the conspiracy theory being discussed here

You'd want to have had your head in the sand for the last 18 months to not have seen the unwavering support Israel received in that time.

I'd love to say the tide is turning, and there is some slight evidence of that this week (German President asked Nethanyahu to justify the conflict) but I wouldn't take Trumps actions as any kind of long term shift. I was listening to a political podcast yesterday and someone on it suggested that maybe what Trump is doing is just stepping back so Netanyahu can continue to inflict damage without the image of US approval.

Trump is just making money. Plain and simple. Cares not one jot for any lives.

He's got weaponry to sell, and the Saudis have the money to spend. So both sides are happy.

But I wonder what the future will hold when he is selling vast amounts of US weaponry to a nation which has a very shady history, and who indeed seem to be up to their necks in involvement in 9/11

9/11 made Trump Tower the tallest building in New York though.

    the Israeli response was predictable:

    Haaretz:

French President Emmanuel Macron said during an interview on TF1 television on Tuesday evening that PM Netanyahu's policy in Gaza was "shameful" and that European countries should consider increasing sanctions.

Netanyahu's office replied that Macron had "once
again chosen to stand with a murderous Islamist terrorist organization and echo its false propaganda, while accusing Israel of blood libel."

Yes. Having issues posting here today and that comment was sliced./ After disappearing for a while 🙄

Meant to include Macron's statement and Netanyahu's response but the comment box and edit was completely borked !

    Is this a CT too I wonder ? ;)

Anyone who criticizes the starvation and killing of Gazans now is most definitely a Hamas supporter / an Islamist / anti Semite , even people like Macron .

The Israeli government ( not Israelis because I don't believe ALL Israelis think this way ) can behave lije this because they are being propped up by an increasingly nuts US regime .

The heads of state in Europe and elsewhere need to stop seeing Israel through the lens of guilt post WW2 , and see them for what they are now ..a country being governed by a murderous and very vengeful group of people , who think they are justified acting in the same genocidal way as the terrorist group they are fighting

There will be no good end here to this .

In Israeli eyes, you're either 100% for them, or 100% against them.

They have no middle ground where normal folk can think that bombing kids, and starving the ones who are left alive, is wrong. If you think it's terrible, you're a terrorist sympathiser!

But as I keep saying, the biggest shame is on the countries backing up this slaughter. Primarily US and Britain, cos there's money to be made.

History will not look ok them favourably

Spot on; his aims are nothing to do with diplomacy and/or International relations.

The US President and his inner circle are using his time in office to enrich themselves and their families.

He is crassly hawking his wares to those he knows are willing to pay for influence and preference.

This ME tour is making him look like a fancy car salesman.

Except he is making billions selling death and destruction.

There was but on a tiny level. Keep the dream alive but stunts like October 7th won't help.

Imagine if those 1916 heroes went to London and systematically murdered as many Brits as possible. Wouldn't have worked out too well.

They did the bidding of their savage Iranian masters. Only Israeli military should have been killed or captured. Sure they even captured an Irish child and kept her hostage long after that was discovered. Vermin. And let's not get into the young Irish peace keeper their buddies on the other side killed.

Like I said there's a way to survive these situations and when you're completely out gunned and your biggest allies are terrorist dictatorships like Iran aggression won't be the answer.

Important to remember the Hannibal Directive issued multiple times that day. The IDF killed many Israelis fleeing and hiding - possibly into the hundreds.

And Hamas murdered Palestinians working on the Kibbutzim too.

You might also recall Israel attacking UNFIL troops and especially Irish positions when they invaded Lebanon. Luckily, no Irish troops were murdered.

Hamas and Israel are as bad as each other.

Given the history of Jewish persecution and in particular the holocaust in WW2. To be accused of antisemitism in western countries strikes fear in people. To an extent it has been weaponised by the Israeli state and the Zionist lobby in America.

Many people simply shy away from speaking out against Israel with regards to Gaza and the plight of the Palestinians.

That must be Nigel with the brie...

America has fallen out with just about every country in the world at some stage, even allies. Not Israel though, they are the only country they stand behind 100% no questions asked, even though Israel have screwed them over numerous times.

Oh no doubt. Terrorists fighting terrorists here. The loser as always the peaceful civilians on both sides but there's no doubt one side is suffering far more due to the huge disparity in the militaries.

Totally agree and I'd add that Israel has abandoned the hostages for a year now. Their last list of "war objectives" issued a couple of weeks back has the release of hostages in sixth place.

Hamas, as abhorrent as they are, have offered to release all the hostage on multiple occasions since March. Israel has refused all offers.

And it is Israel that reneged on the cease- fire that was in place. The reason? The Govt had a budget to sign off but didn't have numbers in the Knesset. So Netanyahu (alleged war criminal #1) brought back in Ben-Gvir who had resigned because Israel wasn't Genociding enough. The quid pro quo? Gvir wanted Israel to recommence the war.

Ben-Gvir and Smotrich (who used the words "concentrating Palestinians in Gaza) are odious individuals.

I wonder if Trump Tower and resort Levant will be open in a few years , with Gaza turned into golf links . With Mediterranean beach front .

Imagine that not long ago that could have been a joke that you'd laugh off easily. Now…….

Make no mistake, Gaza will never be back in the hands of Palestinians.

That is part of Israel from here on in.

That weapon has become severely blunted, however, through years of misuse. Notice how it has been used less and less in recent months against countries and people that are critical of Israel. Instead they've pivoted to bullshit about spreading "HAMAS propaganda" instead.

Israel is essential to US involvement in any future middle east endeavours that they may want to engage in, whether that involves conflict over oil or dominance. That's why they keep them sweet.

Well made points there. I don’t support what Hamas did on Oct 7 ( or any other attacks on civilians) but it’s kinda hard to listen to lectures from the likes of he US and the UK as to who are terrorists and who aren’t. Hamas would not exist without the conditions imposed for many years by Israel. I don’t see how anyone can dispute that.

It hasn't always been like that between America and Israel. Have you not heard of the Jonathan Pollard spy scandal?

Have seen this journalist (Afghani working for Norwegian broadcaster) a couple of times over the last few months, but this interview in particular is very impressive.

It's definitely not something we've seen so much in western media and not at all on US media, that's for sure.

I'm only 10 minutes in and already the Israeli guy has shown that he cannot answer any question he's asked with a factual response. He has to resort to lies and slander, as always.

It's interesting because it is so rare official Israeli personnel find themselves in such a position where they are directly challenged in such a calm way.

Mehdi Hassan is one other journalist who would interview in such a manner, but he doesn't generally get to challenge influential people in this way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,834 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Directly challenged and completely unable to answer a straight forward question with a straight forward reply. Typical of these bastards, they cannot respond with anything approaching honesty or integrity. They are arrogant in the extreme and will stoop to the lowest levels every time.

There's another interview by the same journalist with David Mencer and the same tactics from the interviewee are employed. He gets shifty and starts whinging about nonsense. This lot are always the same. They cannot answer anything that's put to them clearly, so they get antsy and go on the attack instead. Because they know that what they are supporting, and lying about, is abhorrent.

Of all the scandals Gary lineker weathered over the years…

It only takes one comment on Israel to end your career instantly.

Was he not retiring anyway? I think he has made comments on Israel previously, many times, and his career wasn't ended instantly because of them. He went too far by reposting a comment that compared zionists to rats. He even acknowledged himself that the comment was out of line, although he claims not to have known about the protraying jews as rats trope that the nazis loved to use. Must have been living under a rock his whole life but ok.

Seems like he caused the bbc one headache after another by not being able to keep quiet about politics, despite being a sports presenter for a publicly funded broadcaster that is not supposed to take any position on political affairs
