I wonder will Cavan put a man on Michael Murphy especially to do a man marking job and follow him everywhere ? Maybe killian the gunner or killian Clarke??

Any word on who's available or not availablr to play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭mogue77

I don’t think James or Gearoid are available and obviously Barry Donnelly is out unfortunately , I didn’t hear anything about Conor madden or Jason.

It's over 7 weeks since James and Gearoid last played surely they most be very close to making the Sunday's match team squad.

James is doing a bit of running since last week, don’t know if he’d be fit. I would say don’t risk him when we have the chance of going further now.

Sean McEvoy also a doubt. Broken nose so it’s questionable if he can play. Hasn’t been doing contact training is my understanding.

Gearoid hasn’t been training I believe.

Hamstring depends on the nature of the tear, and then how you quickly are going to heal. I can't see Gearoid being risked if we have any aspirations beyond on the Tyrone game

Team is out. Miller and McKiernan on the bench which is great to see. Strongest 26 we've had in a while. But remains to be seen if that 26 do all make it. Definitely can't see that 15 starting

very interesting subs bench, but you are right I think that there will be changes to the starting team, I thought Gearoid was a bit away yet.

Maybe I’m just forgetting but when was the last time Ryan O’Neill started a game? Seems like some time ago.

Hope Galligan has a plan to stop Langan, Gallan and Murphy.

Tyrone in Omagh I thought he started? He definitely started against westmeath in the league.

I'd put Crowe on Langan, Carolan on Gallen, Gunner on Murphy

I heard Dick Clerkin on the Irish Independent football podcast basically saying that McGuinness has a plan and possibly didn't want to show his hand against Tyrone and that Cavan are the perfect opponent for them to get back to winning ways and that they'll be in the quarter final and the Tyrone game will be forgotten.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Ah poor old Dick is still bitter over his father’s treatment when it comes to Cavan. Why would McGuinness not want to show his hand against Tyrone but be willing to show it a week later against Cavan!?

Clerkin making about as much sense as he did when he picked Gearoid as man of the match over Martin Reilly when Cavan played Monaghan in 2019 and later had to retract it.

I presume Dick is thinking that Donegal will just have to turn up to beat Cavan and won't have to show their hand either. Any team that is looking to win an all ireland and is giving Tyrone momentum are foolish and there is no way big Jim does not want to top the group and go straight to Quarters and get a week off which is unlikely now.

On the game that's a strong Cavan Squad hopefully we don't do what we have done in past and follow a good performance with a flat one.

In the same podcast ,Pat Spillane gave an analysis of Donegal which was bang on the money in fairness to him. He said they are are not scoring goals and finishing games very poorly and he provided examples of same. It's worth a listen.

Inot sure how many of those lads on the bench would be fit to start or even play but it will keep McGuinness thinking. If they were all fit and we bring the intensity which is obviously crucial we could have a good chance.

Well that sounds like bs from Clerkin after McGuinness was so raging he kept them back for an hours in the dressing room in Ballybofey reading them the riot act. He absolutely cares about Tyrone and his home record

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Looks like Tyrone are going to lose to Mayo. Any potential comeback ruined by that Morgan error.

Things would have been a lot easier for us if Tyrone had won.

Absolutely. Lazy punditry whereas Spillane was on point. Could do with him back on the Sunday game.

Where does this leave us? I understand it that we will have Mayo on head to head so once they don't beat Donegal we would be ok.

Nothing ever comes easy for us.

Tyrone finding new ways of batin Cavan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,389 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Cavan now has to get something from the Donegal game tomorrow. At least a point or they are in trouble because they never seem to trouble Tyrone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

If Mayo were to beat Donegal we are in trouble, otherwise I think we’re still okay. The group will probably have 4 teams on 2 points after today.

Once Donegal win next week, no matter what our result, we’ve Mayo on the head to head and there’d only be us and them on 2 points if we lost (which we most likely will as it’s Tyrone).

I really thought Tyrone were going to come back today when Morgan kicked the two pointer and they had it back to one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 466 ✭✭mylestheslasher

I knew full well Mayo would win that game. What's interesting is that 4 teams who played last weekend, 3 lost and 1 drew this weekend. So recovery time seems to be having an effect. So let's hope the same happens Donegal today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 Custard_Cream

Thanks - That's what I was thinking. Essentially, Tyrone beating Donegal last week ended up working out well for us. If they hadn't, us Tyrone and Mayo could have finished up on 2 each with score difference coming into play.

I can't see a Jim McGuiness team losing two games in the group so I would still have us in the driving seat for a preliminary quarter final .
