Wheels were never a real issue. Rapid gating was a much bigger, real issue. I think originally Toyota was also keeping a very large buffer in reserve so that it could meet its battery warranty. Which meant very limited range. Have they relinquished a bit of that buffer since they first released?

I was trying to cut through the online bullshit before buying one, so I reached out to owners of the car. Everything I got back was positive.

If you only listened to the online reviews, you would think it's a total dog, it isn't, and I traded in a Tesla Model 3 for it.

Toyota had teething problems with too large a buffer and slow dc charging. They've since added a battery heater, released some of the buffer, added a heat pump and made other little tweaks that all together make it a good car.

It will do a dc charge from 10-80% in about 30 minutes, which is fine. There's faster out there for sure and a method of preconditioning would be preferable too.

Efficiency is good, I'm averaging 16.2 kwh/100km since I picked it up in February. I did 180km last week, no motorway and it showed 12.8 or something like that. In this warmer weather my total average is 13.4kwh/100km. My M3 averaged 15.1 on 19's over the 2 years of ownership, but the M3 cheats slightly in that it doesn't count the usage at a standstill, the bZ does.

Motorway at 9 degrees and dry, I was able to get 320 kms from the 64kwh battery, If I had kept driving on the drive last week, It would've done 500 kms.

It's comfortable, well equipped and comes with a 10 year warranty if you service it with Toyota every year. First 3 services are free, breakdown cover for 3 years and a great dealer network. The best thing about it is the limo like space in the back, it's great for the family.

Infotainment isn't the best, but I use AA or carplay, hands free kit isn't very clear either, I find it difficult to talk for too long on it.

I wish it was Awd or Rwd as you get a bit of torque steer which is unpleasant when you put your foot down, it's not that type of car, but still.

I got a good deal on mine too, 38k when this model was 52k only a couple of years ago😲. I wouldn't have paid the 43k they retail at now, maybe for the facelift when it appears.

Ya, the CHR is mad money in comparison. The new CHR electric look nice though, pricing will be interesting.

Agreed, first impressions and all that.

I'm partial to an estate, not sure what to make of that though. Good to see Toyota finally joining the party.

A safe buy is pretty much the foundation stone of Toyota's business.
