In truth and at this point the Republican Party is nothing more than a bunch of sadistic, sycophantic, corrupt wasters and grifters out to enrich themselves and their friends at the expense of the rest of society. It only got this far because of factors like the enshittification of the media sphere along with recommender systems social media to funnel people into echo chambers and to fuel discord so they fight one another and get riled up into taking feelings and beliefs over facts and not focusing on the real corrupt degenerates that have wormed their way into power. You can also add the piss poor education system that failed people in the US as well that has far too many at an extremely substandard level of intelligence.

The other factor of course is Citizens Fúcking United, the most regressive decision by the US supreme court that effectively legalised pay to win politics in the US. Trump of course is an opportunist who jumped on the train for his own benefit and the sooner he shuffles of this mortal coil the better the rest of the world will be for his absence but the danger of course is and always has been the absolute corrupt filth he dragged into power with him expecially the likes of the Heritage Foundation. People like them are absolutely unfit to have any influence or power and their corrupt idelogies ultimately weaken and fracture societies. These will be the people that need to be dealt with long after the Orange Bollocks has checked out of this existence.

Combining the open manipulation of the stock market, the tax cuts for the rich, the cutting of benefits for the middle and lower classes and the ultimate failure of his plan to solve the Ukraine issue (see below), it is absolutely staggering that despite all of this plain to see for all that this was coming, America still voted for this...

No sympathy for them at all not even a little bit and certainly not staggering knowing Americans. They knew what he was and what he was capable of and still decided he was the better option.

Not a man that does subtlety well I'd imagine.

And this is why you don't capitulate to someone who announces "recommendations" on social media of economic policies which could hugely affect global trade, or go begging and pleading to them not to damage your economy and kowtowing to the majority of their demands.

And funnily enough, the more Trump announces these things to look like a tough dealmaker who will throw the might of the USA's economy at his "opponents", the weaker he makes himself look because he'll inevitably start rowing back.

It's like we've all said; the tariff war affects every countries trade just with the USA, but the USA are affected by tariffs from every country.

Trump sounds like a complete idiot when he speaks about most subjects, but I think his lack of anything resembling a reasoned or informed thought is probably most obvious when he babbles on about Ukraine. He sounds like a naive incompetent pawn in that post, totally divorced from the reality of what has been happening since the start of the war. So does he think that Putin has only started targeting civilians recently? What an absolute embarrassment to his country.

Trump's Art of the Deal has always been one of the big bluster. When someone sued him, he would countersue on frivolous grounds for 10 times as much and his opponents often settled. With North Korea, he threatened obliteration. He threatened 125% tariffs on China knowing that it would be economic suicide for both the US and China but hoped that China would settle for higher tariffs than were in place previously. Similarly with the 50% tariffs on the EU. Nixon wanted Vietnam to think he was a madman who was about to use nuclear bombs. The EU, Canada, Mexico, India, UK etc. need to stand up to Trump's bully boy tactics.

A while back I posted that I thought Trump's suspected financial dependence on Putin was going to drive him to support Russia over Ukraine, and that definitely seemed to be borne out early in his presidency.

Since then, however, Trump has grifted his way to significant chunks of cash, and has cemented his grasp on the US legal system.

I speculate that it's now possible that Trump feels far less beholden to Putin than he did a year ago, and so might be more relaxed about screwing Putin over, especially if he sees Putin looking weak. Trump's flip-flopping on Ukraine suggests he's a long way from abandoning Putin completely, but it does suggest he's not as scared of him as he used to be.

It's weird to think that Trump's massively corrupt accumulation of wealth recently could potentially be a good thing for Ukraine.

It helps that Russia has embarrassed itself on the world stage. I doubt many people are worried about Russian armour piling through the Fulda Gap any time soon.
