No SIM issues in Dundrum. Took my pixel 3a for 16 and then the 200 off no problem.

This has always been the way with VF over the years. Go back through any of the VF bargain threads and you will see there is no consistency with the stores with regard to requirement to purchase a SIM. Same goes when ordering online - it can be completely hit and miss.

I had to pay just under €20 for a sim and topup that I didnt need. But considering I was saving €200 off the price, which also was good to begin with, Im not complaining. 9a is on 'sale' at the Google store for €499 at the moment.

Most of the staff are spotty teenagers, they probably get little to no training, it's no wonder the place is an inconsistent customer experience.

Had an almost identical experience today on the other side of the country. I walked out for the same reason as well!

That's good news, wasn't going to try since the website rejected it also. Have the same Pixel 3a since end Nov 2019 when Vodafone had it on sale for €180 and it's been bullet proof but the battery is gone to pot especially in the past few weeks and requires multiple charges per day despite running in Extreme Battery Saver, normal Battery Saver doesn't cut it anymore.

Will have to try my luck on the Vodafone spin of fortune.

Might be worth saying that you were living in Australia and have no number here because you're only back and you just want a payg sim if they insist on having to buy 1.

I had similar treatment in Drogheda, West St. Additionally, I checked my eligibility to appeasement for my 7a and was told that it did not qualify. When I asked the Drogheda store for the trade in value against the 9a, they said that the 7a had been recalled and there was no trade in value.

They were still offering the 200e but no trade in. Across the road is CEX and they offered 140e for my 7a. VF also mentioned another 100 if I ported my Gomo number over to them. I am having a few hours to wrap my head araound the whole thing. I will report back. I wasn't very convinced about the extra 100e for porting.

Tried ringing Blackrock store but couldn't get an answer but the website tested and confirmed my trust Redmi Note 9 is valid for €13 plus 200 trade in.

Called in, agent inspected the phone then announced the IMEI number was rejected. Got offered a load of more expensive ways to get the 9a!

I called up the website and showed it was accepted there. No joy. Got the manager involved when I asked for a written position but I left with a note as an option to pursue a complaint for bait and switch tactics.

Went home and tried to avail of the offer online but the verify text to my (non-VF) mobile repeatedly fails to arrive. Catch 22.

    Got the 9a earlier.

    It's an awful experience.

Firstly I was directed to the 9, which is at least €200 more expensive.

    Then all the upsells come.

Then when I mention I have an O2 number, the lies come about the phone being locked and won't work on current sim card. This was said a couple of times.

Traded in a 4a and it came up as a pixel 3a on their system, I couldn't be bothered to question them.

Got about €20 for that phone, was told I could only get the phone with the sim.

Came out and put my old SIM card in and all good now.

About €203 for the 9a, worth it if you're prepared to deal with their lies and shi1t service in store.

People need to read the thread. Is been said multiple times the website check means nothing in store.

Just been in the store they wouldn't take my 8a as a trade - device not supported apparently. Anyone else get that

Does condition matter? I've an old 3a with screen burn even €1 plus trade in bonus would do

@Higgs! tried in post #220 on the previous page and it was refused, not sure if they got it sorted.

Was in Dublin city centre earlier for first time in ages and called into Vodafone store on Grafton St to try trade in my Pixel 3a. They only had one pink 9a on reserve for another customer having sold 8 the past couple of days. Not due any more stock for a week by which time the trade in offer will have expired I was told.

More sh1te talk from staff who don't know the offer. Check post #179, the offer ends on 30th June.

If the screen is functional and the buttons work then it should be fine, depending on the IMEI ofc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭eoinf

do they accept battered up phones with cracks.

I have an old samsung S10 in the drawer, online saying 20 euro but there is a crack on the "functioning" screen

I traded in my pixel 4a. Your phone needs to be working with a SIM card and access to data as the stores assistant will download an app onto the phone that does a 10 point check. Camera works front/back, volume up/down, on/off, screen touch check where they run their finger around the screen which is split into like 40 small squares and checks that all squares can be colored in. Fairly straightforward forward. Id imagine a crack screen would be fine as long as the screen touch works

I had no SIM in mine and asked for the store WiFi details.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,287 ✭✭✭eoinf

    Thanks for the update.

Turns out my S10 is fucked, unfortunately they seem to have removed the pixel 3a from the offer, I've 2 of them lieing about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,370 ✭✭✭Esse85

I brought in my pixel 4a, yet on the receipt I got, it says I traded in a 3a.

Best thing to do is go in store and check because there's no consistency or standardisation across the stores as we've seen in this thread.

And I'd try a number of different locations too if you can.

I was in Vodafone in Drogheda and they told me that Pixels 4, 6, 8 and 8 pro are accepted but 8a and 7's are not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,238 ✭✭✭Sappy404

I went in with an IMEI number and no phone and he was able to check, so it would be an idea to call ahead rather than visit shop to shop if in doubt.

Went into Galway store on Shop Street..

Said I was a Vodafone customer and I wanted to buy a Pixel 9A as a spare

    Grand…Guy brought down a phone…

Asked me my Vodafone number…told him I was a Vodafone Broadband Customer lol

Told me Pixel 9A was locked to Vodafone… what a liar!

I told him I will get a PAYG vodafone number so..

Next thing the store manager is over…looking over his shoulder…

Oh there's an error your Nokia is showing an error our system

I showed him the vodafone website showing my Nokia having a 20 Euro Trade in Value…

Oh I will have to get onto the regional manager he says!

Told me will call me back in an hour…

So will see do they call me back by 13:30!

I got that and all the other fake info. Phone is locked, you must port your number and 50e extra discount if you were existing customer. So went to Swords, then Omni and finally Blanchestown. All accepted the 7a but only Blanchestown had a 9a. Did the deal and all good. So it is just stores like Drogheda. The arrogance of the male staff was disgraceful and not just with customers.

For anyone with a Pixel 7a the problem is with swollen batteries causing low battery performance and loose casing. However if you are lucky enough to have one like that you should check here. https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/16043453?hl=en. If your phone batch was affected, even if its not faulty, you get appeasement from Google of 400e. You also keep the phone and there is no inspection of your phone. My 7a did not qualify
