if i saw a driver on a motorway doing 120km/h+ and i somehow knew they'd been doing that for nine hours or more, i'd give them a wide berth.

Have you just assumed that they're taking no breaks?

in fairness I agree with your sentiment about limiters, but you’re being a bit silly now, how could they know that?

How could you even know how long someone’s been driving unless you knew- cmon

Just as silly as somehow knowing they've been driving for nine hours or more. I doubt it's even possible without a cast iron bladder or a catheter. Like what even is the point?

I’d agree this whole thing is getting stupid. Why it needs be we’re inventing mad scenarios when it really isn’t a complicated issue- good drivers shouldn’t be subject to limitations due to bad drivers.

Maybe the 'if I somehow knew' didn't signify strongly enough that I was talking about a hypothetical situation.

    And acknowledged as such:

Okay, I'll phrase it differently. I don't think someone who has driven 1000km in one day will be driving nearly as well at the end of that stint as they would at the start.

I had thought that meaning was obvious from what I said, but hey ho.

Well having done that kind of drive regularly, I'd definitely say I was a bit tired at the end. But not to the point that my driving was incapacitated to any extent.

But then I take frequent breaks and make sure I'm well fed and hydrated.

I don’t know why you’re saying it at all considering it has nothing to do with either the thread topic or even the tangent it’s been brought on?

Like how did we go from learners driving unaccompanied (thread topic) to speed limiters (tangent) to whether or not someone would be impaired after driving 1000km in a day?

the notion of controlling speed and L drivers being limited was mentioned in the article linked in the very first post. that devolved into a discussion about the practicalities of such limiters. threads evolve; you seriously think threads should be strictly maintained within the parameters of the opening post? that'd be dull.

Meanwhile in the countryside we're smack bang in the middle of silage season and while us fully licensed car drivers are supposed to stick to a blanket 60kph speed limit on local roads young lads on a provisional license can unaccompanied hop on a tractor towing up to 20 ton on these so called dangerous roads. Was behind one such tractor this evening travelling at over 50kph and bouncing all over the road. I wonder are there stats to show which is more dangerous to VRUs, a car driven by a fully licenced driver bireaking this arbitrary speed limit, travelling at say 70kph, or a fully laden tractor and trailer driven at 50+ kph by an unaccompanied L driver. The roads and the rotr applicable are full of glaring inconsistencies and downright hypocrisy
