haha. Why peeps here are scratching their heads why those two nations in question can't get on together... All about ballance and being civilised on boards is as close to definite answer to the conflict as possible. Now you've entered minefield, you are either gonna be called genocide supporter or antisemitic and no one is gonna give a two fingers that you are neither...

Something I don't understand (and I don't follow everything on this thread so perhaps it's been discussed already) but if they believed that 14,000 babies were at imminent risk of starvation, why was there a UN warehouse full of tonnes of food, some of it stored there apparently for the previous 10 days??

And if it's because they couldn't get it out to the people, then why are they saying that the UN can get the food to the people?

People are either anti Israel or anti Palestinian on this thread. You can take that to mean anti all Jews or anti all Arabs if you really want (both semetic people). There isn't anyone anti both (anti semetic).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,150 ✭✭✭Suckler

People are either anti Israel or anti Palestinian on this thread

    That's woefully incorrect.

This isn't a scenario wherein criticism of one side means an automatic and unassailable support for the other. (For the majority of posters; some are more black and white).

If I criticise Israel; it does not mean I condone/support their attacks. If I criticise Hamas, it does not mean I condone Israeli military actions and/or government policy in relation to Palestinians.

I never said Hamas were trustworthy at all. And I've made my position clear throughout this thread - Hamas must be eliminated.

But reading the the Hasbara, which it appears you have clearly swallowed ("you're anti Israel so you must be a Hamas supporter"), you'd think Israel were fighting a force of tens of thousands of crack troops armed to the teeth with the latest weaponry.

All that's happening now is Israel is using the bogeyman of Hamas to ethnically cleanse innocent civilians from Gaza so they can fully annex it. If people can't see that, they're not listening to the Israelis.

What little food the UN had left did not include baby formula. The 14,000 dead babies in 48 hours was an exaggerated claim which the UN official apologised for and clarified. There are projections that estimate that 14,000 babies will die in the next 7 months.

It is important to note that if a baby/child is not given proper nutrition in their early years, the negative effects can last a lifetime.

My point was mainly about the anti-religious angle some are taking from the thread. Its about how 2 groups of people are fighting, not about their religious affiliation and hence not anti semetic (in the truest sense of that word, I.e. for Jews and Arabs worldwide)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

So people are not starving, it's only baby formula thay they're short of?? That's not what they've been saying though.

And I wonder if you'd be so understanding if the Israelis had made a similar exaggeration? Because these are the same people that were holding that food from hungry people, simultaneously not giving out the food, but also telling the British news that people were starving. Seems well dodgy to me.

The 'food' wasn't ready for human consumption - it was wheat flour basically:

"Desperate hunger drove crowds of people to overrun a World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse in central Gaza on Wednesday, reportedly leaving two dead and several injured in a chaotic scramble for food.

The incident took place at WFP’s Al-Ghafari facility in Deir Al-Balah, where limited stocks of wheat flour had been pre-positioned for use by the few bakeries which have been able to resume operations."

Hold on a sec - the Israelis are a belligerent in this war. As are Hamas.

A UN official made the claim right? So not a belligerent in this war. You can't equate a UN official being misconstrued as being in anyway akin to Israel telling lies. If people here were taking the word of Hamas (which they aren't - anything critical of Israel is not Hamas despite what you and your buddies seem to subscribe to), you would have a point.

Lastly - are you saying people aren't being starved? That is insane. Israeli politicians are saying they are doing it! Why do you ignore what they are saying themselves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,111 ✭✭✭✭A Dub in Glasgo

They will ignore it because they want to ignore it so that they can continue to support Israel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

You do know that people can use flour themselves, they don't have to wait for a bakery to bake bread - and if they couldn't open the bakeries, and people were genuinely hungry, then they needed to give out the flour so people could use it themselves. Have you never made bread? It's not difficult to do.

No, there's something seriously off with that story.

No I think they are being starved. But it seems the UN is complicit.

The UN are complicit in starving the Palestinians so in bed with Israel? Haven't heard that one before. Hard to believe it tbh, but unfortunately it's impossible to know what is going on on the ground as journalists can't get in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

Well haven't Israel been accused many times on here of being in cahoots with Hamas - of actually paying Hamas for years? So why not the UN as well? Or directly with Hamas: there were UNRWA employees who took part in the Oct 7th massacres and kidnappings, so presumably some who are in charge of warehouses are also linked to Hamas? (And thence to Israel, if you like.)

Do you have any sensible explanation for why a warehouse had TONNES of food for over a week, yet they weren't distributing it to people they themselves were saying at the same time, were on the brink of starvation?

Because I can only think of one, which is that they couldn't handle the logistics in that situation - but since they say that only they can handle the logistics, that doesn't hold up either.

None of this would even be an issue if the terrorist state was allowing humanitarian aid in. There are hundreds of UN trucks full of food at the Gaza border this evening ready to go in.

Egypt could let the aid in across its border but has instead been making money by increasing the fees and bribes that Gazans have to pay. Yet strangely nobody accuses them of starving Gazans. And Hamas didn't even attack them.

Just 30 miles away from the border with Gaza is El Arish, which has a port and an international airport. Everything Gaza needs could pass through El Arish, including people. Yet Egypt keeps the border with Gaza Strip closed. Why does nobody in Ireland ever complain about that?

I don't know much about Israel funding Hamas tbh. Read it here a few times, and Netenyahu openly said he was doing it. Makes sense in terms of splitting/ dividing the Palestinians, but also an extremely sociopathic thing to do with the lives of your own people. When those Hamas leads get hauled over the coals for what they did, Netenyahu and whoever facilitated payments to them should be too, they are partly responsible.

With regards to the UN distributing food - they can't. Israel are using starvation as a weapon of war - if the UN are going to counteract this by distributing food during a genocide, do you think they would be safe?

If you worked for the UN, and you know how people who keep Palestinians alive are systematically targeted by the IDF (doctors, nurses, aid workers, paramedics, etc), would you go in there to give out food? If you had people working for you with wives/ kids etc, would you send them in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 903 ✭✭✭Miniegg

Ditto with this -and again I am only guessing as I have no idea - but when the strongest and most well equipped army in the middle east is using starvation as a major tool in its genocide, and seems to have no problem attacking their neighbors or those who get in their way - why do you think they could be reluctant to get involved?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

    Indeed you are only guessing.

You clearly don't know much about the history of the region.

Hold on a sec. How should displaced refugees make bread from flour in Gaza? What oven should they use and what fuel for heat?

Those bakeries were running round the clock to provide bread with the flour and fuel provided by UNRWA. Most are not operational anymore thanks to bombs and fuel shortages.

Should we let them eat cake next?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,610 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Since 2007 all imports through Egyptian border requires Israeli approval. We have done this line of questioning long before. How do expect Egypt to get the aid in exactly?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭volchitsa

Well that's a bit odd, because why would they steal them then, if they can't do anything with them? Do you really need recipes? I could make bread with not much more than flour and water. And Middle Eastern flatbread is cooked on a hot surface anyway, no need for an oven.

Plus, how do you think people manage in war zones etc when supplies are literally dropped out of helicopters?

Not to mention that in the link below (from a while back) flour supplies are indeed being given out to civilians:

So they were able to cook last year, but now they've forgotten how to??

What fuel I asked? How do they heat the dough?

You should tell the starving refugees that you have solved their food problem. All 2 million of them.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭dmcdona

You must have missed all the recent reports of mass starvation in Gaza?

But you asked about 14000 babies - my post answered that specific question.

Well, as we know, the Israelis don't exaggerate then retract. They just lie until they're caught out lying - 15 medics for example.

And seeing as you state you've not been following this thread, I posted the UN retraction straight away.

Yet there are folk on here who seem to try to convince people that they know everything that goes on there.

    Chapter and verse…

    Strange that?
