How much is peanuts? He's probably still on 70 or 80k I'd imagine-not life changing but better than having to go into a civilian job at the bottom of the ladder.

It would be pretty crap if they were only discussing contract options now.My hunch is he's gone.

The likelihood is they'd have only offered a one year deal with limited game time.

I'm sure his brother and JOD probably know their time in a Munster Jersey is coming to an end with the one year deals they got.

Limerick base moreso than Limerick fans, myself and many others from around Limerick, Clare, Kerry, Tip, even as far as Charleville and Mallow are annoyed at having the PUC match included on what used to be the Thomond season ticket

Munster Travelling Squad for South Africa

A 32-player Munster squad will travel to South Africa while the matchday 23 will be confirmed on Friday afternoon.

On the injury front, Jack Crowley, Diarmuid Barron and Niall Scannell have all been passed fit and are available for selection. Jeremy Loughman also returns and could be in line for his first appearance since he suffered a hamstring injury in last month’s win over La Rochelle.

Edwin Edogbo made a successful return to action earlier this month for Munster ‘A’ against Connacht Eagles and his return will continue to be managed as he recovers from a long-term injury.

Continuing To Rehab: Oli Jager (head), Ethan Coughlan (hamstring), Billy Burns (shoulder), Shane Daly (hamstring), Roman Salanoa (knee).

No mention of POM having his hand/wrist in some sort of support but he's on the touring party anyway so must be ok to play.

Just catching up on that media release again - Loughman travels, that's some good news to have him available.

Pretty good injury profile - touch wood - for this stage of the season. We'll need them all to stay fit to have any chance, but I think we'll fire a few shots against the Sharks at the weekend at least. They're pretty formidable on paper tho, and seem to have gotten their act together this season.

Looking at that squad, our team will probably be something like this I'd say:
    FR: Milne, L Barron, Archer
    SR: Beirne, Kleyn
    BR: O'Mahony, Coombes, Hodnett
    HB: Casey, Crowley
    CE: Nankivell, Farrell
    B3: Kilgallen, Abrahams, Nash.
Bench: D Barron, Loughman, Ryan, Wycherley, Ahern, Murray, O'Brien, Kendellen.

While Abraham's going forward is formidable, his position and defense as last man is questionable. Id nearly have Haley starting and Abraham's on against some tired heavy weights. But i suspect you are on the button with the team

You'll forgive me if myself and a few other season ticket holders in west cork have limited sympathy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,416 ✭✭✭letowski

Good squad, would defeinetly give us a chance of pulling off a result. Would be concerned about the Sharks scrum though against the likes of Nche, Mbonambi, Koch, etc. Once again we'll asking Archer to play his best rugby in South Africa, but good that Loughman is back. Hopefully everything is OK with Oli Jager, he's been out with a concussion injury since the Bulls game, over a month ago.

I wasn't looking for sympathy, but if there's a drop off now in season tickets and crowds in Thomond and the associated revenue then that's not a good thing!

There were eyebrows raised when the Musgrave ticket got the 3 Thomond games added...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭perverseostrich

Yes there will always be room for cork vs limerick drama

Eithers an hour down the road I doubt it causes a significant drop

I’d be interested in what the likes of Scannell are on. You say 70-80 but I would honestly not be surprised if it was 140-50 for a solid squad player and a few euro more for his brother.

I would think a lot of the guys signing first proper pro contract are getting 80-100.

    Anyone have more insight ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 497 ✭✭sleepyman

Maybe I've underestimated his salary although 80-100k sounds alot for a first pro contract.I'd imagine it's lower.

I wonder is the salary the same across the board or do players with a perceived higher ceiling get more? You'd imagine the Edwin Edogbos of this world are highly valued for instance.

There's was no drama for years and years until somebody gave Donal Lenihan a platform with his "this game should be in Cork" BS.

To be fair it's closer to 2 hours down the road (or up the road depending on your direction of travel) add another hour if there's a crash along the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,856 ✭✭✭snotboogie

Donal Lenihan doesn't have the power to whip up mass discontent that doesn't exist. His original interview where he brought this up on Second Captains (back in 2017?) he talked about multiple people in Cork bringing it up to him. I also don't know how it's "BS" when 18 of the 29 home grown players in the senior squad come from Cork compared to 4 from Limerick. Not sure how anyone could look at those numbers and call more games being played in Cork BS?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,928 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

This is exactly it. Like Donal, you see cork and Limerick and Waterford etc players, all the vast majority of us see is Munster players. There is no other professional club in the world, to my knowledge, that has constant petty infighting like this.

I can't remember the last time there were calls to move Leinster games out of Dublin, Ulster out of Belfast or Connacht out of Galway etc.

To be clear… I also accept that there's no other country in the developed world without a motorway between its second and 3rd largest cities and it's a huge pain in the arse travelling it for games

I would imagine that most supporters are far more concerned about the distance that they have to travel in order to support their team. And for at least 50% of them, Cork is probably the better option.

Mike Adamson is the ref for Saturday.

I can't get over the amount of fuss over one group game being moved to Cork.

The group games for the Champions Cup has been devalued due to on group win being enough to get a team to last 16. The competition really doesn't begin until the last 16.

Thomond Park has minimum of 8 games and one exhibition game. This could increase with Urc and Champions cup knockout games.

I highly doubt that 50% of Munsters support base would find cork the better option. You only need to look at the attendance for Musgrave Park games to see that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭timothydec77

All those teams mentioned had obviously only one logical choice.

Munster was different. While at the time of the start of professionalism Limerick had a bigger Rugby culture than Cork. It was therefore decided to develop Thomond Park. To leave a major city in the Island without professional Rugby games would have been irresponsible that's why Munster play games in Cork.

As to the travelling most of us from outside Limerick know the problems with travel. In a game a few years I was 3 hours on a bus coming back from Limerick to Cork.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,228 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

The fuss is mainly coming from one poster. Most peoples issue was getting a ticket to a game in Cork added to their Thomond Park season ticket without any prior notice rather than the game being in Cork. None of my group of 8 season ticket holders were happy with that decision, but we'll still be going to to PuC.

I also only know 1 person who didn't renew their season ticket and that was down to personal circumstances rather than the game in Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,928 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

It's one group game this coming season, it could be 2 the season after. Who's to say it won't be every game by 2030?

Will the URC/CC knockouts definitely be in Thomond if we get there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭timothydec77

I remember a few years ago the stats were 1/3 Limerick 1/3 Cork 1/3 outside either Limerick or Cork.

As for attendances in Cork. The under 20 and lower rank Urc get minimum 8k at gate. While 2 games in Parc Ui Chaoimh sold out.

Just checked on ticketmaster I can buy a ticket for Munster v Argentina 15 for 3 at half way line and tickets in every part of ground.

I remember a few years ago the stats were 1/3 Limerick 1/3 Cork 1/3 outside either Limerick or Cork.

So to appease the 1/3rd of supporters not from cork or Limerick should we also have a game in Kerry or Tipperary every year? Where would you draw the line?

8k in Musgrave is lovely and intimate and always a great atmosphere. Official figures put the non-interpro games at over 11k in Thomond mind

Yes strange how Argentina aren't as much of a draw as South Africa or NZ… Well… Actually it's not really strange at all

3 years ago the thought of anything other than a European Semi final or the odd friendly in PUC was rubbished, I would 100% agree with you back then. Also, brave is a good word to use

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 26,568 ✭✭✭✭phog

There is no fuss, one poster using stats with no data behind them just to be right does not reflect a fan base.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,928 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

I suspect we won't know what way the entire fan base feel about it until the end of the season, when the financial and attendance data comes out. I fully accept that what I am saying doesn't reflect the full fan base but I guarantee it is also not reflecting the feelings of just one poster

I am in a group of 10 season ticket holders, 2 of us have decided to renew but they always had dual-venue tickets so the PUC game was much less of an issue

2017 was the last year we didn't all have season tickets

They can still buy associate membership and go to games they wish to go in Thomond.

8 competitive games and 1 exhibition game is a decent amount of games to go to.
