No surprise Kerry beat Cork yet again in a different grade.

One last word for the lord mayor of Galway have a look at that!😀 Of course it was just pre match banter by the late John Mulholland, but we barely beat Antrim and Galway trashed Kilkenny in their semi final. The Galway crowd probably thought it was just a case of showing up to collect the cup.🤣 In fairness Galway proved what a fine team they were afterwards. They would have won the three in a row in 1989 if it wasn't for Tony Keady getting suspended.

The years from 1987 to 1995 when we ruled Munster with an iron fist really were an anomaly sadly. We only had a return of two all Irelands to show for it though, although we were robbed in 1988 against Meath and we were unlucky against Derry in 1993 as well. That was Derrys one and only senior all Ireland in their history though so i couldn't begrudge them it too much.

Here's the football team named for the Meath game later on.

Best of luck to both the hurlers and footballers this weekend. Up Cork!

Larry trained me for 2 years in 94/95.

When I was going to NY for the summer in 96 I gave him a call; gave me a contact who put me up and helped with work. We've been good friends since and through him I'd occasionally meet Larry.

Great character about as intense as it gets when it comes to football.

When I played in 96 in NY I played with another Castlehaven; wild beast of a man but some footballer called Dave Reagan. Beer and women kept him from the great Cork team, Larry had huge regard for him but couldn't understand his wiring. Football was 1,2 & 3 with Larry.

He's done some great podcasts over the years, one in particular about when he travelled home with the Donegal club and bet all but one of the county teams they played.

Great to see him smiling, he'd love be in amongst GAA crew like that.

The footballers making life hard for themselves as per usual! We have no choice but to beat Kerry to get out of the group now, and it would be foolish in the extreme to take Roscommon for granted as well.

1-13 v 0-12 loss. Another defeat. Poor again.

We really have been going around in circles as a football county in the years post 2012. We get the odd decent championship win but we never seem to build on it.

One step forward and two steps back yet again with Cork football

As i've stated many times i would be hugely in favour of an outside manager when John Cleary goes. Larry Tompkins was from Kildare but Larry is an honorary Cork man at this stage! We badly need some outside ideas. I hated him as a player but someone like Ger Brennan would be great as Cork manager.

I'm calling it as it is now, bias or no bias but Cleary needs to be shafted now, not good enough too nice and doesn't have it. He's got his term needs to be moved on now. Cork football is a mess in every grade. They are so Frustrating to watch.

I thought we were making progress at the end of 2023 after back to back last eight appearances, but we've gone backwards since sadly. John Cleary should've got the job about a decade ago but yes change is needed unless the team can turn this situation around.

Hmm Cork football has lost a lot of potential players from underage to hurling. Are the county board doing enough to improve our structures in regards to developing and producing players of senior intercounty standard? Do they even care enough or are the county board only focusing their attention on the hurling?

Nice for the Camogie players to get a training session off Limerick today.

A serious whalloping handed out, 6-25 v 0-05 doesn't really do any good for either team to be fair.

Something radically wrong with Cork Football!! How long have we been saying that?? Since Colin Corkery was the only one who could score a point 30 years ago!! Yep 30 years!!

Where is their passion?? They are shameful tbh and devoid of what Cork hurling can do. Even when the hurlers lose they leave nothing behind them!!

As bad as the footballers can be at times the most recent Cork senior all Ireland win was in football! I fully expect the hurlers to be breathing fire against Waterford tomorrow.

We need to get a manager outside the county now and for all. We are going no where otherwise. Shocking.

    Bit nervous about tomorrow.

If we play to our A game then we will win but ya worry about the mindset after last week.

Plus Waterford have nothing to lose.

I think Larry trained the Waterford u21 footballers for a bit back in the 90's.

Edit: From reading your post again you were obviously on that panel. At least Waterford make an effort at football unlike the Kilkenny crowd!🤣

I was thinking the same thing today when I was following the scores online. Awful shooting seems to be our trademark. Same as the minor game against Kerry where the Cork Minor manager said this after all the awful shots against Kerry

“We probably missed more this evening than we ever did so far this year. As regards being cross with them, that wouldn’t even enter my head. I love meeting them and looking forward to the next training session.”

When I read ihis today I wanted him replaced! He dosn't seem too bothered that we missed loads. I'm not saying to go mental with young fellas but that shooting is no where near the standard required and they should be made to know this.

I see Steven Sherlock got 4 two pointers for his club today but wasn't he a fella who said forget it when he wasn't being given game time? I know it was just club but still.

I'm looking forward to tomorrows game though and I expect us to be on fire from the off. I hope we perform straight away and get the win. There should be no chance of an ambush or upset. We should be ready as they have nothing to lose alright. Its a game to put everything right after last week and we should be taking our scores and keeping them at arms length. If we stutter and fail to get going then it will be a long day as Waterford are able to take afvantage definitely. But if we perform and get into our stride then we could pull away in the second half. I think this will happen but we need to make it happen. The home advantage is crucial as if you cannot get going with a packed house behind you then you deserve to be knocked out!!
